Virtual Sports Fans! Our Second Round tips off in Los Angeles, with the Courtsiders defending their perfect record. It's The Worm against the Big Fundamental! The Beard against the Big O!

    Game 1: The Anti-Dentites 110, Los Angeles Courtsiders 108

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

The Courtsiders just barely ran out of time to finish their comeback and extend their season opening winning streak to five.

Down 13 with just over four minutes to play, the Courtsiders went on a fury to try to steal the win. In the span of 19 seconds, Tracy McGrady completed two old-fashioned three-point plays to cut the deficit to seven. And Elgin Baylor triple with 21 seconds left brought the Courtsiders to within two - and the Forum crowd to a frenzy - but the Anti-Dentites made 5 of 6 free throws from there to keep the Courtsiders and bay and take the first game in the series.

Kevin Durant did a bit of everything in this one to lead the way, scoring 23 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, dishing out 3 assists, blocking 2 shots, and nabbing three steals. Bill Russell added 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Derrick Rose scored 21 points, his aggression in getting to the free throw line fueling his team to 38 attempts on the night - double what their opponents got.

In the loss, the Courtsiders got a fantastic game from Baylor, with 28 points and 14 rebounds (6 on the offensive glass), and a great supporting game from McGrady, who scored 24, as well as a double-double from Hakeem Olajuwan with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

    Game 2: Los Angeles Courtsiders 99, The Anti-Dentites 91

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

When the game was on the line, the Courtsiders stepped up, and found a way to win on the road.

With the game tied at 89 with 3 minutes to go, it looked like we were in for quite the finish. But, instead of drama, we got dominance.

Clamping down on defense, the Courtsiders would let the Anti-Dentites hit only 1 of their final seven shots, ending the game on a dominant 10-2 run to even us up. Perhaps even more dominant was the personal 7-0 run Elgin Baylor ended the game on, including a key block on Derrick Rose with the teams just 3 points apart with 47 seconds left.

That ending run was just the icing on the cake for a dominant night for Baylor, who scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds (6 of them offensive). his dominance was needed, too, as only two other Courtsiders scored in double figures - Tracy McGrady and Hakeem Olajuwan with 12 points each.

On the other side, the Anti-Dentites will lament their poor outside shooting (3-for-13) in addition to their end-game wilting. Tim Duncan was their top scorer with 18 points (and 7 rebounds), while Kevin Durant added 15 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, and Moses Malone had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Despite his team fading down the stretch, we cannot confirm that Kevin Durant has quit on his teammates and decided to jump ship. We'll continue to monitor this situation.

    Game 3: The Anti-Dentites 110, Los Angeles Courtsiders 99

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

In a near flipping of the script, the Anti-Dentites used a strong defensive start to the fourth quarter to run away from what had been a close game, and give a home team a win for the first time in this series.

With the score tied at 77 entering the fourth, the Anti-Dentites allowed the Los Angeles Courtsiders to make just one field goal in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the fourth quarter to take a commanding ten-point lead, and never look back.

The Big Fundamental - Tim Duncan - was the big difference maker for the Anti-Dentites, scoring 24 points, and grabbing 14 rebounds. Julius Erving added a smooth 20 points on just 9 field goal attempts, and added 5 rebounds and 5 assists, and Kevin Durant added 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.

Los Angeles Courtsiders got a massive 34 points and 12 rebounds from Elgin Baylor, 15 points from Tracy McGrady, 13 from Hakeem Olajuwan, and 12 from Magic Johnson. But, they got only 16 points from their bench in a combined 69 minutes of action, compared to their opponents who got 35 points from their bench.

    Game 4: Los Angeles Courtsiders 115, The Anti-Dentites 108

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

The Los Angeles Courtsiders came out hot in the first half, and rode that strong performance to a win to split the series.

The Courtsiders grabbed an early 9 point lead just 6 minutes into the game, and pushed their advantage to 20 with 1:40 left in the first half, before going on cruise control to take the win at home.

Tracy McGrady was the engine that drove this team tonight, scoring 26 points and dishing out 8 assists. Hakeem Olajuwan scored 14 and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Elgin Baylor had his quietest game of the series - still putting up 12 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and handing out 5 assists. The Courtsiders also got some much needed scoring from the bench, with Chris Paul (10 points), Chris Bosh (9 points), and Andre Igoudala (9 points) stepping up.

The Anti-Dentites got 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists from Julius Erving and 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists from Kevin Durant, but struggled to feature Bill Russel, who took just 5 shots and scored just 6 points, despite pulling down 10 rebounds (5 of them on the offensive glass). They did get 16 points in 20 minutes off the bench from James Harden.

It's the return of Kevin Love Watch! It's LeBron vs. Kyrie - but BOTH are on the bench! Shaq Hard! Shaq Harder! Shaq Hard with a Vengeance!

Game 1: ABSOLUTE UNIT 100, A Shaq of the Clones 85

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

Even with Shaquille O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal, and Shaquille O'Neal in the front court opposite him, Dennis Rodman couldn't be contained on the boards.

Rodman finished the game with an eye-popping 24 rebounds. That dominance kept his team in a game where the combined 18 rebounds from Shaq, Shaq, Shaq, and Shaq could have threatened to turn the tide. But, big offensive nights from three of Rodman's teammates and woeful shooting from a Shaq of the Clones pushed ABSOLUTE UNIT to victory.

Sidney Moncrief scored 31 points, John Stockton 22, and Elton Brand 27 to push the offense for ABSOLUTE UNIT. Not surprisingly, ABSOLUTE UNIT also got an edge from the free throw line, hitting 92.3% of their shots from the charity stripe, while A Shaq of the Clones could hit only 61.5%.

