I want to second this, and state that this also my guess.

Keeping in mind that the New Year begins on January 1st, 2013.

 

So it's January; any word on when IGN is doing The Move?

 

Not yet as far as I know. I have been keeping an eye on both their old and new boards and haven't seen any announcements yet. I do know the IGN staff were off from Dec 23 for Christmas as there was a post by one of the mods saying that. I assume they are back to work as of this past Tuesday but I don't have any confirmation.

i know i'm a little late to this party, but here's my two cents.

i say if IGN is willing to do a data conversion why are we going to convert it AGAIN, which was one of the major hangups in the first place? for one thing, there could be data corruption during the conversion (unless i'm very much misunderstanding things), so why would we want to risk that again with a file this size. and why would we want to add to the downtime of the site?

i realize there has been a lot of work down on vbulletin, but why don't we see what of that work can be converted to xenoforo instead of trying to force things to fit into vbulletin? just seems like not going with xenoforo is asking for more trouble. so what if it takes a little while to get things back to the feel/look that we're used to? at least we'll still be able to use the forums while that's being done.

 

We've been discussing Xenforo vs VBulletin in MS. Right now we are waiting for Philip Wise and his crew to set up a test Xenforo site. We can't do much without that. Grimby and I had a brief play with things on a demo system Xenforo offers but the demo boards only last 3 days.

 

Isn't there a way you can contact them directly and ask?

I realize they're not supporting us any more, but surely answering questions from the admins of a board they're hosting falls under "basic communication" and not "support", especially if the question is "when can we get ourselves off your hands?". It's ridiculous that we're depending on publicly-available information from their boards.

 

The game hosts prj1 and JediMaster1511 are mods at a forums site called Forcelight. Could the JCF be moved there, if their tech guys agree to help/convert? I've used their boards and they're easy and best of all, you get e-mail alerts etc. when stuff happens.

 

I'm ready for the move.
