Chyntuck: Thank you for your thoughtful comments, Chyntuck. Qui/Obi and Lens are some of my old standards. I lvoe writing them. It's the humorous banter. As for Jasmine, she is new for this Drabble challenge. Sadly, there is no other material for her at the moment. I knew from the start that she would be a grey character, one tormented by her decisions. Where that leads her from here is anyone's guest. I am always open to mini challenges if one strikes you. Thanks again.

WarmNyota_SweetAyesha: Thank you, Nyota. I appreciate your regular support. With 'Dream', Lens is suffer the consequences of have a Wookiee for a friend. :p

Mira_Jade: Thank you for coming back, Mira. I'm glad you liked Rain. I even referenced a couple of my drabbles of old. Lens is handful and Zekk is determined to teach him a mental and physical toughness. For his own good of course. O:)

    Week VII - by Mira_Jade

    31. Tangy

Han Solo took a sip of the offered drink and furrowed his brow. He wasn’t quite sure how to describe it, but he was pretty sure he didn’t like it.

“So, what do you think?” Lando asked, eyebrows raised expectantly.

“Not really my thing,” Han replied, setting the glass on the bar. “Too much citrus.”

The business man opened his hands in disbelief. “No such thing as too much citrus, Han.”

“To each their own,” the former smuggler replied. “Is that swill your creation? I know this is your place.”

“I don’t why I even asked you,“ Lando replied, flippantly.

    32. Sweet

Lens Eli needed a plan. Kayla’s birthday as next week and he had not thought of a gift. He didn’t want to go over the top because sometimes she didn’t like that. He didn’t want to undersell either; because who does? He needed something just right; something sweet without any pretense. This would be about her, not about him. Sadly, he needed reminding about that from time to time. Master Zekk suggested something simple, but personal; perhaps making something for her. He also warned against a half-hearted job.

Though art was not his thing, he would paint her beautiful portrait.

    33. Spicy

Lens Eli beamed with pride and excitement as he powered off his data pad. He had just received orders from Master Zekk, which had come directly from the Grandmaster, himself. Luke wanted Lens to pick to pick up a specially tailored tunic which had been created by an old friend. On the face of it, the job was a menial tasked that any initiate could do. But Luke had chosen him. Plus, no initiate would leave the temple without a chaperone. Master Zekk also stated that he would be taking the mission alone. This was going to be so fun.

    34. Bitter

Lando Calrissian sat at the bar hunched over a glass of jisky. His eyes seemed locked on the bottle, half empty, sitting in front of him.

“You thinking about Melody?” asked Han Solo, appearing at his elbow from thin air.

“You know better than to ask me about her, Han,” Lando muttered, in reply. “I made it clear the subject was off limits.”

“Your head is not in the game, Lando,” Han countered. “I can’t afford to have you distracted.”

“What a dilemma for you, Old Buddy.”

“Don’t be like that, Lando. I’m truly concerned.”

    “Concerned for you, I’ll bet.”

    35. Bland

Lens Eli felt his eyes rolling back into their sockets even as he feebly fought against an involuntary unconsciousness. He was already leaning forward in his chair so the distance his cheek travelled to his desk top was minimal. He hoped, as the lights went out, that Master Horn would not hear the impact.

He felt an uncomfortable poke to the top of his head.

There it was again. A third, harder poke pierced his haze.

    “Stop poking me!” Lens moaned.

“Am I boring you, Mr. Eli?” droned Corran Horn.

“Not on purpose, I’m sure,” answered the half conscious initiate.

Lando sure enjoys experimenting drinks. What is it this time? Lime juice?

    Melody?

    Did Kayla like her portrait?

I know exactly what Lens felt during Bland. Happened in lectures all too often.

Tangy & Bitter -- Some great Han/Lando interaction here. They just love and love to hate each other, don't they?

Sweet -- For some undefinable reason, I have a bad feeling about this "beautiful portrait" idea. If Lens isn't into art, and given what I've read about him, this could go all sorts of places...

Spicy -- Ditto. Does this drabble have to do with the idea of Lens going on a mission on his own that you mentioned in another thread?

Bland -- Hahaha. Never answer your teacher when you're not fully aware of your surroundings. It can lead to, ahem, awkward situations.

