Welcome to the first edition of the BSG Discussion thread! This is, of course, the place to talk about general BSG issues and news. Commentary on the episodes are clearly prohibited, but black out potential season three spoilers by highlighting black over it. Those are your orders pilots...

Onto the first topic at hand...

Something we almost saw in the series, but who would win, if they did fight it out?

    Galactica Vs. Pegasus

I'll give my answer later after I report to the briefing room (aka class).

Galactica. No question. Even if Lee is commander. because the Galactica still has the old man.
Thanks for the Chief in the banner by the way. Total surprise.

The Gal all the way, she's got mroe tricks up her sleeve than does the Pegasus.

Of course Cheif'd be in the banner, this is a BSG club after all! What's BSG with out Tyroll?

I'd say Galactica too. Better commanders, better pilots... More experience I think too. And as much as that ship went through, and it's still surviving... I think it'd hold against the Pegasus.

Tyroll rocks, of course I'd put him in there!

I disagree. The Galactica crew is all has-beens, misfits, and really green pilots. Pegasus is crewed by highly trained specialist (and a few absconded civilians). They have the ability to make new ships and the machines to train new pilots. They have also been combat ready from the get go, where as, the Galactica has had to take on many other roles. The other thing is the age of the ships. The Galactica is an old piece of junk where as the Pegasus is new and I am sure state of the art for its time. Its like compairing my 1972 Buick Lesaber to a 2006 Cadillac XLR-V.

I would like to point out that if I drove a 1972 Buick Lesaber into a 2006 Cadillac whatever, the Buick would tear through it like tissue paper. Cars today aren't made with metal. Older cars were. Newer doesn't always equal better. Plus. . . Pegawus sucks, 'nuff said!

Well, I guess you told me. Nuff said.

I actually had a 1972 Buick Lesaber as my first car, it was great...a tank (I even raced it against a Gremlin, the buick won). But I thought we were talking about Galactica vs Pegusus, not Buicks vs Cadillacs (or any other cars). I also thought this question was our opinion (not a debate). I guess I thought wrong.

I wasn't trying to attack you or your opinion. I simply wanted to point out that I would rather have a "tank" than a car that can play a dvd but can't hit something without having to be totaled. Some would say,"Hey, that Joker he's defending Buicks from the 70's, he just might be the greatest man alive. I think he should be given one of those giant checks for lots of money." It also happens to be my opinion that Pegawus sucks.
    :D

    Next question:

Who is the next person we are going to see revealed as a Cylon?

In my opinion, I think it might be either Dee, Gata, or Billy is going to come back. In season one, I think you can see Gata give something to Sharon before she shoots Bill Adama. Hmm... Not sure, this is a tough question. Lots of debates I've seen though.

I'm going to vote against Billy for the practical reason that they killed him off so the actor could accept movie roles he was being offered. Of course, if those movies flop... :) I could see either Gaeta or Dee, though.

Don't like Anders or D? Am I seeing a pattern here? Or is it just my wallpaper?

I still suspect Mrs. Tigh, and for that I blame the Baltar chair dance. If D turns out Cyclon that will make me happy because her character in the second season totally dissapointed me. A cyclon making it with Lee would be a smart move. Much like a cyclon making it with the President's aide would be a smart move. I hope they keep bringing back the Preist cyclon. He was pretty funny and if he wants to know something he can ask Iggy(sorry couldn't help the Quantum Leap joke). Sidebar: what happened to the black doctor cyclon from the farm episode. They have used all the cyclons multiple times except him(I don't count the priest because he was only in the last two episodes.)

I think Moore said in one of the commentaries that the actor who played Billy went off to pursue other opportunities, but there was always a chance he could return to BSG someday... So that quote tipped me off.

    Big BSG news today...

The SCI FI Channel has stunned fans today with the announcement of Caprica, a spin-off series from its top-rated Battlestar Galatica. SCI FI calls the potential new show "television's first science fiction family saga," centering on the history of the Adama family and the birth of the Cylons.

Set more than 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, Caprica takes place on the capital world of the Twelve Colonies. There humankind thrives, living in a peaceful society with the benefits of high technology. But the development of an advanced, robotic, artificial life form is about to change everything.

The show is in development by Galactica executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, 24 writer Remi Aubuchon, and NBC Universal Television Studio.

Here is the network's own description of the series:

The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high-technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better. But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot -- a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the Battlestar Galactica) Caprica weaves corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television's first science fiction family saga.

The announcement comes as part of SCI FI's development slate of original scripted series, mini-series, reality shows, and new late-night programming, with no word on when Caprica might go into production or premiere on the cable channel. The development slate is a long-look ahead at what the network has planned and likely not a formal pick-up of the show -- and some series, for one reason or another, never see the light of day.

If the show receives an order to go into production, certainly don't expect to see it air this year.

    What do you think?

I personally think they should hold off on this until BSG is over with. It's not that smart to have two shows going on at once, could be detrimental to the series. They'll be thinking about two shows at the same time. I dunno, maybe I'd rather have one awesome show than two ok ones. I don't want this series to sell itself out.

I do like the premise though. I am interested in seeing how the Cylons were built and designed. Also, young Bill Adama would be cool to see. But like I said, wait until BSG is over with before airing Caprica. That way, you can continue the franchise better, if you are interested in that. Kinda like the SW movies.

Where as I am interested in the history of the twelve colonies, this seems like it should be EU not it's own show. It seems like a little too much Battlestar, like they are trying to cash in on a good thing too soon and flood the market. I would be more itnerested if there were no cast members in the new series that are in the old series. Then to could have a completely expendable cast, which makes for good and exciting television. I know everyone loves the old man, but everyone loved Vader and despite how much you may have liked the prequels, they destroyed any of the mystery that made Vader so cool to begin with. Seeing Vader as a kid just seems like a bad idea, and seeing Adama as a young man also seems like a bad idea. But I'll wait and watch as I did with the prequels.

Well, I guess here's one thing to consider: Everyone knew the new BSG was gonna be crap. ;) Maybe we'll hold onto that kind of hope.
