The JC Forums have become...not fun. Mods are being demoted left and right, RMCOY resigned, purists are constantly bashing...

This is supposed to be a fun escape, and now it's just as stressful as real life. The users have forgotten how to have fun. The power grabs, and abuse of power...it has to stop. I think it's sad that it takes a user from Aug. 2002 to tell you this, but...it has to be done.

Not to be disrespectful, but the mods have no small part in this. For example, DarthAttorney has been taking himself much too seriously in the EUC. Each day, threads are locked left and right. "No new social threads." It's the EU Community. When it's so restricted, it's not fun.

Everyone here needs to loosen up, and the mods need to do whatever they can to make it happen. It's a shame that it's come to this.

    ~Boba

Kadue Edit: Okay, this thread has lived out it's usefulness.

Community is for fan clubs. There are enough social threads. Go in one of them.

...now it's just as stressful as real life.

    I wouldn't go that far.

Change always happens. Things evolve and move forward. It's still fun here, you just can't take things so seriously.

AMEN. I think some people need to step back and remember that this is an internet message board. Why are we making it so hard on ourselves to have fun with power struggles and such? ?[face_plain]

"The JC Forums have become...not fun."

I'm still able to have fun here. *shrug*

"Mods are being demoted left and right,"

    Not really.

    "RMCOY resigned"

Yep, but I don't think the loss of one particular person is necessarily the end of the world. Good mods have stepped down before, and we've managed to carry on.

    "purists are constantly bashing..."

Can you explain this one a little more?

"This is supposed to be a fun escape, and now it's just as stressful as real life."

I don't see how this place can be stressful for regular members.

"The users have forgotten how to have fun."

    Not all users.

"The power grabs, and abuse of power...it has to stop."

    Okay, now I'm totally lost.

"Not to be disrespectful, but the mods have no small part in this."

It isn't the job of the moderators to make sure that everyone is having fun. Sure, we can help out once and a while, but we shouldn't have to spoon-feed the fun.

"For example, DarthAttorney has been taking himself much too seriously in the EUC. Each day, threads are locked left and right. "No new social threads." It's the EU Community. When it's so restricted, it's not fun."

Have you PM'd DarthAttorney, trying to discuss this with him?

"Everyone here needs to loosen up"

    "Everyone" includes the regular users.

You want social, you go in a social thread thats there. WHy start another? If I started a thread when one with three pages asking the same was on page 1 also, would I not have it closed?

    many users agree with you...

unfortunatly, i don't see you starting up another thread on this topic talking about basically the same info being helpful to your cause....

you are feeding the drama, whether you want to or not :)

Sorry, this thread is redundant. PLease post in the many existing threads that were started 2 years ago. Or you, could post in the many threads from last year on this very subject. If you want to get really technical, you post in the threads started in 99 about the demise of the JC.

No they're not ..... thankfully. Without change you stagnate! :)

Things always change; there's no way around it. If things wouldn't change, it wouldn't be good either. Sometimes we just have to adjust ourselves to the change. Often it's us who need to adjust. No one said change was easy.

Of course, change isn't always good. If too many people are saying it isn't fun or complaining about something, maybe another change needs to be made; one that is for the better.

I think it's sad that it takes a user from Aug. 2002 to tell you this, but...it has to be done.

People have been saying the JC has been going downhill for years... this is nothing new. I guess all I can say is bite your lip and think of something to do here that makes you happy. Join a JC political party. Write a Fan Fic. If you're spoiler free, hang out in the No Spoilers forum.

Don't let these problems stop you from having fun. Most likely, they won't apply to you.

I registered here in December 1998 the first time I registered, and this has been said since before I registered here. There are some things that could be done better, but I don't think the JC is going anywhere any time soon.

Please PM me with any concerns you have, I'd be glad to discuss them with you if you don't feel comfortable discussing them in this thread. Vague references will never solve any problems.

i agree with JGM. i mean, i have been here a little over a year, and already i have seen about four major dramas in comms, and several groups break away from the JC. but there is always more good people comming. the cycle repeats itself. what we have to do is try to stop as many people being hurt as possible.

why don't you go hang out in welcome new users? that's always fun, and it will show you the repeating cycle on the JC....

Want some advice on how to enjoy this place? Well, I'm not good at giving advice here, but eh, here it goes...

    Ignore JC Comms.

Stick close to the friends you make here.

Remember to spend time in the movie forums.

And this one hurts a lot to say, but.. flat out, this place is going to change through time. With new people coming and old members going, there'll never be a set standard for this place. It'll grow and change.. and when the place doesn't become fun for you, email your friends from here and come back in two weeks or so.

No matter how much some of us wish this place could change to what it was when we first joined, it won't -- the odds are against that. And always remember that you're here because of Star Wars.

Or, just move on to greener fields.

That's really all you can do.

Please, don't get me wrong. I love this place, I really do. But, it is going downhill, and if something isn't done, more people will leave. This place is too uptight. Some people would say it's partly because of the titles, and I'd have to agree. Everyone and their dog has a title now, and the only people that need them are mods and VIPs. I'm just posting my views. Some of you agree, some of you don't. I respect that. I'm just saying that there are a lot of people like me who are fed up. And, ReaperFett, I realise four months is not a long time. But when I first got here, it WAS fun. But now, everyone is more concerned with procedure than enjoying themselves. Sit back and relax. Don't crack down on every single thread that might be a lilttle off. Allow some new social threads. We are here to socialise, after all. Like I said, we're here to have fun. I don't like to be posting here, adding to the drama, but I have to so that my thoughts are made known. A lot of other people share my sentiment. The JC is turning into a big soap opera; that's not why I'm here, nor is it why anyone is here. I could care less about the drama and the power struggles, but when it starts to affect everything, that's when it gets serious.

    ~Boba

EDIT: I'd like to add that the sarcasm doesn't help things.

hm...there has been a lot of drama here in the nearly 8 months i have been here, but i still think the boards are fun to come to. the only reason i am not here all the time is because i have things that are/were keeping me busy...as for what happened with the mods...i have no comment on that...

I have been reading variations on that exact staement for three years now. Seriously I have. This place will change, some things for the better, some things for the worse. But this place will survive. It always has.

"But when I first got here, it WAS fun."

It's always fun at the beginning, because its new. And as with anything, there will always be ups and downs.

But more to the point, do you have any actual suggestions for making the JC fun again, other than vague comments like "loosen up?"

    Amazing.

Fett_123, like I suggest to everyone that makes a similar statement, check out your local Fan Force. You are free to strt social clubs, discuss whatever you want, go to movies together and generally hang out with cool people.