I love how you chose to interpret the prompts metaphorically rather than literally for this batch :)

Tangy & Bitter - I loved the Han and Lando interaction. There's that familiar teasing and banter, but a real, strong affection between them as well. Of course Han is concerned, and I loved him trying to pick up Lando's spirits a bit in the latter one. [face_love]

Then, it was great to see another great few character sketches of Lens. His earnestness to succeed, even in the 'smallest' of tasks, and his wanting to get a gift full of meaning for Kayla; only, be careful there, mouthing off at teachers when you're not fully conscious. I can only imagine what Corran had to say on that - and Zekk later! [face_laugh][face_laugh]

These continue to be excellent! Keep up the good work. :D =D=

DARTH_MU: thank you for reading, MU. I appreciate you. Melody was the one that got away for Lando. I wrote a drabble series about her a few years back. Kayla is used to Lens' unique forms of expression. So regardless of what he presents, she loves him. Bland is my favorite of the set. Very Lens. I've been there too

WarmNyota_SweetAyesha: thank you, Nyota! I appreciate that you keep coming back. I'm glad you enjoyed those glimpses of Lens.

Chyntuck: Hi Chyntuck! It's good to see you. I would not go so far as to call them frenemies (I know), but they have a unique way of cutting each other to the quick. You are getting to know Lens well. ;) As for Spicy, you are right. I abandoned that story as there is another I would eventually like to tell. I love Bland. It is so Lens.:p I greatly appreciate you comments.

AzureAngel2: Thanks, Azure. Banter, light or heavy, is a hallmark for Han and Lando.

Mira_Jade: Many thanks, Mira. I am lucky to have you. [:D] I have always enjoyed writing Han and Lando. Whether bickering, butch and sundancing, or squirming out of tight spots, they are friends. Loyalty matters, despite that hiccup at Bespin. :p

    Week VIII - by Briannakin

    36. Rebellion

Corran Horn, not one to be disrespected, but also not one to lose his cool… often, raised his student from his seat by the neck hem of this tunic. He escorted the boy to front of the class and advised him straighten his uniform.

"Now, Lens," the Jedi Master began, "Since it is clear that your interest in the subject is so high, I would like you to name the members of the Jedi Council in the year the Great Jedi Purge began?"

Lens furrowed his brow in thought as the other initiates watched him closely.

    And their species," Horn added.

    37. Revolution

“I think I understand you, now, Lens,” said his Master. “You don’t like the hard work.”

“Yes, Master,” Lens replied. “I would prefer a more balanced approach to my training.”

“Yet you keep asking me for more physically demanding work?”

“I absolutely do not. What are you talking about, Master?”

“The more lack of responsibility you show, the more challenging I must become.”

“Lack of responsibility is relative, Master,” Lens replied. “There are degrees.”

“You are right, Lens. There are degrees you should have mastered by now. I am disappointed. Fifty revolutions at the Temple track. Starting now.”

    38. Freedom

Lens darted from his last class of the semester like a bolt from a blaster. Ben, Shorty, Kayla, and Jysella followed at a leisurely pace.

“School’s…out...for...ever!” Lens chanted, turning back toward his friends, even as he bounced up and down, raising hands above his head for emphasis.
“No, it’s not, you clown,” declared Jysella, his dearest nemesis.

“Can’t rain on my parade, Jys,” the blond initiate replied. “I’m living in the now, not the next month.”

[Sounds good to me], Shorty mewled. [Better to embrace the freedom while we have it].

“That’s my man!” Lens exclaimed, pointing excitedly. “Er, Wookiee.”

    39. Martyr

    AU Diversion

Lens Eli was not old enough to marry, but he was old enough to die for his crimes. This was Salem, after all, and the strange giftedness he had been cursed with was enough to cause his fiery death warrant. He stood stock still, tied to a post, as kindling of all shapes and sizes were laid at his feet. Chopped wood, brambles, wet and dry leaves, broken chairs, and all sorts of paper would be employed to speed him to death. Sadly, his gift was not powerful enough to save him. He stood stoically resolute as the torches approached.

    40. Veteran

    AU Diversion

Ben Skywalker, Lens Eli, and Shorty Wookery stood on the beach searching the empty horizon for hope. There were nearly 400,000 men who had been driven to the sea by a haunting, lurching enemy that would devour them if no miracle showed itself. Emotions ebbed and flowed from hope to despair as the enemy drew closer and the vastness of the ocean stared them in the face. The enemy’s planes strafed the men periodically bringing hopelessness to the fore. Ben peered once more over the deep and drew in sharp breath as he saw dark pin pricks in the distance.

    W00t, more Lens!

Rebellion Revolution and Freedom: Young Lens is such a little rascal, and a mouthy one at that :p I can just imagine Corran Horn being driven mad by his pupil, who seems to take a very special pleasure in not being what the teacher wants him to be.

