I have never read the DNT, but I have read LOTF (which besides a few books wasn't that great) and FOTJ (which is not that great either). I didn't enjoy Denning's books at all except for Invincible so I'm not sure if I'll ever get to this series...

Maybe not, but he can still have someone molest a child.

    Dammit ruined Tahiri.

I loved that girl when Keyes wrote her. :(

Don't forget her affair with the love of her life's Sith Lord older brother.

SMH, the route Tahiri took after NJO was just plain terrible, and clearly no one new what to do with the character. Her story arc was finished, which is why Luceno had the wisdom to have her leave with Zonama Sekot.

I think it is worth reading because of some badass Luke scenes in Swarm War. It's just so darn sad that all that TUF accomplished was pissed on

In and of itself, yes, I think it's worth reading.

But it's also a harbinger of the awfulness that is to come. Pretty much every negative of the trilogy is but a thousandth of what the next 2 series display.

Let me put it this way, the DNT might be worth reading if what came after it hadn't been a complete disaster, but since the rest of the post-NJO was a complete disaster there is really no point.

I think Havac summed it up best somewhere, but I'm too lazy to find it.

I don't think it is worth reading under any circumstances either, which is why I haven't bothered with it or any of the other Denningverse osik.

Well the old canon had Editors at LFL, Del Rey, Dark Horse, no to mention guys like Pablo and Leland who were obstensively in charge of keeping things in order and from contradicting each other (George's work aside).

We all saw how well that worked in recent years.

When you add even more fingers to the 'editorial' pie, there's no way that improves. Especially when each director of a movie will want to put his or her 'stamp' on the franchise. It may not be LOTF levels of Dissociative Identity Disorder for the characters, but it'll still be there as soon as they need "to give maximum creative freedom to the filmmakers and also preserve an element of surprise and discovery for the audience"

Which will be in about 3 movies.

Um, where did you get your hands on Denning's outline? The way I heard it, from an interview, Denning found it so hard to write Jacen's death that he did a draft where Anakin was brought back to life. But I don't think that was actually the plan.

IF YOU THOUGHT KILLING JACEN WAS HARD THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TURNED HIM INTO DARTH IDIOT!

    Frickin' Denning.

This is basically how I feel. By itself - ok, not bad, not great, but functional in an evolution of the Jedi/GA relationship, and potentilally setting up some interesting Unknown Region stories.

    And then we got LOTF...

    The Essential Reader's Companion

Bringing Anakin back is the whole reason why flow-walking was even introduced. It's otherwise wholly incidental to the plot of both Dark Nest and LOTF. Resurrecting Anakin was a solution in search of a problem, and so a problem was contrived. I find it really amusing that it's called "an element designed to offset the otherwise extremely dark fare in the novel." If the novel is so dark you try to resurrect a character to compensate... maybe just tone it down instead? Of course, resurrection rejected, instead we just got the shipwreck in all its glory.

I've heard from other sources even more detail regarding the behind the scenes of LOTF, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share that.

I'll just say that what I've heard is a lot worse than you can possibly imagine.

I think it's pretty easy to accept this on faith, but if you don't believe it that's understandable.

If you can, by all means share. I'm always fascinated by the behind-the-scenes workings of fictional trainwrecks.
