    ****

"How could he be this stupid? He knows better! We all taught that boy to know
    better!"

Yoda observed the young Jedi Master stalking the floor of the ruined Jedi Temple,
upon watching the security tapes of young Skywalker killing so many innocent Jedi,
mere hours ago. The man was enraged beyond anything Yoda had seen in some
years. But he was also a very broken man. He loved Anakin like a brother and son.
And to witness the boy do something like this... Yoda took pity of the man before
    him.

But Anakin was not the same he was. He was not the innocent young slave from
Tatooine that Obi-Wan knew so long ago. This, Anakin, was dead as the cold air on
Tatooine when the suns beamed at day break.

All that was left of the young man was a young woman named Padme, and the
unborn Jedi she carried within her womb. Yoda had known many weeks now of the
Naboo Senator's pregnancy, but took careful guard of that information, given that
her husband was often absent, leaving her in the open to the Dark Forces that still
    intended the Jedi harm.

A Jedi mother would even need protection against the Dark Forces of the Sith. A
helpless mother with no knowledge of the Force that surrounded her, needed all the
protection that she could have in this desperate time.

Obi-Wan needed to be the one that went on. The one Jedi that the young mother
might still trust. He must defeat Anakin. No matter what the cost.

So those young unborn Jedi would live on.

Yoda could feel the power of those two children. Both were as powerful as Anakin.
But such power needed the right guidance from the very beginning. That meant that
the mistakes with Anakin would not be made again.

Those Jedi twins were the second chance not only for Obi-Wan Kenobi. But the
    entire galaxy.

Anakin needed to be defeated. Yes.

But Padme had to be removed from sight and fast.

Much danger surrounded the young Senator. Obi-Wan could take her to Alderaan
to hide in one of the provinces until the children were born.

    Himself, would see to Anakin.

"Go to the Senator of Naboo's apartment, you must!"

"What?" Obi-Wan looked at the Jedi master between shock and worry. "I should
find Anakin and destroy him. That is what I should do. But... my heart breaks at the
mere thought. I don't think that I can do it."

"Worry about that, I will. Do what you can, Obi-Wan. Save Anakin's family, you
    will!"

    "How?"

Obi-Wan rubbed at his eyes which were filled with tears. His voice broke and sobs
    heaved his heavy chest.

"Take the Senator to Alderaan. Hide, and wait there! Hurry, I will! Do what I can, I
    will!"

"She will not leave Anakin, master. She won't believe my words. I don't even believe
    them myself."

"Leave him, she must! Do what you must, Obi-Wan. What ever you must, to save
those Jedi children. Three Dark Lords, like Vader, need, we do not!"

"I will try my best, master. I cannot promise such a thing. Not when I've failed so
    with Anakin."

"Fail, you will not! Fail, if you do, then take the Jedi from her, I will. It is the least we
can do now. The least we must, Obi-Wan."

"Yes, Master Yoda. I will... I will take Padme to Alderaan. No matter what I must
    do!"

    Very interesting start.

I'm impressed Yoda is thinking of protecting Padme and the twins at all costs and I have no doubt he can handle Anakin but how in the world is Obi-Wan going to get her to Alderaan? [face_thinking]

    I'm looking forward to more,

Padme stood at the windows of her apartment on Coruscant. The night seemed to whisper the dark secrets of her husband to her. It played like a musical tune of death within her heart. He was doing things that a Jedi shouldn't do. That any man shouldn't do. All in hope to keep her and their unborn children safe.

Their very union was against the Jedi code. Manipulating the Order itself was against the Jedi code. Especially to serve yourself above all others.

What was becoming of her Anakin?

He told her to stay here. Not to worry. He'd take care of everything for them. Then she could go to the Lake country on Naboo to be with her family if she wanted. He'd join her there as soon as his duties allowed himself too.

But what duties? The Council had him on no special assignment right now. Not since he'd return to Coruscant with Obi-Wan with the Chancellor.

Anakin would give her no answers.

    None that she needed anyway.

    "Don't worry, my love."

