Glad to see that happening. Drogba has always been a personal favorite of mine, and he should end his career at Chelsea.

And as if this day couldn't get better, Gerrard announces his England retirement. Yay!

I'm guess you're not as frightened for England's future as I was (and still am) for Germany's when Lahm announced his Germany retirement?

Gerard made the right call. The time is for the future of England's team to take them forward, Gerard is not part of that.

    good decision by Gerrard.

Evra confirmed to Juve. Woody is on his way back from the US to sort out some transfers, apparently. hopefully the delay in the Evra deal has something to do with Arturo. IT ALL MAKES SENSEE

    Atletico is asking about Torres.

I would almost feel bad getting 3 of their best players and then sending them back Torres. Almost.

How much are you going to pay them to take him?

He's got £18 million left in salary over two years. I figure we should give them £17,999,999.75 and we'll be fine.

How much did Villa pay for Kieran Richardson? We shouldn't ask for a dime over that with a straight face.

Kieran Richardson transcends such mortal considerations as "money"

His Shopping Centre (formerly Mall) needs to have a handle on its finances, though. Lest it go bankrupt and the RICHARDSON name be besmirched.

Spanish media and the Daily Fail have really outdone themselves. Mats Hummels to United for GBP 16m. He has no release clause and a market value in the neighborhood of €35m. But Dortmund are stupid that they're going to let him walk for a little more than half that just because van Gaal asked nicely or something? Yeah.

Oh, how could I forget, his contract runs through the 2016-17 season.

    Luiz for £50m
    Hummels for £16m

    Woody Woodward strikes again!

i hope we do pursue it, although it's highly unlikely he leaves.

Coming from a diehard of a team with an 180 million pound wage bill..this just isn't fair. He'll be incredible at the Bernabeu, though.

£63m deal confirmed for James. not sure what that means for Isco. another of Madrid's wasted stars.

it also means Carlos will surely have to revert back to the 4231 that he started the season with, and not the 3 in midfield (including Di Maria who was excellent all season) which.... won the CL. is Kroos and Modric defensively strong enough in central midfield to support the 4 in attack?

    ---------Kroos---Modric----
    Bale------James------Ronaldo
    -----------Benzema------

that is damn sexy going forward though.

I assume half of Europe will be putting in offers for DiMaria and Isco.

Modric showed quite clearly at the World Cup that he's not very good in a double 6. Kroos really isn't either. I assume Modric will be back on the bench, with Kroos paired with Alonso for as long as the latter stays healthy.

To put it bluntly, they have amazing depth in the attacking positions, but the team is as poorly put together as the Galacticos when Beckham arrived.

That's a significant part of it. The other big factor is the FA-Club relationship, which is far more cooperative than in england. And that is a direct result of the ownership structure. Is Abramovich, the Glazers, or the Sheikh-du-jour going to agree to invest heavily in a youth academy with a primary focus on English talent unless he absolutely has to?
