Sorry- meant to post this thread the other day but came down with something.

Anyways, that Jedi Fortune Cookiee is kinda funny...doesn't Jar Jar essentially succeed by fraud all the time?

Jar Jar, some clones, and some other guy were originally supposed to go the pirate's lair to pay the ransom for Dooku, but instead have to rescue Anakin and Kenobi. What happens to Dooku? Does he somehow escape again?

The Gran senator is conspicuous by his absence in any of the previews. Do we have another gonner in our hands?

I can't wait to see what half-baked excuse they will come up with to have the Naboo Representative take charge of a military squadron... If they even honor us with a half-baked excuse, that is...

I don't mean to sound like a hater here, but this episode already has so many things going against it that it would be a miracle if it turns out not to be a complete failure:
    - Jar Jar leading troops.
    - Fives not in the 501st and suddennly with the rank of captain.
    - Anakin putting his blind hatred aside and joining in with Dooku.
    - The responsibility of explaining why Dooku didn't put up any resistance to the pirates.
    - Jar Jar possibly rescuing the Jedi.

You can say I've got low expectations for this one. Which is a pity, cause swoop chases should be very cool.

i'm assuming that dooku let himself be captured by the pirates to draw in the jedi/republic for an ambush. he may have also let the pirates take his lightsaber to fool them into thinking that they are in control of the situation. palpatine sent jar jar b/c he knows, and hopes, that he will royally screw things up for the republic and get everybody killed. that's my theory anyway. i'm curious to see what happens. the writers haven't let me down yet so i'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

A further 50 second preview (taken from the official TCW thread):

This does give me some hope....at least the episode looks good.

Why Jar-Jar is thrown in, we'll never know, but it looks to me like this is a "prison escape" episode, like The Lair of GG was the "haunted house" episode.

    I'm cool with that.

I don't mind Jar Jar one bit. He's a great character! Can't wait to see him command a squad of clone troopers.

This episode is gonna be awesome!

    I envy you...

I don't really mind Jar Jar in itself. I enjoy his presence in most of Ep1, it's just when his over the top antics ruin the mood of potentially strong scenes that he aggravates me. The prime example of this is the field battle for Naboo. That sequence could have been awesome, but Jar Jar's constant clowning in the forefront prevented it from having any bite to it.

That's why his presence in Bombad Jedi didn't bother me much, since the whole episode was never supposed to be taken seriously anyway. But now we have a sequel to a respectable episode, with Jedi trying to escape imprisonment and clone troops battling pirates with tanks and swoops, and the addition of Jar Jar antics here can only distract and detract from potentially gripping sequences.

Hmmm. That video doesn't do much for Dooku.

I really hope he gets a chance to kick ass in this one. He hasn't been doing too swell so far... he lets his main General disobey/hang up on him; Sidious berates him for having a lousy apprentice; he lets some mangy Weequays steal his ship and lightsaber without a fight; now he's being dragged around like a piece of luggage.

That's what he gets for ditching his team earlier in the game :p

While I've got no problem accepting the shows as part of the canon, the lead-in comics have me raising my eyebrows a bit. This weeks is erm... fun :p

Mind you, Pilf looks like Wile E. Coyote in this one, and for some reason that makes it all okay for me [face_laugh]

Agreed. Lord Tyranus must be given the chance to prove himself worthy of being Sidious' apprentice. A possible situation (in this forthcoming episode) for such a chance would be... Tyranus repays Hondo Ohnaka for his hospitality with a quick stab through the chest/back. [face_devil]

Ok, I've just read the webcomic...

    WHAT THE BLOODY HELL??!!

