It appeared that Darth Paragon did the same exact thing that Nemisis had done earlier, instinctively throwing up a shield in case of an offensive Force attack. The ploy made by his words of offering to not use Force powers anymore had not worked at all. The fact that he was facing Paragon made Nemisis understand why it had not worked - the Sith Lord had not made it to the finals based on luck. So, Nemisis' use of scream had been deflected by the shield, not causing any harm on his opponent. Oh well, he thought quickly. He still had other tricks to use.

As the Sith Warriors' blades were sailing towards the head of his foe, Paragon did not raise his blades to block. In fact, he did quite the opposite. Instead, he left his blades hidden - most likely in the confines of his robes - and ducked, avoiding the blow. That was when he brought his blades out, extending them forth and bringing them together in a move that would have cut Nemisis in half. However, he was not there. He had already used his forward motion to somersault forward, with aid from the Force, twisting in the air. He landed some several meters away from Paragon, just out of range, yet rather close. Immediately upon coming down, he reached into the Force and sent a sense of nasty feelings towards his ally, afflicting him with pain and suffering that would slowly erode his body until there was nothing left.

However, Nemisis was not finished. He purposefully landed closer than normal from his opponent. Giving only a few moments to allow the affliction to settle in to his veins, but - hopefully - not enough time for him to mount a counter, Nemisis was on Paragon once again, sending one blade - his crimson red blade - forth in a stabbing motion. He had aid from the Force again, this time using it to speed his movements into an unheard of speed; one not tuned with the Force would not be able to see his movements at all. His other blade came in with a slicing motion towards Paragons right shoulder, in an attempt to cut the man diagonally across the chest.

With the affliction now entering Paragons veins, it would be hard for him to counter such a fast speed. Though, Nemisis was no fool. Paragon was a genius with a blade, and would find some way to counter. If that moment came, Nemisis would be prepared, and would find his own counter. Until then, he could only hope the duel would end so soon.

As the crimson blades of Darth Paragon rushed toward his opponent, he saw his prey leap high overhead. Frustration grew in the Sith upon realizing that the victory he tasted just moments ago, had now turned into the bitter flavor of disappointment. He inwardly scolded himself for allowing his mind to believe that a duel against Darth Nemisis could be ended with such ease.

He had known this Sith for far too long to have let his single-minded goal of victory blind him so, and he reminded himself that in order to defeat his foe he must focus on the present instead of the future. Such a slip in concentration would surely end his life, especially against one of Nemisis's calibur. From here on out, it must be the dark side of the Force which guides his actions, rather than emotions.

At the same time he was rededicating his mind to the fight he did not waste time sitting still, as he knew that one who jumps must surely land. Not seeing his opponent in the air led the Sith to believe that he had gone overheard and would be landing behind him, so in order to gain a bit more breathing room Darth Paragon quickly rose from his knees and darted to the right.

He did not make it far before he felt the all too familiar sensation of dark power wash over him, having experienced affliction in his last duel he knew immediately what to expect. This realization did not stop him from continuing onward however, stopping now to regret his misfortune would only serve to work against him further.
With knees already weak and his breathing becoming more labored he felt enough distance was put between him and his foe he turned, and with an inner sigh of relief saw the warrior's crimson blade stabbing and his blue one coming in for a horizontal slice through where the Sith had just recently been. A reluctant hint of satisfaction ran through him as he knew that Darth Nemisis surely must feel the same frustration at not being able to score a hit, but that satisfaction was tempered by the growing affliction now running through him.

What was that saying? Eye for an eye. Yes that was it. Summoning the dark side yet again, the Sith cast affliction once more toward his opponent and hoped that he did not have another defensive measure available to neutralize it. His only hope was to keep the other Sith equally disadvantaged, if he could not this fight could start to go downhill quickly. Losing was not an option, ever, no matter who the opponent or how talented he was.

