Autumn 2010 Role Playing Forum Awards

Welcome to the Autumn 2010 RPF Awards!

Please be sure to review the entire post (even if you?ve done this before) to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Purpose of the Awards
Our role playing forums are very special ? unique in their quality and community. We come here to play, but also to work. It?s not easy to build a successful game or navigate through the galaxy with a character. It?s especially challenging now, with three distinct forums dedicated to different aspects of role playing. Many of you dedicate significant amounts of your free time to make this place the best it can be.

These awards have been established in recognition of the extraordinary efforts of you ? our users. The VIPships and publicity awarded to winners are meant to serve as both a reward for a job well done and a way to increase visibility. It is hoped that others will learn from their example, and that they will continue to serve as leaders of these role playing forums.

How it works
Awards are held four times per year, in April (Spring), July (Summer), October (Autumn) and January (Winter).

The four categories for awards are:

Best GM
Best Roleplayer
Best RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)
Best New RPG (Star Wars and Non-Star Wars)

New RPGs are defined as any active game less than three (3) months old and have over 50 posts at the time of nomination (once a game crosses the 50 post threshold, it may be nominated so long as the window to do so is still open). RPGs must be active (no locked threads may be nominated).

Voting will consist of two rounds:

Round 1:
[ul][li]Lasts for five (5) days[/li]
[li]A time to nominate any active RPG or player[/li]
[li]Once a thread/player has been nominated once, please refrain from nominating them again (one nomination is sufficient to save a spot on the ballot)[/li]
[li]Users may not nominate themselves for awards[/li]
[li]All users may make a total of two (2) nominations per category[/li][/ul]
Any RPG that wins an award becomes ineligible for next season's awards, to ensure fairness and variety. Any players who win awards will be ineligible until the next year.

Round 2
[ul][li]Begins immediately after the results of Round 1 are posted[/li]
[li]A list of all the nominees will be compiled for members to pursue[/li]
[li]You then have seven (7) days to PM your votes from the choices to the host[/li]
[li]Users have the option of voting for up to three (3) people in the Best RPer and best GM categories, and up to two (2) games in the Games categories[/li][/ul]

***Campaigning (ie, soliciting votes and/or nominations) at any time during the awards, in any thread, in any forum, is absolutely not allowed!***
The winners will be announced at the end of Round 2.
Prizes
As always, the part you've all been waiting for.

The winning GMs and Roleplayers will each be awarded VIPship (with the ability to choose custom colors) for one week. In addition, they will earn a place in the "RPF Hall of Fame" in the Community Centre. The winning RPGs will receive a special place in the introductory sticky thread, as well as the right to the title of "Best RPG," until the next season's winners are announced. Moderators are allowed to win Awards, but their prize will be limited to recognition alone. When a moderator places in the Best GM/RPer category, the top three contenders will be recognized, with the two non-mods getting colors. Two non-moderator users are guaranteed colors for every awards season.
The "RPF Stars" Awards

Winners of the RPF Stars Awards will not receive titles or colors, but they are encouraged to place their titles in their sig or bio. The idea behind these awards is to provide recognition for exemplary members of our community who st

Best New Star Wars RPG: 5 BBY
Best Star Wars RPG: 5 BBY
Best GM: Sarge

If any game and GM needed to be nommed, it was this combo. Sarge has created a game that sparked instant buzz and continues to be enjoyable with a high level of activity. If that doesn't qualify...well then I don't know what does. :D

So, this Season I really wasn´t around that much. Actually I may not have read a line of RPing. But I think it is a shame we have ManCubs and Winged blocked, as it might have deserved a last farewell nomination. Anyway, among those who left I at least wanna see one or two on the list . . . so my honorary nominations . . .

Best RPer:
1. LordT. I think he had one post this Season (which was excellent, but little to little, maybe), but I wanted to see him one last time on that list. Just because he was ever helpful, always improving games and helping out others. Also because he was not always nice, but actually a grumpy old man, when we needed one (and maybe sometimes when we didn´t) and an unforgettable player. Nobody did more for less credits than him. So yeah, one last nomination he deserves

Look at this. I don´t check for a few weeks and everybody begins throwing around nominations.

Serious Fin, thanks for your appreciation. But I wrote that onlysinglelittle post way back last Season. You just needed forever to post it. So I really do not deserve to be on that list. I simply was inactive for all of the season.

Xany, Peng, Sock. Please take me of the nominee list.

