"The overriding philosophy in Episode I - and in all the Star Wars movies, for that matter - is the balance between good and evil." - George Lucas

The existence of evil is inevitable. The Force is described as the energies generated by all living things. In what universe would these energies ever be found to be uniformly positive in nature?

If the dark side is in a person, and people generate the Force, shouldn't the dark side be in the Force as well?

Of course there is a light side; it was spoken of in the OT ( using its original name ), and more recently in The Clone Wars.

They are only really able to be linked in an oblique sense - in that one may be seen to depend on an individual instance of the other, in that it could be said that whoever seeks to restore balance to the Force should themselves be 'balanced' in the sense of not being a similar global threat. They are different concepts. Only one of them is the balance with which the films have concerned themselves. The other mostly lacks the relevance which has been imputed to it.

Oh hell no. It's been well established that the Sith were the reason for the imbalance. It's notable that canon material never similarly accuses the Jedi on this point.

The filmmakers muddied the waters by not throwing out the George Lucas version of the Force and replacing it with the internet's version?

Yet that is precisely how they were described in 1975: as halves of the Force.

The dark side has been referred to as a part of the Force, and the balance is between the light and dark sides. Thus it is not accurate to say that the dark side is itself an imbalance.

Two Jedi Text from The Last Jedi novel
    Aionimica and The Rammahgon.
What could they mean? Ancient Force rituals? The Jedi equivalent to Genesis and Exodus? Somehow related to the balance?

Well, I don’t believe balance is 50% good vs. 50% evil. Creation/destruction, life/death, yes. But in principle, not in numerical calculation.

Now the dark siders throw things out of balance by not allowing you to have a good life while you’re alive, deciding your life for you, and judging who lives and who dies. And ei h the Sith, at least, their corporeal immortality and death to enemies.

And we can lay to rest Snoke or Luke being gray.
