I have always been of the opinion that the song would have been much superior if it was about anti-poverty relief efforts. That would make it more thematically resonant, and also tie the title of the song more cogently to the verses. For instance how much better of a society might we have had if the lyrics were:

You can stay indoors//
Until you're ready to go//
Avoid exposure to all the snooooow

That way people could learn about the dangers of extreme weather and how the homeless are especially vulnerable during heat waves and cold fronts. Instead they made some frivolous thing that I do not think is even very much like YMCAs.

This jerk on the JCC got mad and tried to take my mod powers away just because I called all nerds potential serial killers it was just my prejudice talking now everyone thinks I'm a Trump supporter which you can't be over there. Now I think I'm not going to be a mod anymore which is bullcrap it took me TWELVE YEARS of good behavior to become a mod and I think I'm a god mod.