So the last episode ends with Anakin and Obi-Wan cleverly evading being drugged by the pirates, and the next will start by basically saying "Yeah... but they eventually got drugged anyway. SO, our Jedi heroes are captured..." ???!! That's the lamest writing I have ever seen in my life!! I get the feeling the people who wrote the two episodes never really exchanged notes, that's the only explanation. One thought the other would deal with how the Jedi were captured and they left it at that. One week from release someone realized none of the episodes explained the capture and they left it to the webcomic to come up with some nonsensical silly scene. Really? So Obi and Anakin know the drinks are drugged and evade that. They also know the roast is drugged so they evade that too. Then they sense the chandelier falling and evade that as well. And yet they still manage to stick around and fall prey to the bucket of drugs in the ventilation system?!! Give me a break!

I tell you, I don't know what's happening to this series in 2009. Up to the end of 2008 I was a huge fan of TCW, anxiously awaiting the next episode and thoroughly enjoying it. Now I'm dreading what's to come. With this duology, so far I am really speechless. The level of storytelling sloppyness and disregard for continuity has been staggering. I dearly hope the series gets back on track when this is done.

I kinda agree, the writing for these two episodes has been kinda poor, but maybe tommorrow's episode will fix it all by revealing the pirates to be under Sidious's pay as a test for Dooku, after all, the last few episodes have all been about the Separatist leaders proving their worth, we have Ventress, Grievous, and now Dooku. I think that tommorrows episode will clear up a lot, and if it doesn't eh, the series as a whole has been pretty good, and one or two bad episodes are tolerable.

    Agreed and agreed.

One thing that might save this episode would be if Honda was revealed as Sora Bulq. That's probably wayyyy out there and to EU-ish for the show to go for (despite Sora being an AOTC character), but Filoni (or someone working on the project; I can't remember at the moment) once mentioned there's a chance he would appear in a future episode.

And it just seems suspiciously coincidental that Dooku would have a Weequay Dark Jedi working for him at this time.[face_thinking]

Whoa, Gry, calm down. I can understand being upset with an episode or story-arc, but I think it's really, REALLY jumping the gun to start worrying about the future direction of the series. Now, I'm not exactly sure where I stand on selective-canonization, but if you dislike the webcomic that much, you could just choose to ignore it in the long run of continuity.

I like Jar Jar, for reasons I have mentioned various times, and I feel that by the looks of it, we won't see him hogging the spotlight too many times. This is the second episode and the reasons he's so hated (outside of the obvious) are that the break is too short (four or five episodes) and that this story arc would have been better off as a swashbuckler. Then again, foolish yet lucky characters are sometimes a component of swashbucklers. ;)

You have valid (heck, probably prophetic) points on him ruining potentially dramatic moments, though. However, I think that this episode wasn't aiming for 'philosophical issues of good and evil' when I saw Obi-Wan, Anakin and Dooku pole-vaulting in the video preview like an old Loony Tune's cartoon. Think about it. :p

I also think it's alright for the trio to work together even if it somewhat contradicts some preexisting materials. We could view it as Dooku being smart enough to know he needs help to get out. Or, alternatively, he's cooperating with them to sell them out to the pirates. Wasn't he seen next to the pirates in a DVD feature? Could hint at him making deals and all that.

Remember. The Clone Wars may intend to get deeper as it goes on, but this is only the TWELFTH episode. Not even HALF of season 1. Besides that, the Clone Wars also intends to cover different things. Stories about Jedi, not-so-important Jedi, clones, battle droids, Separatists. This also applies to themes. I'm sure that besides action, adventure, mystery and drama, they also have, oh, what's that word I'm looking for, HUMOUR in their list. Expecting excellence is alright, but not allowing something like this is kind of like asking why a movie's sequel isn't released a month after watching the actual movie.

Edit: Changed Garth to Gry. How embarrassing.

I still don't get the hate for Dooku Captured. I thought it was a fine episode.

...but yeah. I don't understand this. No in-show explanation for Anakin/Obi-Wan being captured? What the heck? Why have the triumphant moment showing the duo escaping being drugged in part one if they are just going to be captured with no explanation in part two? Why not just have them get captured in part one and make it a cliffhanger?

I worry for this episode...I hope it's not as bad as I suspect.