Those words whispered inside her mind. She still didn't feel any better.

    Danger was coming.

And it was going to change everything, forever.

She could feel it in her bones.

    So she waited.

    ***

A lone Jedi Knight stood watching the Senatorial apartment building.

His hood was high. You couldn't see his face.

"Go back!" The Force said. "It's still not too late to go back. Join her on her journey to Naboo, and never look back, before you go."

"No." A dark voice replied back. "I can't! I'm not him anymore. The power won't allow it that's inside me. I must finish what I started. I have too!" The dark voice then said, barely a whisper.

"Then you are lost!" The Force said.

"Padme, It's Obi-Wan. Please release the lock on your doors. I must speak with
    you!"

Padme stood on the other side of the doors inside her living room chamber. She
touched her ever growing belly and looked back toward the doors again. If she
allowed the Knight inside, he would know everything. There was no hiding her
nine months old pregnant belly anymore from anyone. Padme had stayed indoors as
often as possible over the last several weeks. Her next trip would be home to
Naboo to get the Lake house ready for the birth of her twins. Anakin would join her
as soon as he could and they'd raise their children far from the public eye.

This morning her medical droid had told her there was two babies instead of one.
Padme had never been more delighted and waited for the chance to tell Anakin he
was going to be the father of twins. They'd have one son and one daughter. Their
birth would make their family complete and they'd never be more happy.

But if Obi-Wan were to see that she was pregnant, he'd guess who the father was.
The only man she had ever been close with in many years was his former apprentice.
They'd had always been together since before the Clone war began, hoping to mask
their relationship as nothing but a mere friendship between two people that had been
    friends in their youth.

But could have all those nightly vanishing acts from the Temple go unnoticed from
every Jedi there for so long? Especially Anakin's own master? The answer was no.

They were kidding themselves to think it could continue like this.

Padme allowed Obi-Wan to enter her apartment.

    "Hello, Obi-Wan."

Padme felt her heart leap and a hand went to her chest. The master Jedi looked so
broken. His once life filled blue eyes stared back at her with merely a shadow of
what they once were. She wrapped her arms around him, not knowing what else to
do as the Jedi master fell to his knee's before her and wept.

"Obi-Wan?" Padme cried. "What is it? Is it Anakin?"

The Jedi finally gained control again of himself and shook his head. He stood to his
feet and forced himself to met the young woman's worried gaze.

"You must leave here at once, Padme. A sith is on his way to kill you and take your
    baby."

"What? Where's Anakin? I must tell him before I..."

"No. You must come with me to Alderaan. There you'll be safe. You can have your
    baby there in peace."

"But Anakin... I have to tell him where I'm going. He'll be worried about me."

"I've already told Anakin. He'll meet us there, Padme. Let us go. Now."

    ".. All right..."

Padme looked around the room once more before leaving with Obi-Wan to
Alderaan. It would be a last good-bye.

    Alderaan still was beautiful.
There was a terrible war going on and this place seemed untouched by the rest of the
galaxy. Perhaps this place would be good enough to have her children here in safety
and secrecy. When they got older, they could return to Naboo, and take new
names. Padme could let her family know that she was all right.

"This place is Bail's. We're in the Ona province. He hasn't lived here since before he
married the Queen. No one will think to look here. When Bail last lived here, he was
    a very young man."

Padme forced a smile and stepped out onto the taris. You could see a valley of
flowers by a lake as the view. The sun was bright in the purple sky. The sunlight
came from the distance. The sun was beaming off the mountains in the far east. They
    had snow on their tops.

Alderaan was simply breathtaking. Padme could picture her daughter playing in the
snow. Telling her brother it was so much fun...

"They'll be all right, Padme. You'll birth two beautiful children. They'll both be strong
with the Force like Anakin. They'll use their abilities to do great good in the galaxy...
Obi-Wan trailed off when his voice threatened to break. He could give her no father
cause to believe something had happened to her husband.

