(On board the Drit'mis'va; Chiss Flag Ship; Flanking line between the Killik and Csilla)

?Grand Admirmal.? Jag?s voice was droned, almost dismissive, as the leader of the Galactic Alliance moved ahead of his four large Chiss escorts to join the Supreme Commander at the helm brace of the Carrack-class cruiser, Drit'mis'va.

?Supreme Commander.? Pellaeon nodded once and only slightly in acknowledgment while placing both hands on the rail and turning his attention to the full system scan that occupied the large viewing screen forward. He toyed with a façade of mirth seeing how unimpressed his young counterpart was concerning his personal arrival.

Like father like son, he mused silently. The young Fel was cunning. That he knew. But, it was a pleasure to see some of the inborn traits of Soontir on display. Rank was to be obeyed, but not coddled. Jagged Fel, he opined, was not prone to indulge anyone unless it was deserved or necessary.

?I dare say that we are approaching my favorite portion of any battle.?

Shawnkyr arched a single brow and half-turned to take in the older human?s face. A slight smile was just noticeable on the Grand Admiral?s countenance.

Without turning, Pellaeon felt her curious scrutiny and the smile widened in response.

?Definition, Commander Nuruodo.? A slight tug at his white embroidered sleeve emphasized the comment. ?We are about to define the outcome of this battle as an artist would characterize his piece. You have chosen the canvass. Together we have intertwined the colors into a selected design. It is now that we have the honor of christening the work as complete.? The smile widened further still as he turned to face her fully. ?Ah?perhaps a few touch-ups here and there to perfect the effort, but for all intents and purposes?completion through creative definition.? He looked to the representation of the Admiral Ackbar on the system scan as a precursor while he spoke.

Jag nodded in approval of the analogy and offered up a miniscule smile of his own seeing the skepticism from his second in command.

?You see a field commander as an artisan, Grand Admiral??

?Of course. That is what we are.? The white haired mustachioed veteran of countless engagements shrugged. ?Yet, your father might disagree with that position.? He chuckled under his breath. ?The Assistant Syndic used to scowl at me when I made such comparisons long ago and he was a newly made commander. He once suggested that I would do better to compare a military leader to a fence post?barely functional and not imperative since there were many such?posts.? Pellaeon nearly laughed with the words and lowered his voice for effect. ?He said this in front of Grand Admiral Thrawn, I might add.?

Jag turned fully as did Shawnkyr in this unexpected revelation. Both were aghast at such a breach in protocol and decorum could come from Assistant Syndic General Baron Fel in the presence of Thrawn.

?It is true; I assure you.? Pellaeon nodded. ?Of course, there was the unfortunate detail that your father had warned both of us not to press our assault in that particular engagement; and we did so regardless. We lost a number of our reconnaissance vessels needlessly, and he was a bit more than angry. I believe it was an operation somewhere in the vicinity of Bimmiel.? Pellaeon shrugged before removing the grin and nodded. ?Artists make mistakes, and sometimes it is necessary to make slight adjustments to salvage the painting?even start over occasionally.?

?A fence post?? Jag questioned, still having difficulty placing the words with his father.

?Mitth'raw'nuruodo pulled me aside after your father had left the bridge.? Pellaeon?s smile returned. ?He said that, ordinarily, there would be repercussions when someone had the audacity to compare a Grand Admiral to a fence post. However, in this case, one must sometimes overlook protocol and pay closer attention to the truth.? He tugged ag

The artistry has returned; I enjoyed the story about Soontir from his time with Thrawn. My favorite part here was Kyp and Jacen, the comedic pairs you created here are wonderful.

Great Pelleaon/Jag moment. I loved the story about Soontir and Thrawn.

Liked Kyp and Kyle calling Jacen expendable, especially after the Admirals commented negatively on his maneuver.

I like to see Jacen being a screw-up. He use to be so good at it.

    More soon? [face_praying]

PRINCESS CAMBRIA: Yippie...your back with this beauty!!!! I've missed it.

I, kind of, missed it too.

I loved the definitions of a commander as an artisan and a fence post...Pellaeon is one of my favorite characters and you do him well.

Thrawn's legacy...and I'm thinking that we'll see more Pellaeon in the Canon LOTF series as well, despite his uncharacteristic departure in "Bloodlines." My guess is that we will next see him on Nirauan... [face_thinking]

I enjoyed the banter between Kyp/Jacen/Kyle....too funny.

    Looking forward to more soon

I think you'll like what comes up later with Kyp and Jacen...Kyle too (who will be paired with R2 and C3PO...) :D

Any more of your stories you might be reviving soon...humm?

Which one did you have in mind? I think I have...hmmmm...four pending (not including this one)... Thanks for reading and the comments.

JAYNASOLOFEL: The artistry has returned; I enjoyed the story about Soontir from his time with Thrawn. My favorite part here was Kyp and Jacen, the comedic pairs you created here are wonderful.

Thanks for the 'welcome back'...been kind of busy and mobile...However, I should be able to set some time aside to finish up this one. Incidentally, there still is quite a way to go before the credits roll. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment...(and your patience).

SENTENAL: Well worth the wait, but please not so long on the next update. I don't think I could handle it.

    Welcome back, Trep!!

Ahhh...the next update shall arrive in very short order. The story has been written for a while. I, only, tweek and edit when I post....So, the next will be up in a day or so. The trick is to be home to do it...which has been difficult this summer. Thanks for reading.

You have excellent timing. It will be posted on a regular basis from this point forward...but not on specific days....which means it could be two or three posts a week (or more). Glad you enjoying. Lots of good stuff to come...and a 'cameo' you might not expect...Two cameos, actually. o_O

Thanks for the nice thoughts. And, yes, you will receive a "conclusion of some sort" to this epic journey. Actually, it is a multi-pronged conclusion with some surprises...Lots more to come I'm afraid.