A Shaq of the Clones also shot only 37.8% from the field, dooming their efforts even with the edge in second-chance points. O'Neal lead the way with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks, while O'Neal added 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 blocks as well. They also got 16 points and 8 rebounds from O'Neal, and 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 blocks from O'Neal.

Kevin Love Watch: 4 minutes, missed both shots he took, including one triple.

Game 2: A Shaq of the Clones 78, ABSOLUTE UNIT 70

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

In a race to the bottom, A Shaq of the Clones won - or lost, depending on your point of view - to get their first win of the year.

How you viewed the fourth quarter - either a tour de force of defense from A Shaq of the Clones, or an anemic display of offense from ABSOLUTE UNIT - depends on which lens you viewed the game through. And how many beers you consumed while forcing yourself to watch it. ABSOLUTE UNIT made only three field goals in the entire quarter. One on a tip-in of a miss. One from further than one-foot from the basket. And A Shaq of the Clones turned an 11-point deficit slowly into an eight point victory.

Nobody had a worse night than the viewers, trying to get through the end of the game, as ABSOLUTE UNIT fouled to extend the game, and we were treated to joy of Shaquille O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal, and Shaquille O'Neal trying to ice the game from the charity stripe.

Despite shooting a pitiful 35.8% from the field, a Shaq of the Clones were helped immensely by their 23-10 edge on the offensive glass, lead by Shaquille O'Neal who grabbed 6 offensive rebounds as part of his 10 total, and poured in 22 points. Aiding Shaq's efforts were Shaquille O'Neal (12 points, 14 rebounds - 7 offensive), Shaquille O'Neal (12 points, 12 rebounds), Shaquille O'Neal (10 points, 10 rebounds - 4 offensive) and Shaquille O'Neal (17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists).

Elton Brand was seemingly the only player for ABSOLUTE UNIT interested in not being one dimensional, as he scored 31 points and added 12 rebounds. Otherwise, you had 18 points and 11 turnovers from John Stockton, 17 rebounds and 4 points from Dennis Rodman, and 14 points and 3 rebounds from Dikembe Mutombo.

Kevin Love Watch: 7 Minutes, 0-for-2 from the field, including 0-1 from three, but he did make both of his free throws

Game 3: ABSOLUTE UNIT 92, A Shaq of the Clones 77

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

Elton Brand turned into Wilt Chamberlain. Dennis Rodman continued his one-dimensional dominance. And a Shaq of the Clones again shot in the thirties from the field to again waste a significant rebounding edge, to snap their winning streak at one.

Brand scored 34 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked 6 shots, and added 3 steals. Dennis Rodman grabbed 28 rebounds - 11 of them on the offensive glass - and came tantalizingly close to double digit scoring for the first time in the series, with 8 points. And, in what might be a first, ABSOLUTE UNIT got the win despite zero rebounds from their center, though John Stockton did score 16 points, while Sidney Moncrief added 21.

Neither team his a triple in the game, ending a combined 0-for-9.

A Shaq of the Clones got impressive individual numbers from Shaquille O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal, Shaquille O'Neal, and Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq scored 25 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked 7 shots, while Shaq scored 11, pulled down 7 rebounds and also blocked 7 shots. Shaq, meanwhile, scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Shaq scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while blocking 6 shots. Throw in another 12 rebounds from Shaquille O'Neal, and A Shaq of the Clones had a 64-57 edge on the glass and a 23-16 edge on the offensive glass while blocking 25 shots, but were undone by 34.5% from the field and 65.4% from the free throw line.

Kevin Love Watch: 11 minutes. His first two field goal makes (on six attempts) in the series, but 0-for-3 from downtown, while contributing six rebounds.

Game 4: ABSOLUTE UNIT 85, A Shaq of the Clones 55

    Full Play-by-Play
    Box Score

No folks. That 55 points isn't what a Shaq of the Clones had at halftime. That's their total score for the entire 48 minutes.

With a putrid offensive performance only matched by the defensive performances of the Isaiah Thomas-era Cleveland Cavaliers, A Shaq of the Clones turned in one of the worst performances all time, and slinked off in defeat.

A Shaq of the Clones shot 27.3% from the field, shot 25.0% from the free throw line, and had only two players - Shaquille O'Neal and Shaquille O'Neal - score in double figures, and then only barely. Shaq scored 11, while Shaq scored 10 (and also added 13 rebounds, 7 of them offensive).

Perhaps no stat line better summed up the night for A Shaq of the Clones than the one "enjoyed" by J R Smith - 20 minutes, 1 point, 1 assist. We can only assume he went 4-for-20 in pregame warmups.

For the first time in the series, ABSOLUTE UNIT won the battle on the boards, holding a 63-56 edge on the glass, thanks to another one-dimensional dominate performance from Dennis Rodman, who grabbed 28 rebounds (7 offensive) while scoring 5 points. All told, Elton Brand (23 points, 9 rebounds), Sidney Moncrief (26 points) and John Stockton (12 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds) combined for 61 points - or six more than a Shaq of the Clones scored.

With 8 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, ABSOLUTE UNIT would reach a point total higher than A Shaq of the Clones would reach all game.

Kevin Love Watch: 10 minutes, a respectable 3-for-7 from the field, 2-for-4 from downtown, and 5 rebounds.

Finally, an answer to the age old question: Is one Wilt better or two? Plus, LeBron vs. D-Wade!

    ...

Will be coming later because I got halfway through sims and realized I selected the wrong starter for Game, Blouses. No time to fix now. Will try to post today, if not today, it will be tomorrow.

I mean. The thought of Kevin Love basically buying a ticket to the game, sneaking onto the bench and then sneaking onto the court might be my new favorite thing.