Thanks and good luck to you all.

Best GM:
1. BobaMatt (On part 3 of AFAS right now and yet he's still struggling to keep it going. Dedication right there)
2. pashatemur (Though I'm not part of Galaxy at War, I've read through some of it and the complications that I've seen and how she seems to be doing the best she can for her players warrants her a spot on this list)

Best RPer:
1. Ktala (She and grey and Liam have been a joy to read with the crazy antics that they're going through that some certain GM has cooked up for them :p )
2. darthramza (What other kind of mind is there that can possibly create the posts that he has made? :p )

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. +++ Fate of the Sith: Shadow Hunters +++ (Currently the only RP taking place in the Legacy era and yet is focused on a new, unknown threat, bringing about interesting players that I'm playing with for the first time, and a GM that seems dedicated to getting her game up there with some different tactics like hidden character sheets and Force power assignments; all rolled in to no doubt give something surprising but refreshing)
2. THE GALAXY AT WAR PART IV: Prisoner of Coruscant (From what I've read from the setting and storyline, while seeming quite complicated from initial readings, the creativity that is warped in there cannot be ignored)

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. AVP: Alien vs. Predator
2. Halo TODAY: The Pacific Campaign

Best New Star Wars RPG:
1. Fate of the Sith: Shadow Hunters
2. THE GALAXY AT WAR PART IV: Prisoner of Coruscant

5. Most Social User: blubeast1237 (This was a tough one, especially with recent discussions)
6. Best Single Post: darthramza - Imperial Fist - 8/2 8:45pm (Nothing like a memorable first post that a certain GM will always recall from his first, successful game)

10. Sith-I-5

Sith-I-5 Force Ghost star 6

Best GM:
1. pashatemur, updating starmaps, that excellent library thread, sorting through and re-posting the hoards of character sheets from returning players, welcoming new ones, managing the smooth continuation from GAW III events that were written a year before, responding promptly to the request for links, once we realised how much we would have to research the end of III, for this, pash is the best GM of all time.
2. Though I cannot nominate him, and am wasting a nom, this is my first time seeing Bravo in action, and the subtle little innovations in running the game, and dealing with players' concerns, makes me want to mention him in despatches.

Best RPer:
1. Dubya-Scott, because sometimes, being willing to creatively input and support a game, where there are literally just you and one other guy still remaining, is enough for my criteria.
2. GenOochy, if not already, is going to be a star on these boards. I mean, I have created things, organisations and what-not, but his Wolatarian civilization, complete with his two star system and some colonies political intrigue, military overview and logistics, down to characterisations and action=based roleplaying. Drokk, he's good.

Best Star Wars RPG:
1. Star Wars: Final Resurrection. Though locked, it was running during the period being voted upon.
2.

Best Non-Star Wars RPG:
1. AvP: Alien vs Predator

4. Best Character Design: Mr Fett, and Tearus Jeandro. After stepping in to run this Mandalorian merc, after Darth RL struck the player, I grew to love playing him. Fett's foundation made the character such a draw, and a challenge, eg. *checks last post to orient self with character* Character has volunteered to single-handedly invade and destroy a star destroyer during the upcoming space battle...well how am I supposed to do that!!!
5. Best Opening / Most Potential At Opening:
6. Most Improved RPer: OrrionCarn. Because there is not a 'Best new RPer' nom.

Hey you guys, it's the end of the voting period and I only have eight (8) votes. We don't normally publish voter statistics, but let's just say this is a really low turnout.

What's going on? Do you need more time? Or ... well ... are the Awards going completely out of style? :(

If I may propose a theory:

[image=http://i395.photobucket.com/albums/pp39/darthramza/RLthulhu.jpg]

Well, to be more exact, a combination of RLthulhu sapping potential voters' free time and awareness of the games and nominees. That leads to some serious voter apathy (I know the latter is what's keeping me from voting). Combine that with the possible perception of an overabundance of awards seasons - I mean, I can't think of a time where I didn't think "It's awards season already? Holy crap, wasn't the last one like last week?" - and you've got a recipe for low turnout.

Alternatively, I propose a possible correlation between US election turnout and RPF voter turnout - both were really low this month.:p

Mmm. As to that, we've actually already made the transition to a three-seasons-per-year model. There were four months between the Summer and Autumn awards. [face_whistling] We just didn't announce it because we're still coming up with a good naming scheme.
