Pretty sure sunscreen prevents the Vitamin D thing. Though tanning beds are baaaaad.

And since I too am deficient, I asked my doctor about it. She said it's possible to lack the ability to turn sunlight into Vitamin D, so you could burn to a crisp and still get none.

I don't know if I have that problem, but I do know my burn time starts before the time necessary to get Vitamin D intake. So it's take supplements, or risk melanoma.

 

I'm not as tan as I probably should be, but (while pale) I don't burn too easily. As for Vitamin D...no idea there. Then again, the only things that I can think of that aren't good with me are my lungs and somewhat high blood pressure.

 

I luckily don't have problems absorbing the sun. It's going outside to get the sun which is the problem.

*Tries to stand up, but ends up becoming hilarious hi-jinks involving the bar stool protruding from his rear. Finally gives up, and sits on another barstool, which also has glue on it*.

 

Rilwen I just read up on it and yes, it seems sunblock does negate the vitamin D absorption. No fake tan for me.

And I usually have the blinds shut. Probably should stop that. I have a light therapy box but it's just the light, no vitamin D.
