I'm kinda disappointed that both the 360 and the PS3 will be absurdly expensive; Nintendo's still-codenamed console will probably be the only one with a semi-reasonable pricetag at launch($200-$250 U.S.).

Absurdly expensive? Huh? The NEO GEO was what I would consider "absurdly expensive". The price point for the 360 and PS3 probably won't be much different from the price of a launch PSX, PS2 or Xbox. They will both end up in the predictable 300-350 price tag. OMG! Time to mortgage the house!!11!!!1 :p

I read that the 360 is set to launch at $400, which is expensive considering that it's only a game console. I don't want my Playstation or XBox to be a ******* media center if it's going to up the price. Nintendo has the right idea with keeping an emphasis on games and reasonable price.

Unless the Revolution has a better, more mature library than the GC, I'll take the 360 (or maybe even PS3).

What do you need USB ports on a console for, other than for periphrials that you really don't need?

And three of them? I have four on my computar and only ever used one at a time.

Can you play older XBOX titles on the 360? If so I may pick it up.

More Revolution details: it'll be able to be oriented horizontally or vertically, is no thicker than 3 DVD cases stacked on top on one another & will be using a DVD drive (with likely DVD-9 dual layer support). Hi-def playback capability is also expected.

Why do people still consider $400 to be "expensive" for a new game system? That's pretty much the standard price for just about any newly-launched system. Hell, didn't the old NES, SNES and Genesis go for similar prices way back when? This is the standard deal, so I don't see how anyone can still be surprised by this.

Um- It *is* expensive for a system- only Saturn cost near that much at launch (and is one of several factors that basicly killed that system).

SNES was $130-$150 for the two controllers & Super Mario World package, $99 for the one-controller, no-game "control set", ditto for Genesis.

N64 was between $150-200. Ditto on GCN.

It was PS2 & X-Box that raised the average launch price another $50-$100.

At $400, once you factor in periphrial costs and such, you might as well buy a PC with a DVD drive.

Or, alterntatively, remember alot of people bought a PS2 or XB as a cheap DVD player that just happened to be able to play games. If the systems strat costing so much, people will just buy a seperate DVD player and use the lleft over to get a simple surround sound system.

I heard developers are drooling over the PS3 and aren't so excited about the hardware on the other 2 after seeing how powerful the PS3 is.

No. I'm not a PS fanboy. I just heard that in the EGM rumor mill.

The PSX at launch was $299. The N64 was $250. The Saturn was $399. The Xbox 360 will be $299 for the silver and 360-99 $for the gold. The PS3 will probably end up at $299 aswell.
