    Fat Lips lol

Gonna type up the breakdowns here in a moment. But you know, after taking a long look at what we have so far (and what's still out there), I gotta say, I think I agree with Yak. This list, these characters. It's just way too much. Too much planet-busting and galaxy-shaking going on here. I probably wanted Thanos back on the list more than anyone, but this is pretty absurd, especially with just 8 teams totals. It wouldn't be quite so bad if we could have scrounged up 16 GMs like in the good ol' days, but even then...

It just doesn't really promote any kind of strategic team-building and cohesion may as well be pointless. Just swing for the fences each round with what you think is the most powerful pick and hope to win a Rocky style slugfest with the other GMs that did the same. Eh. Not a fan in retrospect.

It definitely does feel like overkill ... Like I have an entire team of first rounders. Kind of silly

Well yeah and we have been down this road SO many times.
Solution - We can add GMs to thin the power of these teams out. Problem - too many people, draft drags on, people lose interest, plus people still can draft poorly and not be able to compete regardless of the level of power on the list.
Solution - we can strip the list of upper level uber powers (Thanos, Darkseid, Onslaught, etc) Problem - draft gets boring seeing the same things over and over, (Thor vs Superman anyone), it's nice to see fresh faces. With new picks added with such power common draft prep staples for us like the Dooms, IMs, Richards, Cables, Stryfes, Blinks, etc, may JUST be making the cut instead of getting gobbled up round 2-5.
Solution - we can add a power list limiting the number of crazy powerful picks made overall Problem - People still draft terribly, and A LOT of great picks are left un-drafted, plus where is the cut off? Looking at previous power lists the vast separation of power level from say Onslaught to General Zod is ridiculous.

Not sure if this Wang is a sock of some kind or if they are actually new but I have been in drafts and always drafted 'cohesively' for the most part but it never seemed to matter. If you draft an all villain squad someone will cry foul about them not working cohesively because they all want to lead and in fighting etc, so naturally hero squads should win even though Hero squads need to always act as a unit to beat ONE villain because they are so powerful. Makes no real sense, but then again these things never do.

When we started these lists were ridiculous, like Glactus-Thanos-Franklin Richards-Onslaught-Imperiex-Phoenix, etc on-the-list-ridiculous and it has been whittled down ever since. The more powerful the top picks the shallower the reach picks down the list goes, so we made other drafts to incorporate the never drafted, always left on the list cool 'Average Joes' we know and love. The more we cut the top tier power off the further down we go to get picks. It is just a cycle.

No matter what we do we can't please everyone, hence why we change the drafting style every so often. We do a pretty good job of shaking things up, different commissioners and judges affect each draft differently, from the start to the drafting to the matches to the close. The point of these things, to me anyway, was to have a good time imagining and discussing arena battles that wouldn't have a snow balls chance of actually ever happening in comics today. What's it matter if you go to teams and UBER PICK #1 wipes out half the turd bricks on the other team in the opening moments of the match while UBER PICK #2 does the same?

Sorry for the TL;DR probably should have gone in the discussion thread but whatever

I for one enjoy an all-powerful draft, yes it takes away from the cohesiveness of hero & villian squads but this all for entertainment.

All the tinkering with this system reminds me of the BCS in college football; it'll never perfect across the board. I'm all for keeping the top-tier talent in!

    also... list update anyone?

my 2 cents on the power of draft lists is maybe having everything broken up. like instead of just a power list, you have a mid power list as well. you have two picks from the top end power list, four from the mid, and then four from the bottom. that way you still have to think about everything, but you also still have those fun characters around that could shelack everything as well. but everyone ultimately does matter. so what if people can still draft poorly, since when is drafting about holding people's hands and making sure that they do well? that's never been the case in any draft i've been in. the people that know what they're doing will do well, the people that draft poorly will either learn, go home, or... just keep drafting poorly i guess. i don't see why that particularly matters one way or the other.

    EDIT

oh. thanks luigi, did it before i could even ask. although you're missing the last three picks on there.

I still like the tier system I mentioned in the discussion thread.

Have 3 tiers. 4 picks from each tier. 1 character benched from each tier. 2 preparation times, 1 for each of the lower tiers.

The characters from each tier have to fight other characters from that tier only.

That keeps powerful people in, but makes the less powerful characters viable for play.

Batman, Deadpool, Taskmaster, etc. These are all really fun characters but they have no place in this draft from what I see. That is unfortunate, and correctable.

    I almost forgot.

I couldn't see him beating more than 3 to 4 people picked through the first 4 rounds, mostly the ones picked in round 4&5, and I would question even those.

Well that was ironic, huh Batman? Clearly Amatsu hasn't been introduced to this places man love of the Bat. You'll find that quite a few people here believe that certain prepped characters are gods. Batman is certainly one of them, not the best of the prepsters though, not by a long shot. Personally I don't see him beating anyone drafted thus far, maybe the supers if you wanna be sillystupid about his ring or table tossing Apoc? I don't see him getting much going in THIS draft.

I don't see how the tier draft system would fix the problem of power. Against certian teams single characters could be team busters. A prepped Cable vs no TP/TK resistant team takes a win solo. Should we axe (and not the spray) him? Like I said if we keep trimming off the top making a new top tier list every draft eventually the best picks are going to be... Hawkman or something stupid.

Look - I'm not saying this kind of draft isn't fun. It's just a bit silly, is all. It's like when you play NCAA Football and get to year 5 of your dynasty and have back-to-back-to-back-to-back #1 recruiting classes. And none of them are busts because it's a video game. Yeah, it's fun to play that season and have the top three candidates for the Heisman. But it's a different kind of fun than playing with a middle-tier Big Ten team and trying to win a National Title.

Also - I was one of those in favor of a PL, but I'm not so sure. I'm also pretty sure I wouldn't want three tiered lists. That seems like a lot of work, a lot of hand holding, and some seriously bad discussion on who belongs on each tier.

How about each draft, we drop everyone picked in the top two- or four-rounds of the previous draft? Then we don't add them back in until we reach a point where no one is happy with how underpowered the draft list is? Maybe 5-6 drafts? Then every 6th draft is way over powered, every 6th draft is way underpowered, and 2/3rds of all drafts are in the middle.

But - that's discussion for after this draft, right? We need to finish this one out and see who has the best over-stacked team in the multiverse.

I should note that this is exactly why I wanted to start so fast. No one ever talks about anything until the draft has already started, so I figured once we got going everyone would express their opinions, and so they have.

Nick Saban would disagree with you on those back-to-back-to-back recruiting classes.

How about we just drop everyone that's not human? Yeah that'll solve everything.
