This would have be a great explanation and could have been included in the film with one more line of dialog from MVS. "You take this map to Leia. I have more work to do. The Force has called me to Jakku, and I must find out why..."

Actually, had his instrumentation not died and he lost control, he would NOT have landed next to Yoda. Yoda was actually in control of his X-wing and caused that to happen so the force could guide him down to where he needed to be.

It's the will of the force/jedi all the way down :) just to be clear, none of this bothers me, and none of the seeming coincidences in TFA really do either.

At first I thought it was because people were scared of Unkar, his reputation might be to track down any thieves and do nasty things. Then again, once stolen how was he going to find them?
I would steal the Falcon, that's what went through my mind watching it. It wasn't guarded or locked. If that's what they call junk, I would love some of that junk. What bothers me most is how everyone keeps calling Rey a 'scavenger', even she herself says it, why not call her a ship mechanic, or a pilot? Or a spare parts specialist? She knows so much mechanical stuff, you would think she would prefer a more fitting job title, without denying her scavenging side.
I've scavenged in my days, finding some great stuff others call junk.

I've given up trying to look at this story realistically, nothing about SW is too realistic, we just have to roll with it. It all comes down to the force setting everything up.

    I
I think if you start looking at SW realistically, you only take yourself out of what makes SW great IMO. It's a fantasy film which uses a loose framework of our own reference points as a foundation. Heroes, villians, ships, armies, different landscapes, junkyards, cantinas etc. If you start going looking to closely at the thing as a whole, you are only going to chasing your tail. Just enjoy it!

Nothing to do with it. Lor said the map was recently found, presumably on Jakku. Unless we assume that the only reason that Lor was on Jakku was for searching for the map.

Lor has settled on Jakku for some time I think hasn't he? I don't think he has anything to do with Rey or keeping an eye on her. I don't think Leia can have any idea Rey is on Jakku either.

A ship as beloved and famous as the Falcon could very well be left to collect dust in a remote junkyard after thirty years. Happens in real life- google "Memphis Belle". Legendary WW2 B-17 now ridden with vandalism and pigeon crap.

I think there's a better likelihood of Lor having a connection to Rey than the Falcon- but I think there's a lot of backstory to him that will be revealed.

ESB has plenty of councidences too. Hoth is near Bespin. Luke manages to crash land within a couple hundred yards of Yoda. There are more conicidences and conveniences. They abound in Star Wars.

They abound in any movie. It's how they're dealt with, lamp-shaded, or can be explained in a logical manner that makes them work (or not).

There are no visible seat belts on the pilot seats of the Falcon. That's absurdly unsafe.

What I mean is that Poe's mission was to meet Lor. Their being together on Jakku is not a coincidence. It's even in the crawl. So those two things in your list have to be taken together.

Well, an almost identical scenario occured in ANH. Weird that Vader just /happened/ to stop (his daughter) Leia's ship directly over Tatooine, where his lost son and best friend/worst enemy have been hiding out for decades.

"The Will of the Force" is strong enough to overcome /ANY/ coincidences and plot holes. ;)

The PT was littered with them as well. SW is one of the few franchises where you can MOSTLY get away with this, because most of the time it can be chalked up the "the will of The Force," or some such thing. For instance, if Luke hadn't happened to have crashed right near Yoda's hut, he'd have landed somewhere else. And it would have turned out that Yoda just so happened to have decided to go for a walk that day, in that same direction, and have still bumped into them.

These people are just destined to meet, and if it doesn't happen one way, then it'll happen another.

And in the interests in keeping things moving in a two hour movie, I think the quickest arrangement is usually preferred.
