Outside the main galaxy, judging from the CGI.
Hey, if we can have Earth animals in canon, the planet can follow suit, imho. ;)

Nothing in that article requires that the planet with the name "Earth" is the same as our planet, right? [face_dunno]

I already had the spaceport in the Atlas appendix.

I know this is just what I always say, but will see what LFL wants to do.

Though I'm not happy about the Earth thing, the article was awesome.

Short for Ord Earth. Ancient Republic far-range Ordnance/Regional Depot. One of those that were abandoned according to The Unknown Regions.

just a nebula! that looks like the galaxy.... because... uhm... Celestials needed a model before building their stuff for real?

*reopens the can of worms about the end of TESB being a nebula or extragalactic fleet with saxtonite extrapolatable distance to the galaxy*

I think it was the audio commentary for the DVD or Blu-Ray or both, that finally settled it (answer- it's a galaxy).

So the Earth system is next to the Water, Air, and Fire systems, right? Because of, I dunno, H'kig monks or some religion. And the planets in the systems are named after H'kig sub-elements of the elements, like Rock, Clay, and Sand in the Earth system, and there's no planet named Earth, and everyone's happy, right?

Actually, it's not just "a" galaxy, it's "the" galaxy. According to Of Possible Futures: The Tale of Zuckuss and 4-LOM, the Rebel rendezvous point following the Battle of Hoth was located beyond the Galactic Rim, far above the galactic equatorial plane and far away from any stars.

and why then does in Shadows of the Empire comic an imperial patrol stumble upon the Rebel Fleet? what was the Empire doing there? it only makes sense if it is halfway between satelite galaxy and the galaxy. so remote but not "nobody ever was there before".

Yup- it's just that those are non-movie sources- whereas the other is a movie-related source- even if it's audio commentary.

The Essential Atlas shows the location, in the ESB section of the book. Interestingly, the last photo in that section is not of the galaxy, but of Luke & Leia looking out at a nebula. One that's bright pink, and very much like the Orion Nebula in shape.

Don't get me wrong, I would have preferred that bright object to be the Rishi Maze (or "Companion Aurek"), as was originally said on the exclusive DVD-ROM content of AOTC.

What was the Empire doing around this Star Tours station? It's within their territory/range. Even if it's above the galactic plane.

That wouldn't fix any of the complaints about the visible rotation though. Whether the object is 120,000 light years in diameter or 1,200 light years, rotation motion shouldn't be visible.

I put it down to movie special effects- that not everything we see in the movie- has to be taken as perfectly accurate.

a lucky extragalactic guess? that taskforce needs a forcesensitive Operative for that type of luck! Which Emperors Hand was it that got axed there with the taskforce then?
