Pretty cool. More plot oriented this time out. But still very cinematic. I hope the Wachowskis score a home run.
I have not been this excited for a movie since ROTS. The book is my second or third favorite novel. The Wachowskis are my favorite directors. This is going to be awesome!
Well, there have actually been some relatively positive reviews of this movie. The review trend leans toward an ambitious, lavish spectacle that serves in part as an ode to film-making itself, much like Hugo, but comes across as a bit heavy-handed and fails to deliver a satisfying narrative across all the parts it attempts to juggle. I love the book, but I'm wary about it falling into the hands of the Wachowski bros. We know they don't have a problem with large-scale visuals. Tom Tykwer has directed some interesting movies. Lola Rennt is so much fun. Perfume: The Story of a Murderer has the kind of costume drama epic scope that would work for some of the Cloud Atlas plotlines. Still not sure whether to see it, but I'm glad some critics like it.
Saw a bit about this on the Deutsche Welle German News. How it is? Better than the last Wochowski fiascos?
It's long, but unlike some other long movies I have recently watched, not as exhausting. @Koohii: Some critics love it, many others don't. Generally favorable, but not a huge sucess. First base, not home run critically. The film has some gory and disturbing stuff. Not suitable for kids.
Matrix sequels & Speed Racer. Have they done anything else? V for Vendetta was decent, and the first Matrix movie was ok (for a cheezy wire-fu movie)
Haven't read the book, only saw the trailer because someone linked me to it, but ironically Koohii's list reminded me that I haven't actually watched a Wachowski siblings film that I didn't like (Yeah, including the sequels to The Matrix, advance upon me brethren and all that), so I suppose I'll need to see this as well.
I absolutely adored the movie. I need to see it 10 more times, and at least 5 of those times require subtitles of some kind.
Damn I forgot all about it until a weekend where I had way to many errands to run. So, next weekend I shall make a point to see it.
I stand with Ramza. I love Wachowski movies. The Matrix, Reloaded, Revolutions and Speed Racer are all great movies that I enjoy more than 95% of all the other movies I've seen. V For Vendetta and Bound were also very good to me.
If you like films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Fountain, Inception, Wachowski films(The Matrix Trilogy, V For Vendetta and Speed Racer) or Tom Tykwer films(Run, Lola, Run and Perfume) then go see Cloud Atlas.
