Yeah this is what the Variety article has to say-
So 11 minutes is hardly enough time to develop any sort of plots like JL and JLU did.

But who knows, it could still be fun and good.

What I want to know was who pitched that idea.

That doesn't surprise me, with how the Legion of Super-Heroes wasn't allowed to have black people in it "because it would hurt distribution in the South", and how Krypton had black people, but they were segregated to their own island continent. It's no wonder why Marvel was leading DC in sales by this time, with how racist and anti-progressive DC's editors were.

That was harder to find than I thought it'd be. But here is the only source I found. HERE

    So this Dwayne McDuffie fellow.

...was an African American comic book writer that undoubtedly stole that ridiculous concept if only to LOL at whichever racist DC editor had come up with him in the first place. At least that's the only reasonable explanation I can come up with.

I don't know about that. I could see an African American coming up with the "hey white racist, walk a mile in my shoes! Realised the error of your ways now? I thought so!"

Edit: Which is not to say it's a good idea.

Yeah, I guess I was being generous on my previous post. In reality, one has to wonder what the **** was he thinking.

Well, it was kinda sorta the premise of a Lois Lane story:

I'm certain Marvel has more than a few mummified racist skeletons in their closet as well, but still, ffs DC...

Yeah, I've read some reminisces by John Byrne about a casual, joking racism at the Marvel offices in the '70s, but it never seemed to affect the product they put out.

I've always felt that the title of that story sounded suspiciously like the title of a porn.

If they're mummified, they won't be skeletons.

Also, yes, many entertainment companies have surprisingly racist/sexist/out there pasts. Things have improved massively.

It's pretty much a rule of thumb honestly. 50 years from now people will look back on the stuff out now the same way we look at stuff 50 years before. Just an inevitability.

Brown Bomber was a joke about the infamous Black Bomber concept, and Brian Michael Bendis' obsession with writing Luke Cage, introduced during a Justice League of America run from the 2000s. Brown Bomber is a parody. Black Bomber, the character being described, was proposed circa 1977 (He's the character Black Lightning eventually replaced before the title ever rolled out), notable as being a year when Dwayne McDuffie was 15 and not working in comic books at all.

Edit: Here, you don't even have to take my word for it. Note how this page is not from the 1970s:

Edit 2: Also, while I'm not sure who exactly was responsible for Black Bomber, if I had to guess I'd suspect somewhat infamous editor Murray Boltinoff, who was considered pretty racist even by the standards of the day. For example, he was strongly opposed to any black characters appearing in the Legion of Superheroes, and didn't allow one until the introduction of Tyroc, a radical "racist against white people" black separatist with a disco getup and just ugh, Tyroc. That sounds like his MO.

Given the healing factor, I'd venture he'd consider it worth it.

"What'cha think you're doing, Wade, buddy?"
    "Crackin' a joke."
