OK, I think the poll refers to the term "coke" in place of soda. I worked for Pepsico and some of the southerners in the company would still hollar out "keen yu git me a coke?" [face_laugh]

I'm giving up Coca-cola this year. I'm switching to water first and then diet A&W or diet Vanilla Coke.

I figured that. But since I don't like coke, I never associated it's name when asking for a generic soda. I always specified what I wanted and said Soda when talking about the subject in general.

I call soda soda. What else can you call soda?

It doesn't pop. It's not all coke. Soda is soda. So just call it soda.

In Los Angeles, people I knew refered to everything soda as "Coke".

In Mexico, most everything is either "Soda" or "Refresco".

On the reservations here in Arizona, I hear people say "Pop."

When I grew up in Colorado it was always pop. But I say soda now. I've lived here 13.5 years so I'm almost a native now. Who's actually from here anyway?

Like Kreator said, growing up in CO it was "pop". But after travelling the planet and never living anywhere for a great length of time since high school, I call it "soda".

But because Coca Cola is such a cultural icon, the term "Coke" has partially moved away from being solely a brand identifier and more into a general term for any flavored carbonated beverage. And thus is the most correct term.

Also, I'm from Oklahoma and that's how we say it there. Y'all.

hmmmm... soda. I think one, because we moved here from Utard where we grew up saying "pop," and two, because saying "pop" instead of "soda" is like saying "potty" instead of "toilet" (to me, that is). To my ear, it sounds juvenile. :) Not that there's anything *wrong* with being juvenile, just that, as you get older, you start saying certain things differently.

    Jacob says pop.

There is no soda in "soda". It does, however, have a poptop :p

Anyway, usually in the Midwest it's Pop, in Texas and some of California it's Coke, and everywhere else it's Soda.

I'm from Kansas. I call it Pop. Deal with it :p ;)

Queenie: You grew up? [face_shocked] ;) Nothin' but [face_love] for ya dear!

I too grew up in Utard and said "pop" for most of my childhood. Then I moved to Chicago where it was "soda" and then here where I continue to say "soda".

But hey you can't take it from me. My childhood was twisted when it came to the difference between slang and correct terminology. I got my mouth washed out with soap for saying "pee" instead of "urinate" or "micturate" or "potty-wet-wet", the three terms that my father thought were correct.

I'm sorry but I don't care who you are, when a child looks at you and says "I have to urinate" or "I need to go micturate" or "I need to go potty-wet-wet" you're gonna wonder what is wrong with them.

So, much like Ralphie on A Christmas Story, I too have a favorite soap flavor since I simply couldn't bring myself to say anything but "pee".

My favorite flavor of soap is Dove...creamy but with a kick. Dial is too spicy and Ivory is not as comfortable in the mouth as Dove. Dove is rounded and when placed bowed side down actually spares your jaw muscles some. The key to it all is to drool profusely and let it dribble all over your shirt instead of swallowing which will make you barf...another word that got Dove shoved into my mouth. The drooling spares you some of the taste and will disgust your mother enough that the soap treatment will end much quicker because she won't be able to stand the fact that you're drooling all over that cool neon orange turtle neck she bought you to go with your red corderoy's.

Now you know why I'm so disturbed.

Okay, I hit the sode thing, but that's only because no one ever calls it by what it really is and they look at me like I have 3 heads when I use the correct term.... SOFT DRINK!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just had to vent that one last time :p [face_laugh]