Nemisis found himself growing angry. Not with his opponent - he held too much respect for Paragon - but with himself for allowing pulling such a foolish maneuver. Darth Paragon had moved before Nemisis even came down upon his feet, and, in his haste, the Sith Warrior had not even realized it. Now, he had wasted precious power in an attempt to strike quickly. Knowing Paragon, he was going to need that power.

The Sith Warrior took time to collect himself, feeding off the anger at himself for extra strength. He could feel the pain already oozing off of his foe, the affliction finding its mark. Nemisis smiled at that, realizing the tides were now definitely in his favor. The power of affliction had been a major factor in allowing him to escape harm in his first duel, and it would serve the same purpose here. Then, suddenly, as if by a miracle designed to stop Nemisis from winning, a feeling of sickness and dread washed over him, filling his joints with pain. He cursed aloud, realizing that Paragon, too, had the power to cast affliction. This would definitely throw a hydrospanner in Nemisis' plans.

The duo stood apart from each other, just as they had done at the beginning of the duel - just like they had done numerous times before. Only this time, each one was weaker. Each one cast with an affliction that would slowly eat at them until they had no power left. Nemisis realized he had to capitalize fast to gain an upper hand before this battle reached a draw. Although, the Sith Warrior still had a couple of tricks up his sleeve that he could utilize. He would most certainly need them since Paragon undoubtedly had some unorthodox tricks waiting for Nemisis.

"That was not very nice, milord," Nemisis said, his voice betraying the pain that was slowing eating away at him. He used a title of superiority as a diversion to make him feel more powerful than he actually was. It was probably a useless plan, Paragon knew who he was dealing with. He began to step forward, this time faster than he had before, wanting to end this duel as quickly as possible in order to relieve his aching joints. As he approached the Sith Lord, he gathered the Force inwards, building it up until it reached a point where he could no longer hold it in. With the thrust of his arms, a burst of Force energy shot forth towards Paragon. Nemisis then lunged forward, aided by the Force in order to shorten the distance between himself and his enemy.

He had planned to utilize this trick from the beginning. It would only work if everything went according to plan - which never happened - but it was worth trying. He had seen this move performed in a hologram from an ancient holocron back at the academy years ago. The Force User Force pushed his opponent backwards, then lunged forward. The two came down almost simultaneously, with the Force User on top, thrusting his saber down upon the helpless opponent, killing him. Nemisis had mirrored that, hoping he would have the same effect. There were two differences, however. Nemisis had two sabers, and held one back in a defensive position in case he needed it. The other was Nemisis had been afflicted, so his movements would not be as smooth as the Force User in the hologram.

"That was not very nice, milord." Called Darth Nemisis after a brief moment of respite, the pain obvious in his voice. A fact which the Sith relished, as the only cause could be from the previously cast affliction.

Darth Paragon though tempted to retort, held his tongue. An uncommon tactic for him, but sometimes silence weighed heavier on a foe than any words could, and knowing Nemisis as he did there was no chance Dun Möch would be effective.

The only thing this Sith would respond to was superior tactics, but finding the weakness in his defense was not easy...ever.

Apparently Darth Nemisis had waited long enough, as he began to once again move toward his prey, only this time quicker than before. The Sith reflected on this, and surmised that the others patience was waning slightly. He rarely acted without good cause however, so Darth Paragon kept his senses honed as best he could through the growing pain caused by the affliction.

Unfortunately his pain and fatigue had come to the point where the minor nuances in the Force could no longer be detected with ease, which is something that the Sith would soon suffer dearly for.

Next thing he knew, Darth Paragon was hit with a powerful slam of telekinetic force and was sent sailing. Air rushed past him, cooling the hot sweat which had begun to form on his brow due to the Force induced fever....but that bliss was soon taken from him as he was unceremoniously dumped on the hard ground.

There was a bit of fortune in the situation however, as he landed on his side and the momentum caused him to roll, this not only served to soften the landing a bit but also caused the speeding lightsaber to miss his midsection.

