I was just about to post that. Yeah, there's been hints since OYL when the Legion reference the middle Crisis.

I finally caught up with Countdown. Question:

What happened to Flash? I assume it was in a Flash book, which I probably won't read, so just tell me

Bart Allen was beaten to death by the Rogues after Inertia stole his Speed Force.

Essentially what happened is that Inertia had a machine which would take the Speed Force from Bart, leaving him vulnerable. Bart had to fight all of the Rogues and Inertia. Without the Speed Force, he couldn't take them all out and Bart was beaten badly by all the Rogues save for Pied Piper and Trickester, who held back. The machine was shut off, but it was too late. Bart couldn't access the Speed Force to accelerate his healing and he died in front of Iris and Valerie Perez.

Meanwhile, the JLA and the JSA were in hot pursuit of several members of the Legion of Super-Heroes who had shown up. The Legion members led by Karate Kid and Starman were travelling to several key places across the US. Places that Batman recognized as where Barry Allen used to operate as the Flash. Superman recognized their plan as being similar to when he and the Leigon attempted to resurrect Lightning Lad, years earlier. However, Wally and his family were brought back from where they had been since taking Superboy-Prime away during the Crisis. The Speed Force was no longer in Bart and Wally was able to tap into it again. As did Jay Garrick and Jessie Quick.

Later, Wally went after Inertia while Piper and Trickster are on the run. But they're about to make their way to where all of the other DCU villians are. However, Karate Kid and Una along with Starman have stayed behind. Brainiac 5 has, meanwhile revealed that despite the plan not going accordingly, they did get what they wanted. Wally's return was an unexpected side effect.

Countdown started off very weakly, but it's starting to grow on me as we go along here. Piper and Trickster espicially make me laugh to no end.

"52" was about a world without the big three and how we get to focus on the missing year with characters who haven't had their own title or really been spotlighted in a while. "Countdown To Final Crisis" is essentially that. It's DiDio's way of showing us what a shared universe is supposed to look like. It's not perfect, but you get the general idea.

As to missing that Granny was behind "Amazon's Attack", there was a clue in the second "Countdown" teaser and the one sheet house ad from back in April/May. Then there's issue twenty one's cover.

I've noticed something. I think many others have, but bear with me while I do this for those who didn't pick up. Have you noticed that right now, nearly all of the villians from almost all of the DCU's big events have been showing up lately?

-The Anti-Monitor: Crisis On Infinite Earths, now seen in The Sinestro Corps War.

-Darkseid: Legends and Genesis is in Countdown, Torment and Death Of The New Gods.

-The Zamoreans and the Manhunters: Millenium, now in the three major GL arcs since OYL.

-Parallax: Zero Hour and now in Sinestro Corps War.

-Monarch: Armageddon 2001 and now in Countdown.

-Superboy-Prime: Infinite Crisis and now in SCW.

-Eclipso: Eclipso-The Darkness Within and now in Countdown.

-Circe: War Of The Gods and has been seen a lot in the pages of Wonder Woman.

All that's missing is Neron, Imperiex, Solaris, the Parasites from Bloodlines and a Sun Eater. Though the latter two were seen in JLA/Hitman as a flashback and an issue of Action Comics.

I wonder if this is intentional or not.

Well Final Crisis is being written by Grant Morrison. and he is the one bastard crazy enough to have all of these somehow related.

Good observations sinister. I've been getting the jist that Darkseid is behind everything, especially after Amazons Attack. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he is being manipulated by someone else.

Really rather have someone like him be the villian. Introducing another threat will kill this series.

Also Neron was in 52 and he was just mentioned in Countdown as having escaped from the tower Dibny trapped him in, IIRC.

Actually, I was refering to the fact that since Countdown started, all of these DCU villians who were the main ones in these arcs have been getting the spotlight in the DCU as a whole. And from the looks of things, they will all most likely play a role in Final Crisis. I don't count Neron being in 52 as a central villian. A villian, but not the central one. Like with Lex and Intergang. I consider Black Adam as the main "villian", because he causes World War III. He goes from the gray figure to hero to gray figure. Neron I would count if he was to appear as a central type villian in Countdown or some other DC book. Black Adam has his mini-series and we've seen Mary Marvel with the Black Adam power or a close proximation of it, which takes place afterwards.

Anyway, it seems to me that DC could be heading towards a big wrap-up of the last twenty years. That Morrison and company could be tying all these threads together, in some manner.

Nope. Turns out when the Multiverse was reborn, so was the Anti-Monitor. And there is only one of him, but 52 Monitors. He's working with the Sinestro Corps, Superboy-Prime, Parallax, the Manhunters and the Cyborg Superman to destroy the Multiverse.

In "Infinite Crisis", Alexander Luthor attempted to recreate the Multiverse in order to find the perfect Earth, which is Earth-Prime. His plans were foiled by Superboy, Nightwing and Wonder Girl. Superboy and Superboy-Prime destroyed Alexander's tower, which focused his powers and caused the Multiverse to collapse in on itself, back into one Earth known as New Earth. The excess energies used by Alexander proved to be too much and 52 Earths began to emerge, each with their own take. Identified so far are the following.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multiverse_%28DC_Comics%29#52

"Final Crisis" is a story in which many events will peak.

-The Death Of The New Gods.
    -The Great Disaster.
    -Monarch's army.
    -Amazons Attack.
    -Mary Marvel going bad.
    -Salvation Run.
    -Jimmy Olsen's wonky powers.
