Now that Season 1 is on DVD and Blu-Ray, I'd like to give a fresh start to discussion on Season 1 for those fans who are checking out The Clone Wars for the first time on video, who might want to avoid spoilers for Season 2.

I'll also be including a general FAQ for Season 1 that will be updated on a running basis.

First off, for those who have been following the discussion till now, our prior pre-release discussion thread can be found HERE.

I'll reiterate that this thread is to have no spoilers for Season 2, except for discussion regarding any Season 2 preview extras included on the DVD/Blu-Ray. If you'd like to discuss any of these episodes in a full spoiler context, you can use any of the individual episode discussion threads (a list is provided at the bottom of this post) or the general series discussion sticky thread in the forum.

    F.A.Q.
    (updated on an ongoing basis)

-Is The Clone Wars movie included in the Season 1 set in some form?
-No, neither the film nor it's 4 component episodes are included in the set. You'll need to purchase the standalone DVD of the movie to get it.

-Are the episodes in chronological order?
-No. The Clone Wars does eventually take a semi-anthology approach to storytelling, as well as rearranging episodes due to airing considerations. We've been told that the airing order is mostly correct, but that an official episode order will be forthcoming on starwars.com as we move further into Season 2.

There are, however, 3 episodes we know to be out of order: "Downfall of a Droid" & "Duel of the Droids" are set after "The Clone Wars" movie but before the "Rising Malevolence" episode; and "The Hidden Enemy" is a prequel lead-in to "The Clone Wars" movie.

Other episodes may have been shifted around ("Ambush" was originally meant to air after the Malevolence trilogy, but was pushed up to provide a longer series debut, and this placement has seemingly been adopted as it's official placement now) but are unconnected to other episodes and so shouldn't affect your viewing enjoyment.

-Where does this series take place in relation to previous Clone Wars media?
-The exact relationship between the new series has yet to be officially determined, as they are adjusting the Clone Wars timeline of events to accommodate this new series (and changes like Lucas deciding to have Anakin knighted earlier in the war than originally intended). An official revised timeline of events will be released down the road as TCW concludes production and they can look at the whole picture.

We do have some indications to give us a rough concept of how they relate. Anakin is already knighted by time TCW starts and Obi-Wan and Ventress have implied past history, so the show is set after any stories featuring Anakin as a Padawan (this includes the first Volume of the 2D Clone Wars animated series, as well as several comics, novels and video games) and after most (if not all) past encounters between Obi-Wan and Ventress in the comics.

I just got the DVD box set along with TFU: Ultimate Sith Edition for PS3. The art book included in it is very very beautiful. Lots of great concept images. Starting to watch it now.

A very nice set- the concept art in the middle was a great touch. The extended featurettes are nice so far (I've only watched the first 2- Dave recalling his debate with Lucas over Plo in space versus Grievous in space was hilarious!). Though I guess we don't get the exact commentary videos that were on SW.com, though a lot of the same subject matter is covered.

Nice to have the Director's Cuts of these episodes- though I'm hard pressed to ID the differences in Shadow of Malevolence, unless it was Anakin and Ahsoka discussion in the cockpit.

The aspect ratio is also a huge improvement- they look gorgeous in full widescreen (I think Garth posted a couple before and after examples in the earlier thread).

Another good featurette moment where Henry is talking Han in ANh talking about needing a navicomputer so they don't "fly through a star or come out in the middle of a planet or something or come out and hit a planet.".

Then Dave just quietly adds the correction of "...supernova."

Dave earns another geek point ;)

Just a heads up. It appears that Best Buy does not have the Blu-Ray in stock yet. Checked in Orange, Riverside & LA Counties (California) as well as selected New York, Chicago & Florida stores and none show it available. The store manager here in Irvine, CA checked his computer as well and while they did have the DVD, he was very surprised that he couldn't find a store anywhere that had the Blu-Ray.

you're not the only one that got skunked! I actually got an email that said my order would be ready for pickup on Nov. 3rd. So, I went in there today and was told that they didn't get it and that it was a chain wide problem. Not only did none of the 6 stores in my city have it, but none of the stores in the country have it. They had the SD DVD on the shelf, but no Blu-Ray. I'm kind of mad right now.

Where is everyone else finding these Blu-Ray sets at? If I didn't get such a good deal through Best Buy's website, I'd be half tempted to cancel my order and pick it up at Wal-Mart; however, I think it'll pay to be patient.

I don't have an HDTV so no reason for me to get a Blu-Ray player yet. The DVD set is fine with me. Plus, it'll be easier to rip images from to use for banners ;)

What's the soundtrack on the DVD? Is it both Dolby Digital and DTS or just DTS? Many people will want to get this set, but to tell them you can get it only if your equipment can decode DTS would be silly.

Okay, I found an Easter Egg in the Jedi Temple Archives. I was on the page with the Ahsoka turntable art and I clicked the Jedi Logo (the design Obi-Wan and Anakin have on their shoulder armor) in the upper right hand corner, and I got a feature about the voices of the Clone Wars where Dave Filoni messes with the voice actor who plays Obi-Wan as he makes fun of Dave's writing (it was basically a blank page with a couple a dots).

It's not hard to find, it's very clickable. You can access it from any part of the Jedi Archives interface. But I stumbled upon it while trying to get back to the main menu.

Yeah I think that's the only Easter Egg on Disc 1; I changed episode in the Temple and clicked on that button each time and it was the same video... hope there are more to be found.

Just got it! Ordered via Amazon.com yesterday afternoon and it arrived at 6pm today.. and that was with free shipping (average 5-9 days)! Love the behind the scenes bits, does the same job as a commentary but with less chit-chat. The ForceCast offers enough "commentary" in round tables and interviews, so I don't miss the audio commentaries. Booklet DVD cases are the way to go! Last year's Target exclusive Kingdom of the Crystal Skull dvd book made me fall in love with the idea. I don't miss the Blu-Ray features, as I'm more interested in the episodes and commentary than simple model turntables and rough scenes.

I'm currently importing episodes to play with them in Final Cut. Malevolence the movie, perhaps? :D

Just my two cents with the whole Blu-ray fiasco: yesterday, I checked two Best Buys and three Targets in the Boise area with no luck. When I had pretty much given up, I hit one of the five local Wal-Marts and found the Blu-ray set, but only 4 copies, for $44.88. I grabbed that and went on my way. Today I was hunting for some DC Universe Wal-Mart exclusive and Target Exclusive figures and decided to check for grins. I found that the one Wal-Mart that I got my set in was now sold out and that none of the other four here even got it in. The three Targets hadn't gotten it overnight either. I called around town to the rest of the stores that I could think of that sell Blu-ray and it appears that the four I found at the one Wal-Mart were the only ones available over the last couple of days. Most have no idea when they'll actually be getting it. I'm curious as to what's going on now.

I have a question about aspect ratio. Is the DVD full-frame and only the Blu-ray in widescreen? Because every online retailer I've checked (Amazon.ca, Futureshop.ca, Bestbuy.ca) is saying that the aspect ratio is "full frame" or "1.33:1". Is this true or is it a mistake? Is there a full-frame version that I need to be aware of to avoid when looking for the DVD?

Besides the definition difference, there is nothing to avoid video-wise in the standard DVD set. It is anamorphic widescreen 1.33:1 just as the Clone Wars movie release was. Nothing to fear, there is no full frame release.

It's 2.40:1 anamorphic widescreen. The broadcast versions were 1.78:1 widescreen. No 1.33:1 version exists.
