I'm not sure crush is the right term, but it was enough. Especially with Hudson on the mound :) Best anyone's done against Strasburg so far, I believe.

Plus, my girlfriend is from the DC area... had fun reminding her of tonight's game on the phone this evening :D

Still StrausStrike didn't do too badly. 7 Strikeouts, and had it scoreless throughout 7 innings.

No, he didn't do badly at all... until the 7th inning, at least. Hudson just outdueled him :)

Braves couldn't pull it out tonight, but frankly, I don't care. One midseason game is nothing compared to a Gamecock championship :D

Indeed, he looked like the dominating Jurrjens of the last two years, not the hurting Jurrjens of April :) Excellent news.

4-2 over the Mets tonight to open that series... and now a 4 game lead in the East :)

In unrelated news, I'm actually in Atlanta now. Were this a home series, I'd probably have made a game this weekend.

I intend to catch a Braves game during the Milwaukee series the day before I go to the new Atlanta ATP tournament next week.

    Sounds like fun!

Braves couldn't quite pull out the sweep today, but they're still heading into the All Star Break with a 4 game division lead over the Mets (and Phillies just half a game back of them) and the best record in the NL :)

Braves trade Yunel Escobar and Jo-Jo Reyes for Alex Gonzalez and two minor leaguers

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the reasoning behind the trade was as much about Escobar's clubhouse attitude as anything else, and his lack of production merely the reason why management wasn't willing to put up with it any more. If that's the case, then I can't argue too much about this, even though I doubt Gonzalez will be all that different offensively than Escobar. He's having a better year so far, sure, but his career numbers indicate that it's not likely to continue, at least not at where he's been so far this season. Still, he's a very good defensive player, and that's very important for a shortstop.

well we won, first game back. New guy didn't do too badly. Heyward struggled at bat, but understandable since it was his first time back, but made an awesome catch.

and congradts to McCann for helping the NL win the All Star Game.

well we got the split...strange on how the umpires wanted to throw everyone out...

we need to work on our pitching, because it was kinda scary of all the hits and runs we were giving up...

McCann got a grand slam the same day Yunel Escobar with the BJ finally gets a home run, and its a grand slam on the same day.

I can understand tossing Venters the other day after the warning... though I don't think it was intentional. I've noticed that Venters is frequently wild when he first comes in, often in the vicinity of his two pitches Saturday... though when its often against a right handed batter, its not so significant. I was kinda surprised they didn't toss Fielder when he went way out of the way trying to go after Gonzalez.

Didn't see much of the game yesterday, but saw that they hit Heyward, both benches warned, then they hit someone else very shortly thereafter and didn't get tossed for it? Given the day before, that seems very odd.

    That's crazy.

And naturally, nothing happened to the Brewers pitcher or to Fielder (as far as I've seen, and given that they somehow weren't ejected, I seriously doubt anything will)

Venters is appealing the suspension, so it will be determined early next week.

Meanwhile, the Braves took 2 out of 3 from the Padres, though yesterday's loss hurt. Only the second time all year the Braves lost after leading after 7 innings. Still, the 8-0 win today was nice :)