Fortune, being fickle as it is, to his great regret was not completely with him. The lightsaber did score a hit, and a vicious one at that. As the point came down it pushed through his forearm directly between the radius and ulna of his right arm, and as he continued to roll sliced clean through the radius bone effectively crippling his arm.

Darth Paragon immediately lost the grip on his lightsaber, but the searing pain that flashed through his mind caused him to not even notice the blade blink out as the hilt skittered away from him.

Survival instinct forced his next actions more than anything else, though what good it would do him now only the Force knew.

Coming out of the roll and up to his knees, his half severed right arm cradled close to his stomach. Pain, anger and disappointment causing the untapped power of the dark side to well up within him....and as it reached a boiling point was released in a powerful howl of delirious rage.

Darth Nemisis was angered when he saw his foe roll away from the attack. However, that anger was pushed away by the smell of burned flesh as the lightsaber sunk into the right arm of Darth Paragon, nearly severing it from the elbow. A sense of satisfaction washed over the Sith Warrior, but was quickly dissipated as the effects of affliction worsened, creaking his joints. Had it not been for the affliction, Paragon might have parished as Nemisis attempted a quick slash towards the head of his long time friend. Though, the Sith Lord had already rolled too far out of reach.

Nemisis bent his knees to lung forward, but was halted by a deafening roar that poured forth from Pargaon's mouth, shattering the ear drums of the Sith Warrior, sending him backpedaling. The pain was nearly too great to handle. When the scream finally died down, Nemisis looked forward at the opposing Sith through eyes filled with hate. However, his vision was blurred, due to the rattling of the brain that the deafening scream had caused. The Sith Warrior continued to backpedal until he was well out of range of Darth Paragon.

An eye for an eye. Rather, in this case, an arm for an eye. Nemisis should have known better than to think Paragon was going to just let his arm get nearly severed and be done with it. He would use all his might to hinder the progress of his opponent, and had found an appropriate opportunity to do so. Now, Nemisis had to battle through the dizzying effects of the scream and the deteriorating effects of affliction as well. He, somehow, allowed a smile to creep upon his face, realizing that he could not allow himself to be tainted with two detrimental affects, while Paragon only had one. It was not fair - even if Paragon only had one functional arm.

With all the might he could muster, Nemisis gathered the Force inwards once again, and released yet another burst of affliction on Paragon, hopefully worsening the effects on his fellow Sith brethren. Now, the tide would return back in favor of Nemisis, and he could battle his way to victory. That is, of course, if he did not collapse as a result of exhaustion before hand.

The Sith Warrior wanted to speak, he wanted to mock Darth Paragon just as Paragon would if he were in the position to do so. But, when he opened his mouth, no words came out; his throat was too dry and his tongue could barely move. The effects of affliction affected nearly all parts of his body. Nemisis knew he had to act quickly in order to gather a victory here. And he did that as best as he could, moving forth with his two blades in hand. With one blade, Paragon should easily be defeated, but Nemisis was sure he would still have something to pull off, and he would be wary of that. As he got within range of the two figures that happened to be Paragon in his mind, Nemisis used his right blade to feint an attack towards the left side of Paragon. In actuality, the attack was sent to the Sith Lord's right side by Nemisis' dark blue blade, arcing in towards the limp arm in an attempt to sever it completely. He aimed towards the center of the two blurred figures in front of him, simply hoping that he would connect with the right one.

    Noooooooo! I hate affliction. :(

    IC: Darth Paragon
    Triumphal Arch, Theed - Naboo

The power of the scream pushed Darth Nemisis back, and allowed the injured Sith to survive for a few more moments....but how much longer could he stave off death?

With one arm now useless, and the toxic effects of the dark side of the Force pulsing through his veins surely his time was limited.

This duel had planted a seed of doubt within his mind, and if he was not so consumed with pain and fatigue he would probably have began to wonder if he would be alive to even see the end of the duel.

As injured as he was however, there was an inner fire which drove him onward. Like a wounded animal, the Sith's mind was set on causing as much harm to his attacker as possible. If death was to be his fate, he was determined to not go into oblivion alone.

