Welcome to the Official DVD Users Discussion thread. Feel free to discuss anything and everything concerning DVD's, your DVD Player, upcoming releases, DVD features, and so on.

Hopefully we can get a few core members, because I know there's a ton of DVD Users out there.

To start with, everyone list your current collection. I only got my DVD Player last month, so my collection is relatively small.

    Batman
    Goodfellas
    LA Confidential
    Matrix
    Pulp Fiction
    Romeo and Juliet
    Terminator 2
    The Fugitive
    The Sixth Sense
    Unforgiven

I got Batman, LA Con, The Fugitive and Unforgiven free with my Player, so that was a pretty good deal. My current Player is a Toshiba SD-2109, which I got for a pretty good price, plus the free DVD's.

    So, any other DVD fanatics?

I'm not a complete fanatic. At least not yet. I got my DVD player about a year ago. I my collection isn't that big either.

    I've got:

    Armagedon
    Abyss
Who Am I? - Jackie Chan
    Venus Wars
    DBZ movie
    Street Fighter 2 Animated Movie

I'm really waiting for the The Macross saga and Gundam Wing and Evangelion to come out on DVD. I also want to pick up the Tenchi Muyo Boxset and Independence Day on DVD.

I'm certain that my copy of Full Metal Jacket is clearer on video than my DVD copy.
Now I'm worried as to what could happen on TPM.
Wedge3210 will have a time of this!

I really doubt this. Even on the remote chance, it was clearer on video, give it a few more viewings, and the DVD will be superior.

I can't wait for the Transformers: The Movie DVD!

epic, trust me on this. The first 45 minutes details that are clear on video (such as faces) are somewhat blurred on DVD. I watched Shakespear in Love, that too has blur, but well within acceptable limits. When i first watched it, I was amazed at the clarity. It reminded me of when I put my glasses on for the first time.
FMJ I noticed (with some alarm) is disgraceful. The same applies to Pulp Fiction. It looks rough as guts. What happens to these great films on video that doesn't happen on DVD? Does anyone know?

I have just as small of a collection.

    Young Guns
    Young Guns II
    Tombstone
    Terminator 2

But my Young Guns and T2 DVD aren't that clear. Live Home Entertainment doesn't know the meaning of CLEARNESS!!!! Also, my YG DVD isn't even in widescreen cuz all they did was add the black matte lines mad.gif The only good thing about them is their Cast and Crew bios, Script Notes, Theatrical Trailers, Behind the Scenes looks, and special features along with only having the movie mad.gif BTW, this is how unclear my YG DVD is. Go to http://homes.arealcity.com/VincenzoGiovoni/KieferSutherlund.jpg http://homes.arealcity.com/VincenzoGiovoni/KieferSutherlund.jpg

P.S. the flipping that the T2 DVD makes when you clik on something rocks! I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone though tongue.gif E.T. and BTTF will be coming on DVD as well BTW, copy and paste the URL if you want to see un-clearness! Click not. Paste. Or paste not, there is no clicking.

I switched over last fall and I couldn't be happier. I bought a Toshiba-3109. It can hold two discs. Here's what I got:

    Blair Witch Project
    Halloween (Sp Ed)
    Nightmare on Elm Street
    South Park movie
    The Thing
Alien & Aliens (The other two movies don't exist in my mind)
    The Sixth Sense
    Tarzan (2-disc set)
    Spaceballs
    The Matrix
    The Mummy
    The Maltese Falcon
    American Pie (unrated version)

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm looking forward to Jaws this summer and Jurassic Park and Superman later this year. I should have my DTS sound system by then. Can't wait.

Epster, Epster, Epster, no it is NOT! Check your T2 DVD on the scene when Ahnold and Robert Patrick are fighting in the plant while they're throwing each other into each of the walls and such. On the beginning. That has the most grain I have ever saw on a DVD!
