In the lower left panel, you'll see another McQuarrie concept that looks very similar to the TFA castle concept.

It could just be me but that looks similar to Jabba's Palace.

I could see how the evil castle can parallel ANH's Death Star scenes. In that, the heroes sneak around, face perilous situations, lurking alien creatures, etc. Making Star Wars made mention that Finn and Rey spend time wandering the catacombs of the castle.

Since then there has been some indication those catacombs are from the exotic city. However, the painter might just use the same style of stone in various works.

@hartman89 If your recent references to posting while using opiates are remotely true, I encourage you to log off until you are sober, as our rules state:
If it was merely a "joke", I would encourage you to come up with an actually humorous routine for the same exact reasons in the rule quoted above.

One of the absolute truths that we have in hand so far (there are so few) is that J.J. and his team are pulling lots of artistic direction from McQuarrie. There can be no doubt that the castle shown in the this concept piece directly resembles that of the late concept artist. That is Vaders castle.

The question then becomes is this an early draft for the Arndt script or is this piece of art for J.J./Kasdan script? If its J.J./Kasdan then its in the movie and we are looking at Vaders castle.

On a side note, if this indeed is Vaders castle, wouldn't it be more appropriate if Anakin built his residence or acquired one on Naboo? I would like to think when Anakin is taking his helmet off for a week or so of R&R, that he would go sit by the ocean and remember his sweet Padme.

When Anakin was on Naboo I always thought he stayed at Padme's when he could sneak away from the Jedi.

I would guess that he lived on Coruscant after he left Tatooine with Obi-Wan since he was an orphan and all that.

Doesn't mean he couldn't have an Evil Castle though

vader would have is own place but it wouldn't be on naboo. that would be much to painful. the same reason he never went to tatooine again.

the concept art from 7 is most certainly the same as vader's bast castle. it may end up being something completely different but i would love for it to be vader's. there could be more artifacts for the collector or he could go there because he wants to be vader so badly. he lives in vader's castle, keeps his helmet, models his costume after him, etc.

Until the Tarkin novel blew my theory out of the water, I thought Vader took up residence in the Jedi Temple. I always imagined him sitting in Mace Windu's chair in the empty Council chamber thinking to himself, who's the Master now, B****

if it turns out to be vader's castle it could serve as a major plot point.

For the first half of the movie the heroes may even think Vader has returned from the grave. This could be a deliberate act by Kylo to sow confusion throughout the Galaxy and draw Luke out of hiding?

That would make sense. Aesthetically, they may even go for the lava throne room for the shrine.

I don't think Kylo Ren needs to do something like that for show, or to confuse anyone. Just the return of the Sith should be enough. I'm guessing that Luke doesn't know about it right away, but someone notifies him later in the movie.

That's if he IS a Sith at the start of the movie. He may not even be that powerful until he starts training in the ways of the Sith. Possibly from the mystery "puppet master" and that may be in EP VIII.