Martyr: Now this was different, very different... and very sad. This is truly another version of Lens we're seeing here -- the prankster is gone, the Jedi remains :_|

DARTH_MU: Thanks for reading, MU! I'm glad you're enjoying Lens. I had fun with the AU diversions. You will probably see more. With the haunting, lurching, it was not hard to image that Zombies were chasing these soldiers.

WarmNyota_SweetAyesha: Hi Nyota! Lens is a work in progress, as are we all. He will learn. But writing his mischievous nature is fun.

Chyntuck: I appreciate your reading and reviewwing, Chyntuck. Lens is my staple OC! when all others fall away, there is still Lens. Rascal is the perfect word for Lens. Lens' Salem fate was sad. I almost wrote Ben coming to his rescue. I will be seeing Dunkirk tomorrow night, but it is the influence for sure.

AzureAngel2: Thank you, Azure for staying with me. I appreciate it. Martyr was my favorite of this set. Freedom was second.

    Week IX - by mavjade

    41. Bright

“Look on the bright side, Lens,” said Zekk, cheekily. “At least now you don’t have to face the music.”

“Which music is that, Master,” his apprentice replied.

“The music of Miss Kayla Bix finding out what you did.”

“But, my heart was pure, Master,” Lens protested. “My intention was to show her how much I care!”

“I can’t let that happen, Lens,” the elder Jedi said firmly.

“You don’t think she will like it?”

Zekk pursed his lips in thought. “I think she will say kind words to your face and then find the first way to accidentally destroy it.”

    42. Star

Jasmine Kinodai wept bitterly as she sat in a secluded stairwell not far from The Salty Spacer. Despite her apathetic defenses, the cantina girl was not holding up well in the wake of her choices. It was bad enough that every time she looked at the seat where Dink would sit, but it was the woman who came looking for him who destroyed Jasmine’s denial.

She said her name was Frinsin Jakobi; that she was the daughter of the clone known as Dink. She had tracked him to this system, but had been delayed in getting here by Imperial inspections.

    43. Mama

Jasmine thought of her own father, dead now three years. As wide as the galaxy was, it was not small enough to save him from disease. Her mother had endured the sickness, only to be caught in the crossfire of rival smuggling cartels.

She never considered Dink more than sad, old clone, with no family and no reason to keep living. How shameful. How callous. How heartless. But that was who she was; a woman who did not have the courage to tell Frinsin that her father was likely killed or captured by the very Imps who searched her ship.

    44. Please

The following day, Frinsin entered the cantina and approached the bar. Her eyes were cold and set and her questions shifted from investigative to interrogatory.

“I don’t think you told me the whole truth, yesterday,” Frinsin began, as she gracefully took her father’s seat.

“How is that?” Jasmine replied, a defensive edge lacing tone. “There wasn’t much to tell in the first place.”

“You didn’t tell me that Imperials were looking for him. Nor did you mention that you went to dinner with one of them.”

“You are direct, if nothing else,” Jasmine said, swiping pink hair behind her ear.

    45. Shine

When Zekk stepped off the shuttle, his apprentice in tow, he was at once amazed and devastated. The sun burned low in the evening sky, a bright red-pink obfuscated by a grey haze. The haze was evidence of what brought them to this world, but its cause was still far in the distance.

“Do you see the sun, Lens?” he asked. “How it is muddled by the smoke.”

“I do, Master,” Lens replied, solemnly. “How are we going to help?”

“In this age, fire should be something we can control. However, it is a raging adversary and hard to predict.”

    46. Raise

It was not long after Ben announced his new friend Lens that Mara Jade went to the Creche to ask about the boy. She found Tionne in a rocking chair soothing a baby.

“Thank you for seeing me, Tionne,” Mara said, sitting in an adjacent chair.

“I thought you might want to talk,” Tionne responded, knowingly. “The boys seem to get along very well.”

“It sure looks that way,” Mara added. “Lens seems to connect with Ben in ways that no one other than Jacen has been able to. Can you tell me more about him?”

    “I’d be happy to.”

    47. Juvenile

“Lens likes to joke around, Mara,” Tionne began. “He uses jokes and sarcasm to mask his insecurities. What boy doesn’t? But Lens is our foundling. He was left with us as a baby with no way to determine his parentage. So, you can imagine there is some anger underneath all his clowning around.”

“Of course,” Mara acknowledged. “What about fighting? Has he been in any fights?”

“Yes,” Tionne answered, directly. “Mostly in defending himself isolated incidents of bullying.”

