On "El Mariachi's" defense, it's a 90 minute action film, shot on color film stock, and with sound.....FOR 7,000 DOLLARS!

I went to school with film students that spent at least 3 times as much on 10 minute short films that were hardly memorable.

I think that El Mariachi gained most of it's attention on how little it cost to make it. People thought that if Robert Rodriguez can make El Mariachi with 7 grand, imagine what he can do with 7 million....and that's where "Desperado" comes in.

When I see film students spending crazy money on short films, it's easy for me to be inspired by a movie like El Mariachi. However, it wouldn't make my top 10 movies of the 90's.

Why do you guys feel these movies?
And how can it be summed up in the title of a movie? You need to explain to us why you think so :)

Sorry about that. I feel this is the best movie because of many reasons. The music is some of the best music I have heard in years. The charactes are superior to any other ones. And it is a classic story of good versus evil. One man is right when everyone else is wrong. Jack Ryan is a hero that everyone can relate to.

Heat--I must watch this and very soon.

AHHHHH!!!!! Rogue, you're such a big fan of The Insider and yet you haven't seen big mac-daddy Heat?! What are you waiting for, brotha? This is the film that finally united two of the greatest actors of all time (Godfather pt2 doesn't count, they didn't even see each other ;) ).

Both films are great. Mann's getting overlooked in all these discussions in the Ampitheatre, methinks. :)

The Hunt For Red October is the best Jack Ryan movie yet, however it was released in 89 I believe so that would not count.

The Phantom Menace is the best movie of the 90's.

    Other close ones are:

    Heat
    Goodfellas
    Casino
    Jurassic Park
    Interview With The Vampire
    Terminator 2
    Bravehart
