If 'The Prophecy' told of one who would bring balance to The Force and they believed at the time Anakin was it.... wouldn't that be a strong clue that right then the Force was unbalanced? If the Chosen One has been revealed then The Force would have to be tipped, there would have to have been some form of evil existing to mess things up. That plus the fact of a double ended lightsaber wielding devil man that just tried to kill a jedi and Qui-Gon's hint that 'it may have been a sith' would spark a light. As usual the Jedi are sumarized by the response of Mace that they know all and they would have know. If only they had started to train Anakin then instead of rejecting the future most powerful being in the universe.

after the Maul encounter, they realize that the Sith are present again, but since the Sith work in 2, they didn't know if Maul was the master or apprentice. After Yoda's fight w/ Dooku there is no doubt that the council knows that there are Sith out there, but they failed to realize that Palpatine was the master because he hid it so well.

Right... I know that but their obvious rejection of Anakin and The Prophecy, plus their own arrogance that they know all led them to inaction at first. Imagine if they had actually done more than let Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan go back with the Queen, they would have killed Maul without losing the obviously wisest member of the Jedi plus would have had a head start on not rejecting Anakin at such an early age which was a hugh part in sowing the seeds of hate, rejection, and mistrust that become so evident in ROTS. Therefore the old jedi are simply and fantastically stupid. Except for Qui-Gon.

Plus might I add, that my whole point is as soon as they realized that there was a possibilty of The Prophecy they should have acted and would have disrupt Palpatines plan. His apprentice would have been killed early and even if the rest would have gone as planned Anakin would have trusted the council and seen them as his friend and not his enemy, thereby eleminating the influence of Palpatine. Of course they did something about it when they realised there was something that was going on but by then it's too late.

I completely agree that council made a grave mistake right from the get go with Anakin. Granted Anakins future was clouded, who's isn't? Good point the force reveals Anakin and then a sith who looks like a devil shows up. Duh , how obvious is that. If the council took more concern that the sith were to be defeated, the council leaders and members should have been far more LOVING towards Anakin instead of not trusting him, wich is a path to the darkside according to Yoda himself. Look at everytime Mace Windu refers to Anakin , he calls him boy or something that denotes disrespect for the one who would bring balance to the force and destroy the sith. He wanted Anakin to stay behind , so he could try to fulfill the prophecy? It simply could not be done.

Here's the worst part of it all, if the Jedi are such a brotherhood, why did Anakin have a mentor outside the Jedi order? Why didn't a council member try to befriend Anakin to help guide him, considering he was taken into the order at an older age?

Again mistrust , perhaps even jealousy specifically on the part of Master Windu, lead them all to their destruction. It ultimately was Anakins decision to give himself to the darkside , but it was an easier decision to do as such when the entire council mocked him.
