Do hungry pigeons and seagulls ever annoy you? Try taking a trip to the aptly named 'Bird Island'. On this sub-antarctic island there is one bird (or seal) per 1.5 cubic metres.

The Colosseum (sp) is correctly known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (sp), named after the dynastic name of the emperors Vespasian (father), Trajan (son #1) and Domitian (son #2), who ruled the Roman Empire in the later half of the first century AD.......the four levels roughly equate with the reigns of the various emperors, with the last two levels i think having being constructed during the reign of Domitian........it gained its more common name i believe because a giant statue of Nero was situated next to it, known as the Colossus of Nero, as part of his Golden House complex built in the centre of Rome after the great fires that occured during his reign......the amphitheatre taking possibly what was the position of the ornamental lake

I Tried to post this earlier but couldn't.

The Colosseum was used for about 450 years and it is said that a man was killed in it every 15 seconds over this period.
It had the capacity of between 50-70,000 and could be both filled and emptied in 7 minutes.
The Colosseum was also used for Naval battles, the stadium could be flooded in 15 minutes.
Outside the stadium stood a large fountain where the gladiators (the ones that survived) would wash the blood from their bodies and pass their armour onto the next gladiators.
During the reign of Mussolini(sp) the fountain was destroyed when he marched his troops through Rome, the fountain (and other historic structures) that were in the way were bulldozed with tanks.

Buzzy bees and other insects theoretically shound't be able to fly because of their tiny wings. But! when they flap their wings a vortex of air is created along the wing span and creates a lift that enables the insect to fly.

The humming bird is the only bird that can fly backwards, by using the same vortex method as insects, rather flapping as with other birds.

Archaeopteryx was one of the first feathered creatures, and is thought to be the first true bird. It lived during the Jurassic period over 100 million years ago. Athough feathered and bird-like, it had many reptile-like features such as its teeth and bone structure. This suggests a link between modern birds and Dinosaurs.

my horse was named black beauty (seriously..thats what happens when you let your sister name the horse)....and she was an elegant demonstration of the fact that if you want to sell a disobediant horse, starve it for a while so the buyer will think it is calm if they are not to clued up horseswise (as my mother was not.....)

    caveat emptor

When frogs eat something that is poisonous or otherwise bad for them, they can throw up their entire stomach. That is, the stomach actually protrudes through their mouth and they wipe it with their right front leg.

When frogs eat, their eyes recede into their skulls and actually help them swallow.
