Pinch a goal and shut up shop.

so, important question: what is the more defensive act - parking the bus or shutting up shop?

Shutting the parked bus in front of the shop.

Parking the bus = letting the opposition have the ball and blocking every attack
Shutting up shop = Keep possession in your own half not letting the opposition get the ball, but making no headway yourself

So Parking the bus is more defensive as that requires actual defending.

by that definition, shutting up shop rarely happens in practice.

You could park the bus and then shut the shop.

Shutting up shop is generally a practice used in the last 5 minutes or so. It's saying "We're just closing now, so thank you for your custom, but it's time for us to go now."

Parking the bus is a practice stooped in longevity.

And yes, you could park the bus, then shut the shop. But not at the same time. They are mutually exclusive.

Yes. I was struggling with teem/team so went for an incorrect alteration.

In other news, brilliant start from Liverpool

I'd much prefer both Liverpool and Manchester City to qualify from their groups.

Everton have a goal against them incorrectly ruled offside. Typical.

Sorry... inevitable assist from Lukaku. Because that's another thing strikers can do.

Where was the bendtner goal? You said it was an inevitability.

Even inevitable Bendtner goals don't materialise.

Anyway, a genuinely decent performance tonight. Lukaku beginning (finally) to look like the player we thought we'd bought.

Diggy. How many more posts about Everton do I have to make before I can have another direct dig at Mario?

Well, your post before this one was about both, so I'd say you have to wait at least until he plays again. For more than a 20 spud...err, sub appearance.

United's lineup is weird. McNair & Blackett did well last week but now they make way for Carrick as a CB?
