    That was a great series of games from the BCS. Probably the best package the system ever threw together.

    Texas booster Red McCombs bashes Charlie Strong hire to media

    McCombs was a terrible owner, but did employ Dennis Green as his head coach when he was owner of the Vikings, so I doubt this is racially motivated. However, he's about as delusional as they come- first he lobbied for Saban, next for Jon Gruden. This outburst appears to be a result of a "rushed" hire that did not lead to either of his two chosen candidates accepting the job. Alas, there would be minimal benefit for either Saban or Gruden to leave their current job and inherit a fairly mediocre situation (by Alabama or NFL standards) in Texas.

    Louisville is interviewing Bobby Petrino to return as head football coach. I don't think much of the guy, but he won there- might not be a terrible move, as long as there are parameters in place to prevent Louisville from getting burned, or thrown from a motorcycle.

    Bobby Petrino now has an offer from Louisville to become their head coach, and is expected to return. That is stunning- good for him, though. Always good to see someone rebound from rock bottom, I'm sure he's learned a lot.

    Normally I would consider infidelity a personal matter, but it did spill over into his professional life in some ways that would give me pause if I were a university president. If I were a parent I wouldn't want my child associated with him that's for sure. And then there's his conduct with the Atlanta Falcons, which was the definition of unprofessional. As you can tell I don't think very highly of Petrino, but I believe in second chances because I've needed them my self. I think we all have. Not sure a one year stint with Western Kentucky exactly qualifies as a redemptive journey, but...
