I was here Ten years ago and we has little spoilers slipping out all the time.

There was great speculation as to when and where the big duel would take place in the movie.

Things like General Grievous got leaked early and he even appeared int the early Clone Wars cartoons.

The hype was all about the fall of the Republic the birth of the twins and the rise of the Empire and how it would all play in the movie.
The big catchphrase and selling point was the Saga would be complete on May whatever it was.

This time around we have nothing not a sausage.
We have no idea what the movie is about or who the bad guys are if there are sith or something new.
We have no idea if the movie will cheapen or contradict what went before.
My fear is this sequel trilogy is being shoehorned onto the saga and the reason we know nothing is the story and script are really weak.

I fear the reason we know nothing is they don't want to give us old fans a year and a half to bash a lame duck.

Incidentally I enjoyed the prequels and while I admit they had their faults they at-least had a strong story.

I am also a Star Trek fan and the last move was a total lift from The Wrath of Khan.
Is JJ Abrams really a safe pair of hands for Star Wars?

Alternatively, we already knew basically what was going to happen in Episode 3, knowing who all the characters were from the previous two movies, and what the state of the galaxy (and the fate of Anakin) would be from the OT. There were very few unknowns about the whole thing.

This time we know none of this, so they can keep whatever secrets they like.

A boat's a boat, but the mystery box ... that could be ANYTHING! It could even be a boat! You know how much we've always wanted one of those!

Exactly. This is much more like the lead-up to T Phantom Menace. I remember the excitement when the first spy photos of the Qui-Gon / Maul duel on Tatooine were released.

    Ahhh, the good ol' days.

How many of those ROTS spoilers you remember so fondly leaked before the movie even started filming?

We did have the micro series being released at the time as well. Probably won't have a series bridging the gap between the OT and ST until later.

Obviously, because you had seen the next three chapters. That's not the case this time - we're moving forward in a story and don't know what the end game is. Doesn't make it any less fun and also doesn't mean anything's being purposely hidden.

Not knowing what will happen is so much more fun. Finding out how we got to the end game of ROTS was fun but the vast unknown of the ST is exciting. Though I can't wait to find out more details about what the threat is for the ST. Need to narrow down the speculating at some point.

Indeed. With the Prequels, we already knew how the trilogy would end before TPM was released. What we didn't know was how we would get to that point. What I love about the build up to the sequels is we literally know nothing about the story. Of course I hope that 'nothing' turns into 'a little bit' fairy soon....;)

I wasn't around for the festivities here prior to Episode III. As far as Star Trek, I'm a fan of the OS films, and I thought 'Into Darkness' (and JJ's first Trek film) was great. "Total lift" of ST II is an overstatement and mischaracterization, tasteful nostalgic allusions would be more appropriate. It leaves me with confidence that he will do an excellent job with Episode VII and the other films, should he be the one to direct them.
