I found The Gospel According to St. Matthew to be kind of overrated. I know part of the charm for some people is the use of non-actors, but they were a little too "non" for my taste. I admire the philosophical underpinnings and the stark aesthetics, but it left me rather cold. I don't know . . . it's a film I respect a lot and admire, but for me the story of Jesus, which is really tragedy in many ways, needs to take me to that transcendent catharsis of emotion. While I respect the minimalism of Pasolini's film, it didn't connect with me on that emotional level that I wanted it to. I get what he's going for and I'm glad he made the film, but it'll never be my favorite.

All I know about this series is that Stephanie Leonidas (British actress but of Greek Cypriot lineage, for what it matters) played Rahab, and during her scene the Israelites literally start chanting "Israel!" right before they begin massacring the **** out of Jericho. Pretty twisted.

I prefer the Mel Gibson version where Satan looks like Britney Spears.

My roommate has a copy, and the blu-ray case says, "The Epic Miniseries". At first I was like, "Wut, you can't just call your own movie epic or awesome."

Then I realized it's literally an epic. D'oh.

Nope. If it called itself "The Epic of Jesus" that would be correct.

But no....they choose "Epic" to describe the miniseries itself.

Which is far from being epic.