Again it was instinct which forced his actions, a mindless rage had consumed his being and pushed all reason from his thoughts. This is exactly what years of training had prepared him for, when faced with death Darth Paragon was more dangerous than ever.

Speed. That was what his body required, and his subconscious called for. The dark side, as always, provided. The Sith rolled back, head over heels, and came back to his knees only a few feet behind his original position.

As he once again settled into a kneeling position he saw Darth Nemisis attacking empty air, but unlike before he now felt no pleasure or superiority at being able to avoid the strike. In fact the Sith felt nothing other than the urge to survive.

His crippled hand, though useless to hold a weapon, could still be used to channel power. This is exactly what the Sith did and reached forward toward his opponent with his right arm, the sleeve tattered and his flesh charred.

A sudden burst of power escaped those now limp and crippled fingers, as blue lightning raced toward Darth Nemisis. The attack was not without cost to the Sith however, as now the pace of his affliction was doubled due to a second casting by his enemy....Darth Paragon was left all but drained of energy and life.

By either death or exhaustion....the Sith knew his fight would end soon.

Darth Nemisis, once again, became angered at himself. Instead of connecting with flesh and bone once more, the Sith Warrior was met with open space as Darth Paragon managed to escape a severed arm, rather than simply a useless arm. It seemed apparent that the Sith Lord had drawn on the power of the Force to speed his movements, it would seem as though there would be no way one could move that quickly without the aid of the Force while under affliction. Of course, he could have escaped due to the inaccuracy of Nemisis' attack. Perhaps the Sith Warrior simply missed his target, having been dizzied by the effects of the scream. In fact, his mind was still rattling.

Suddenly, Nemisis' hair on the back of his neck stood straight up as his danger sense kicked in, warning him of an incoming danger. He seen it before Paragon could even raise his hands, and used the Force to hurl his body into the air in a lunge that was sped up with aid from the Dark Side. He managed to clear enough distance as the blue white bolts of energy passed harmlessly by underneath him. Unfortunately, he did not jump as high as he had intended, obviously due to the effects of the affliction still degrading his body and he felt the heat of the lightning as he flipped in mid air.

The Sith Warrior came down awkwardly on his legs, his knees giving away due to their weakened state. Now on his knees, just out out of reach of Paragon - he had landed no more than four meters away - he searched his mind to come up with a plan in which he could use to catch the Sith Lord off guard. An idea instantly popped into his head and he immediately set to work implementing it. He hurled his left saber forth, pushing it with the Force to fly through the air at an unusual velocity. At the same time, with his extended left hand, a burst of Force energy poured forth, mirroring that of what Paragon had just attempted. The blue-white bolts of lightning zig-zagged its way over to Paragon.

Whether his plan succeeded, Nemisis did not know. Right as the last bolt of energy left his fingertips, he fell forward onto his hands, his exhaustion and the affliction taking its toll on his body. This plan should work. The blade would prove as a distraction for Paragon, and the lightning would smash into him like a semi-speeder carrying a ton of equipment and wield his cloak to his flesh in a painful, burning sensation. Nemisis finally looked up to see how well his plan had worked...

WADDA YOU MEAN I GOTTA GO FIRST?!?!?! **GULP!**

    [face_hypnotized]

    Oh well, here goes...

    AH, the Final Battle.

    Darth Nemisis vs. Darth Paragon.

I have truly enjoyed this, and I would like to say that I enjoyed having the chance to read these battles. With that said, I know the folks are waiting to hear comments, so..

    Here they are.

    Both

The opening for BOTH characters was very well done. They characters were done, and they even acknowledged the place that they were to do battle in. They Both came geared for battle, and even threw in a few great quips and barbs with each other. Loved the banter.

Both of you definatelly set up the stage, that there was one massive encounter on the way.

    :D

    :D

    *Grabs asbestoses cloak*

    Darth Nemisis.

