From Starwars.com: Jedi Aayla Secura Makes Her Clone Wars Debut

    <img src="http://www.starwars.com/img/theclonewars/news20090112/aayla_bg.jpg">

edi General Aayla Secura makes her series debut in "Jedi Crash," an all-new episode of the animated hit Star Wars: The Clone Wars that premieres at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, January 16, on Cartoon Network.

When Anakin is gravely injured in battle, General Secura must teach Ahsoka the Jedi philosophy of having no personal attachments, even as they brave an unfamiliar planet in search of medical help for their stricken leader.

A Twi;lek Jedi Knight, Aayla Secura first appeared in Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars: Republic series, and most famously made brief but memorable appearances in both Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. But before this episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she never had a speaking role.

"This was our opportunity to really find out what she was like," says supervising director Dave Filoni. "When we were developing her, the original concept for her voice was street tough and recognizably American. Then we hit on the idea of giving her more of a French accent, and that really helped us define her personality. Jennifer Hale does a great job voicing Aayla, adding new dimensions to the character and making her into something like a tough, older sister to Ahsoka."

He says Secura understands Ahsoka's difficult position, but also wants Anakin's Padawan to recognize the importance of the Jedi philosophy toward personal attachments. "She realizes Ahsoka cares for Anakin, but she takes an approach that's almost like, 'I don't have time for these emotions, kid.'

"Jedi have a range of personalities and attitudes, and she's very different from Kit Fisto and Anakin Skywalker. That's such a huge aspect of this series," Filoni says. "We are able to fully realize these characters as walking, talking individuals with great and different personalities, to show the entire galaxy of Jedi."

Well, now that we have the proper thread, I guess I'll repost this:

It seems that fundamentally Jedi Crash will bring us another Separatist victory, since the episode apparently opens with the Republic loosing a hopeless battle and going down in flames, forcing the Jedi to retreat. The rest should be just a survival story, with the Separatists only coming into play on the second episode of the duology (in which they will most likely loose). But hey, let's enjoy the Sep victory we're given!

PS: "...roots that lead to the tree of evil" ??! What is that, an Ithorian saying?

Thank god for a new episode. After the phantom Obi-Wan saber drama of the last episode (as well as the tone of that thread), even a gay man like myself would rather talk about blue breasts.

So please, talk about blue breasts already. :)

    EDIT: BTW, woo-hoo, Rob Coleman!

EDIT 2: Maybe if this episode is really well written, Katie and write and direct Episodes 7, 8, and 9! (Well, someone had to say it...)

Can't wait to see Aayla in action, she was always my favorite jedi in the republic comics! I was so mad when she had no speaking roles in the film, glad to see she made it into the series!! :) Hoepfully this means we get some sort of mention of Quinlan vos or some kind of appearance, after all Aayla was his padawan!

I never pictured her with a french accent, but jennifer hale is awesome and voiced my all time fav SW character bastila, so im sure the french accent will grow on me.

I agree. Very much looking forward to it.

But I sense perhaps more anger/irritation on the way from those who love and are attached to the EU. In particular, and I'll hide this because, even though I think it'd be allowed (having been shown in the clip), I'm not sure...

A ship jumping to hyperspace while still in a planet's atmosphere. I'd think that violates the EU's explanation of hyperdrive technology. (You know, mass shadows and all.)

I wouldn't say that's within the atmosphere. Looks beyond the stratosphere to me, somewhat similar to the Battle of Coruscant. I don't see anything to complain. If they were under the clouds, then it would certainly be reason for complains.

They are above the clouds. But the sky is still blue (which would indicate they are lower than the battle over Coruscant). So they're high up, but still well within the gravitational pull of the planet.

I'm not wanting big EU fans to not like it. Nor am I saying this is an absolute contradiction. But I fear for some being in the upper stratosphere won't be an acceptable enough rationale.

Bah, no, I think we're quite safe here. A planet with very little mass and low gravity would have a very week mass shadow to block hyperjumps, you would simply need to be in the stratosphere.

Wow so the Jedi seem to be against Personal Attachment. What a stupid rule. Isn't personal Attachment one of the things that makes us human?

And how is the fear in losing evil?

Well, to be fair, if anyone needs to be worried about coming up with acceptable rationales, it's the massive EU fans, not us normal folk. :p

About the ship going into hyperspace possibly in atmoshpere, Filoni said that these days George Lucas is a big part of the production process these days so Im sure if it was against what he thought was acceptable, he'd have said something about it. I think a lot of fans get tooooooo picky about the little things. I think Obi's magic appearing saber is a lot more unbelieveable then weather or not the ship is far enough away from the planet to go into hyperspace and if he let that slide then this is not a problem.