PADAWANLOST: Great Pelleaon/Jag moment. I loved the story about Soontir and Thrawn.

I read somewhere that Thrawn was the only military leader that had the "audacity" to stand up to Palpatine and disagree with his strategy (for which he was punished...but vindicated). I thought that he would appreciate Soontir's candor (hand on the other foot).

Liked Kyp and Kyle calling Jacen expendable, especially after the Admirals commented negatively on his maneuver.

Having read Bloodlines...it's fun to beat up on Jacen a bit. Also, I tried to make him a bit more likable here.

I like to see Jacen being a screw-up. He use to be so good at

DON'T appologize for there being much more to come!
JUST keep it coming! It has been a most enjoyable ride so far!
Kinda like a great roller coaster, you never quite get rid of the slight knotting in the stomach or the exhileration from the speed and gravity defying curves.
So it has been with reading this!
Congrats on a piece of masterful writing.

(On board the Millennium Falcon inside the rear hanger bay of the Return to Sender)

The Enforcer-class picket ship, Return to Sender, lumbered awkwardly along the port side hull of the Admiral Ackbar and listed at a 30 degree down angle to starboard as if the stabilizers controlling the thrust output of the massive Kuat Drive Yards manufactured auxiliaries were misfiring. Splotches of charring from a multitude of engagements covered the aging, svelte, triangular hull of the cruiser, and gave the impression of long, hard service. The cumulative superficial damage was so extensive that distinguishing the old spoil from the most recent was nearly impossible.

For all parties aboard the Killik occupied Admiral Ackbar, it appeared to be an ailing craft requiring assistance, and safe harbor for its occupants; believed to hold what was left of the Gorog assault force sent to annihilate the Jedi Joiners on Trast III. An immediate personnel transfer had been approved.

The Millennium Falcon sat facing the rear hanger bay exit hatch of the Return to Sender in calm anticipation of planned events. The vice shaped mandibles of the old freighter pointed outward, repulsors warming in a consistent release. The scene showed no anxiety or hurried activity. Inside the Falcon was a pure dichotomy.

Platoon sized teams of emotionless Chiss commandos worked their equipment and studied mapping readouts in tandem to their specific assignments. The repetitive nature of the continued preparation gave the impression of hurried aptitude. A wealth of power packs, datapads and curious looking armaments littered most of the holds. In contrast, the cockpit contained a lounging pilot with his feet up on the console while polishing some imaginary shine to an antiquated blaster. To his right sat a frozen figure meditating in advance of a perceived arduous path ahead. Just behind the meditating figure was one matching only in actions, as the Barabel joined her apprentice in the caress of the Force.

Just behind the pilot sat the diminutive blond-haired Jedi offering no emotion but a face painted in seriousness.

?Aren?t you going to?uh??? Han tipped his head to Leia while picking up Tahiri?s reflection in the front viewer. ?Me? I don?t see the point of calming myself just before combat. Then again, I was reared by Wookiees.?

?We know what we must do.? There was no delay in the response, but then a pause. ?What is the Wookiee?philosophy??

Han raised a brow and caught a slight stirring from his wife to his side. He was pretty sure Tahiri was patronizing him having fought along side Lowie in the past. Still, Lowie was not a pure Wookiee fighter. He applied limits.

?Let?s just say that you don?t want to wear new clothes when fighting beside a Wookiee. It has a tendency to get messy. Calm has nothing to do with it.? Han breathed out. ?The only ?Force? I?m consulting has an illegal military power cell and some creative circuitry.?

Tahiri leaned around the high back of the captain?s bucket and managed a sly expression of amusement seeing the stock of the oversized pistol being buffed over and over.

    ?We think it?s clean.?

Han appeared confused before catching her meaning and glancing down at the old DL-44.

?Huh?oh?? He shrugged. ?Yeah, well, last time I had it out it got some bug guts on it, and I don?t want it to damage the finish.?

Tahiri was convinced that there hadn?t been any finish on the antiquated blaster in over 30 standard years, but kept her amusement to herself. The instance was broken as Cem Fel returned to the cockpit followed by C3PO. He was glancing at a datapad in his hand while sporting something close to a scowl.

?Would you mind keeping your droid out of our way?? Cem glanced up from the datapad. ?He keeps going on and on about the difficulty of the mission, and I am afraid that my men are going to open a full discussion with him. Chiss do not appreciate dro

?This is either going to be the shortest assault in military history, or we are going to be??successful??and place ourselves in a sea of angry bugs.? Han snorted. ?I?m getting too old for this echuta.?

Cem chuckled as he left the cockpit for the second time. ?At least you have the excuse of age in this task.? He turned at the hatch. ?Me? On the other hand. I can only mark it up to stupidity.?

Cem Fel is one of my fav's with his dry wit. [face_laugh]

    Trepidation,
Ut-Oh! Trap!!! I am glad Jacen believed his twin. Great tense action, I can't wait to find out what the Gorog Jedi have planned for the Chiss/Jedi/GA team, I hope Jaina can redeem herself and maybe win back some trust in the coming battle.

Threepio getting on Cem's nerves is great, poor Han almost had to come to the droid's defense - that would burn him, hunh?

Oh, 3P0. It is a surprise that droid hasn't caused several wars.

I liked how you managed to sneak in another classic line. "Fly casual" is one of the best utterances out of frustration.

Also, didn't Ackbar yell "It's a trap!" in RoJ? When I read it I heard his voice even though Jaina said it. :p
Oh boy... that made it a bit funnier than you probably intended.

    Nice job as usual, Trep.