I was with you until your third post.
You posted in your second post:

"With that, Nemisis walked forward at a steady pace; not slow, yet not too fast. Within moments, he was within reaching distance of his ally. Nemisis held his blade with both hands at shoulder height. In a flash, he sent it whizzing towards Paragons head. However, at the last second, the Sith Warrior switched to a one handed hold on his saber.

As if spawning from nowhere, a dark blue blade appeared in his left hand, mere inches away from his other blade. The blade had been concealed in the sleeve of his cloak, a technique he had picked up from Paragon himself in their last duel. His plan was to catch the Sith Lord off guard, to throw his timing off."

I read this as one blade right behind the other one. An attack for the neck. Nothing wrong here.

But then, in your third post, as Despised is doing a scissors attack to your midsection, as he had dropped to his knees, you state:

"That was when he brought his blades out, extending them forth and bringing them together in a move that would have cut Nemisis in half.

He purposefully landed closer than normal from his opponent."

Wait. First off, you were NOT in any forward motion at all. You had done a slow walk up to him, and then swung at his head. You didnt lunge at him, or say anything that indicated forward motion. You can swing a sword without moving your body forward. Which in your case was lucky. HAD you been moving forward, he probably would have sliced you in half. So you launched a force jump, from a dead stand still. The bottom half of your clothing should have DEFINATELLY caught a breeze, if not lost a yard or two from that. It would have been a bit more believable, if you had taken even a small hit...or close call.

Then, you stated that You landed "Several meters away, just out of rance, yet rather close...but then two sentences later, you claimed to land CLOSER than normal from him...."

Now, I know you are a powerful Sith, but unless you cloned yourself, you can not be in two places at once.

    hehehe..

    Next post:

"As he approached the Sith Lord, he gathered the Force inwards, building it up until it reached a point where he could no longer hold it in. With the thrust of his arms, a burst of Force energy shot forth towards Paragon. Nemisis then lunged forward, aided by the Force in order to shorten the distance between himself and his enemy."

I had to read at the bottom, to figure out you used push. Make sure to state actions IN the post, so it dosent disrupt the flow of your story.

    Hmmm..

Battle Precog, Jump, Speed, PUSH AND Lighting..All in one round??!?!?!?! Heck with one round. All in ONE MOVEMENT.

No.ESPECIALLY while battling Affliction...trying to do that much..back

Well Ktala basiclly said it all. I would like to point out that I felt that despised should have put a little more pain into his post. His arm is practically cut in half and he has two aflictions. Thats gotta be causing a bit of pain.

And I agree with Ktala and that last post of yours Nemisis. 5 powers is way too much to use in one post et alone one movemement like Ktala said.

But you both did a good job and I felt this was the most enjoyable match of the tournie.

But i have to pick some one so my vote goes to despised.

I'm not a parrot, so I won't bother repeating what has already been said, so I'll just touch on a few points here.

Good openings from both of you. Ktala already covered the major issues, so I'm going to mention something comparatively minor, but distracting. Word choice. There were a number of places where I think the word choice could have been a lot better, here. "Casting" Force powers, for one. These aren't exactly magic spells we're dealing with here, so I don't think that it was the best thing to say. darth_nemisis, couple of issues with your wording. Calling your opponent a Sith Lord and yourself a Sith Warrior seemed rather odd, to me, felt like you were placing your opponent above yourself.

Also, this part came across rather strangely: "he reached into the Force and sent a sense of nasty feelings towards his ally", sorry, but that just completely ruined the serious atmosphere for me. While I do think that Despised1 should have been a lot worse off from nearly losing his arm (probably half-dead), since that seems to be a finishing blow going by the movies, and running on instinct and subconscious seemed to need a bit of suspension of disbelief for me, there was still great roleplaying from both of you.

So, in the end, great duel, not a whole lot else that can be said. It was a close one, with good and bad points divided almost evenly between the two players, but the issues Ktala mentioned are what just tip the balance slightly here. With that, I give my vote to Despised1. Congratulations! =D=