"I don't want them to be Jedi, Obi-Wan. It's much too dangerous. I saw the
holo-news. I know there was an attack on the Temple. We've gone in hiding...
haven't we? The beast who murdered all the Jedi on Coruscant is coming for my
babies next! So please, no more lies, Obi-Wan. Tell me where my husband is!"

    "...Padme... I cannot..."

"I thought you were my friend! I thought you were Anakin's friend!"

At her rising anger Obi-Wan couldn't help but respond.

"A sith lord named Darth Vader... murdered Anakin... like he killed all the others. I
took you here because I know he'd want you to be safe. I know he'd want me to
save the only family he has in the universe. And I will protect you, my lady. I will
protect your children. No matter what I must do!"

Obi-Wan then left her to mourn her husband.

    ***

It was evening on Alderaan when Obi-Wan returned to check on Padme. She had
been sobbing loudly as he had left her that morning. As much as he saught to give her
comfort, he had found himself not able to do it in the least. His own heart was much
too broken over the loss of the boy he had known. Looking Anakin's bride in the
face was like being reminded of what Anakin had been meant to be. A simple man.
A man who had a beautiful wife who had adored him and the young father of two
children that would be arriving any moment.

Anakin had also been the Chosen One as well. What the Jedi hadn't known however
was that the Chosen One would never become a real Jedi. He would rise brightly,
    then fall to the Sith.

Obi-Wan then considered the lie he told Padme. He had said that Anakin had been
murdered by Darth Vader. It was the truth, and it wasn't. It wasn't everything that
Padme had a right to know. But she was too bright to believe anything else.

Perhaps, one day, Obi-Wan would tell her the truth. Then she could tell the children.
Make them see that Anakin had been a good man in his heart once.

    "Padme?"

He found her apartment rooms in darkness.

There was a light coming from her bedroom chamber.

"Padme, are you all right?" He shouted.

When there was no answer, he opened the doors to see her two droids standing in
the room. The golden droid was standing guard of the bed. The little droid was
watching two small cribs that stood in the corner that over looked the gardens
outside. Faint cooing could be heard. Another baby was crying softly. It was as if the
child wrapped in a blue blanket was attempting to comfort the child placed carefully
in white blankets beside it's crib.

Obi-Wan turned to see Padme on the bed. She was looking at him. Her face so
lovely and peaceful. But her eyes were closed and very dead.

"She died during the high hour, master Kenobi. There was noth

The death of Padme had been his ruin.
He had been in love with the wife of his brother... his best friend in the galaxy. If Anakin had ever discovered how he had felt about Padme before Anakin had reconnected with her firstly and fallen in love, Obi-Wan had always wondered the boy's reaction.

Would he have stepped aside and stayed on the right path? Would he have approved of his master having just a piece of happiness and a real life and a real family? Even if that had been with the one girl and then woman, Anakin had always loved?

So many questions and all were meaningless now.

Anakin had fallen for Padme again.

    They had married.

They had two tiny children that now had no parents and were completely Obi-Wan's responsibility with Padme's passing in this strange place. The girl opened her dark eyes and looked up at him from her crib. Her face was such the picture of perfect beauty and innocence.

Could a child so young really see him with such new eyes? An average child... no. It would be some time before she ever could. But this child... Obi-Wan could feel her watching him with wonder and hope. The baby was now calm in his presence. The boy had been taken to the Palace Medical Wing to help him sleep. He had not ever stopped his cries since Padme died and needed help to finally sleep. Bail had promised him that the boy would be safe when he had called him to make arrangements and taken to the Palace in secrecy when people had came for Padme's body.

Obi-Wan wanted Padme returned to Naboo and considered making arrangements to include the children in the flight. The Naberries didn't need to know about them. They could be placed in an orphanage in the city...

No. That would still be too dangerous. The Jedi babies together could call out to Anakin and then he would come to Naboo for them and no one would be there to protect the twins from the fate their father would force them to have.

Obi-Wan wasn't certain what he'd do next. But he would leave Leia and Luke here on Alderaan under the protection of the Palace for the time being, while he escorted Padme's body to Naboo and then he would try to seek out Yoda once more before facing Anakin.
