This is what’s wrong with today’s society.

Hey if you want to form a company based on the way your cat looks more power to you. If people buy the stuff, great for you. I’m glad she can mooch off of people’s attraction for cuteness, and humor. No problem there. But to claim damages from others making fun of her cat by using memes? WOW adjust plain WOW. Get over it. You exposed your cat on the internet. When you did so you, and your cat are open game.

Nope. Don't miss it, either. I tried some SW podcast once. Bathroom humor and no SW content for 1/2 hour of the (what?) three hours of podcast. No thanks.

She didn't get the money for memes. I don't think she minds that. It's what got her cat noticed in the first place. The company that contracted to use the image for marketing had made the deal only for the coffee. They started using the image for other things, too. They didn't have permission for that. That's why she sued and won.

 

Ok slight over reaction to be sure. But what are the damages again?
Copyright laws?
It’s a freaking cat. I’m sure there are thousands of cats that look just like that. So if the company that used the cat, in violation, happened to find one that looked similar, would it still be a violation? Probably not.

Our society should be based on love. It’s not. It’s based on a me first mentality that is only compounded with frivolous law suits like this and the hunger for more money

 

True dat. They'd have to find another "grumpy cat" first, though.

I think the ridicule belongs to the company. They said they would only use the image for the coffee. As soon as they found out they'd messed up, they should have paid up. It should never have gone to trial.

It's like that McDonald's coffee lawsuit from the '90s. The woman, at first, only asked for an apology. That's it. It escalated to the point that that Starbuck's cup in front of you now has a warning.

on a lighter note they live here in arizona. i went to a car show a couple years ago and there was a corvette with a license plate reference to grumpy cat and it was worded in a way i suspected it might be the cats owner.

I watched a Pete's Dragon doubleheader today: the original 1977 musical version, and the 2016 non-musical remake.

 

LOVED the '77 version, how's the remake?

 

It's good. It's a lot different from the '77 version. First, as I mentioned, it's not a musical. Second, they scrapped the abusive guardians and quack doctor villains and instead had an ambitious lumber/mill worker (Karl Urban).

 

What a last name. Urban. It’s like having the last name City.

Which is a better service for streaming movies on Roku or Apple TV?

 

I use Amazon, Netflix and Hulu. Quite happy with them and I save tons of money over cable.
