And I agree Old_Brown_Shoe, being allowed to keep the thread going at all was nine tenths of your battle and it's been won so far. Now you guys just have to keep it up and if a little change of focus achieves that....then great

So, why does everyone like ESB?

 

I really couldn't tell you why with a simple answer. My earliest memory, from around the age of three, is that of the Bespin scene where Luke is pinned by DV's lightsabre (that might explain a few things ). It's a very primal thing, deeply associated with my formative years. Very strange stuff...

I agree with Kwenn, a little off topic can't be too bad, DA... we're not going to be babbling about things with nothing to do with ESB though.

 

Kwenn: Please stop linking to your website. If you value the link so much, just whack it in your sig but there is no need to post the same thing so many times in a row.

And I'm not saying that every single post has to be strictly limited to ESB, guys. I am saying that...being in a movies forum now....the conversation topics in this social thread should based around ESB as much as humanely possible. I'm not here to spoil your fun unless the rules are broken. I'm not "out to kill" this thread, in fact I hope does well (cause ESB is my favourite in the CT )

How about this old chestnut to get things rolling: Why did Vader stop Boba Fett from shooting acroos the carbon freezing chamber when Chewie went nuts?

Was it because he had a vague sense of his daughter for the first time (there's some funny looks between him and Leia! ) or did he recognise his childhood toy, C3P0, strapped to the Wookiee's back? Or did he not want to ruin the carbon freezing controls with a stray blast?

Or....something else entirely? ?

 

He didn't think there was much point in killing a massive, enraged Rebel friend of the man he was having turned into a coffee table...

On why Vader stops Boba from shooting:

Well, we already know he originally ordered the bounty hunters to bring them all in alive. I'm also imagining he's seen Fett in action; I don't think he's worried that Fett will miss at this range. However, as soon as Han is frozen, Vader orders Lando to turn Leia and Chewie over to him. So...
I figure Vader wants to keep Leia and Chewie as "alternative forms of persuasion" for Luke's training in the Dark Side. If Boba kills Chewie, that's one less piece Vader has to use. There's also the risk that Leia or Han could stumble into the line of fire. Bottom line, DV must want Leia and Chewie alive for some dark purpose, and so has to accept the loss of a few stormtroopers.

 

Good idea, and its probably right.

Yeah, GL gave Vader a list of people not to kill, but Boba Fett hadn't seen it by the time they did that scene.

On Chewie showering, if you don't mind me bringing up the EU (sheesh, I'm one of the last people you'd see doing that ):
There's a scene in "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy" (great old Brian Daley Han Solo Trilogy) where Chewie is getting cleaned up in a sort of zero-gee chamber with all of his individual hairs standing out and receiving individual treatment. It sounds kind of expensive to do on a regular basis, so Wookiees probably just don't sweat like humans do.

 

Has anyone PMed the other people on the list yet? I'll do it tomorrow if no one has yet and we still want to. I've been working on another "fun" quiz in an effort to goose the thread (fun refering to its lack of seriousness; whether or not the people working on it find it fun is another matter ); I'll post that tomorrow too.
