The Best Video Game EVER!?!?!

I see Wingcommander I was not mentioned. What an utterly horrendous oversight. I am sure it will be corrected. In fact, I correct it now. Wingcommander I, best PC game ever.

 

I have a soft spot for the original Xwing game. Flying down that Star trench was the most thrilling thing in the world.

 

Ahhh so many great games...

Contra, and Dr.Mario took up all my time in the the NES days. Then I went on to Sega...many good games on there but nothing that really stands on top for me , that I can think of at least. N64 had Goldeneye, (played this game for countless hours) Ocarina of Time, and Rouge Squadron. On PS2 my hands down favorite game is Grand Theft Auto 3 (GTA Vice City comes out next month...yeah baby!!) I've never been too big on PC but I would go with Jedi Outcast and Roller Coaster Tycoon...very addicting.

 

Baldur's Gate

 

I know some friends who would agree with Balder's Gate. However I personally got bored playing it. *shrug*

 

DeusEx, Civ II, C&C Red Alert and Duke Nukem 3D.
Oh, and Age of Kings.

How could I forget?!? INDIANA JONES AND THE FATE OF ATLANTIS!!! Back when LucasArts games had state of the art graphics, story and sound!! WHY, LUCASARTS, WHY?!?!?!?!?

Best game ever? That's a hard call to make, but I think my top 5 would be (in no particular order):

Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
GoldenEye (N64)
Thief: The Dark Project (PC)
Myst (PC)

 

Picking one absolute best video game in the history of video games is difficult, but I can give a shortlist:


X-Wing
Command and Conquer
Goldeneye
Final Fantasy 7
Deus Ex

 

Battlefield 1942...

J/k, but maybe I will be able to say that in ten years or so.

 

I think Metal Gear Solid and MGS2: Sons of Liberty are two of the best games ever created. But there is also The Sims, Spy Hunter the Arcade, Myth: The Fallen Lords, Twisted Metal 2, Tomb Raider series, Mike Tyson's Punchout for the NES.

 

It's time to bump this thread back up and get some new ideas into it. What really is the best video game ever? If I remember correctly the concensus was Tetris.