    “Bullying? Among the initiates?”

“It happens. They are pre-adolescent beings. It is my job, among others, to teach them the proper path.”

    48. Mature

“Mr. Solo?” Lens called down the corridor as he ran to catch up. “Mr. Solo?”

The older man turned to see the initiate running toward him. He signed heavily. “No one calls me that, Kid. Ever.”

“I’m…sorry…Sir,” Lens wheezed as he pulled up in front of the Alliance hero.

    “That either,” Han Solo grumbled.

Perplexed, Lens asked: “What would you like me to call you?”

“What does everyone call me, Mr. Eli?”

    “Han.”

The former smuggler nodded his ascent.

“I’m sorry about your boots, Han,” Lens offered meekly. “I didn’t mean to ruin them. And, I never meant embarrass you.”

    49. Growth

Han Solo’s face did no soften at the apology. “It’s the second year in a row, Eli. You and your crew seem to be magnets for trouble, of your own making or not.”

“You’re right,” Lens replied, lowering his head. “I was out of line.”

Han furrowed his brow unsure if the boy was putting him on or if he really meant what he was saying. He decided to take a chance.

“Well, I can appreciate that,” Han said, placing his hand on his hips. “Do you want to make it up to me?”

Len lifted his head, grinning. “Absolutely!”

    50. Elder

“This won’t be easy, Kid,” Han said seriously.

“Nothing ever is,” Lens replied, evenly. “Nothing that matters, anyway.”

Han gave him a sideways glance as they entered the Falcon. This was not the Lens Han was used to. This kid was serious, polite, and respectful. He was humble and wanted to help. Where is the brash goofball, the kid with the devil may care attitude?

“Are you sure you’re Lens Eli?” Han said, flashing his famous lopsided grin.

Lens looked up at the old smuggler, an earnest smile on his lips.

“I’m the Lens making it right with Han Solo.”

    Week XI - by Briannakin

    51. Go

Jyn Erso didn’t want to go. She wasn’t ready, but she would not be condescended to any longer. Saw was clear on the subject of disrespect: It was not tolerated. Somewhere, deep down in his fleshy parts, he had to know, had to see the irony of this actions.
She hoisted her rucksack on to her shoulders and adjusted the visor to her face. Leaving the stronghold was easy enough. No one questioned seeing her about. However, navigating the rocky desert on her way to Jedha City would be a challenge. She did not leave a note or say goodbye.

    52. Wait

0720 Razor told her to enter at 0725.

0721 Jyn’s hands were itching with sweat. Her fingerless gloves weren’t helping matters. Her job was to pick the lock and meet her partner on the second floor. They would incapacitate the inhabitants, crack the safe, and exit with the documents. Three minutes and out.

0723 Her hands were shaking. A bead of sweat traced a line from her ear along her jawline.

0724 Inserting the tool into the dated lock, she turned it. The blaring alarm deafened her and she dropped her tool bundle.

    0725 Jyn’s wrist com vibrated. “0725 – ABORT!”

    53. Rise

The following morning, Jyn woke in a local detention cell. Her rucksack was gone and an aching bruise on her cheek was left in its place. Her body hurt. If not for the speed shown by local peace officers, it might have been worse. Razor had been so enraged by her error that he had punched her in the face and shot her with a high voltage energy weapon. Sirens must have scared him off because she was found unconscious and alone. She sat up and leaned against the wall.

“Got any bacta out there?” she yelled into the silence.

    54. For

“What’d you do that for?” Han chastised, as he kneeled over the now exposed hyperdrive compartment. He and Lens has removed the deck plating to affect a simple, if ponderous repair.

“You said to turn the spanner to the right and really crank on it!” Lens replied, anxiously.

“No,” Han retorted. “I said turn the spanner lightly or I’ll get cranky. Now, you’ve gone and stripped the distributor bolt.”

“I’m not a dolt!” Lens barked, from the bowels of the Falcon.

“Come on out of there, Kid,” the old smuggler said. “I thought I was the one hard of hearing.”

    55. Against

    AU Diversion

Tatooine was a small down and one that seemed to exist out of time. Values stayed the same, even when stifling the young people’s desire to express themselves. When Han moved into town from Coronet City, he immediately felt the lockdown on anything resembling fun. A preacher named Owen Lars seemed to rule the community with his rejection dancing, cruising, and drinking.

It wasn’t long before Han met the preacher’s daughter, Leia, who seemed more than willing to reject her father’s puritanical ways. Han wasn’t interesting in breaking the law, but he was interested in the girl. Time to dance!
