Until we hear differently, I still consider TCW pretty much G-canon.

There's lots of stuff in it that Lucas came up with, even if other people designed and directed it and it might have gotten silly in places. But hey, just take a look at the movies, it's not like they are one cohesive mass to begin with. So if Lucas wants Anakin to have had a Padawan, the Jedi to have run around in partial armor and no cloaks up until the Battle of Coruscant where everything's strangely back to normal, and Cad Bane to possibly contradict the EU, that's the way Lucas' "canon" is structured.

The ST, in that regard, will be in the same vein, since he came up with the concept. After that, the idea of G-Canon is just as much up the creek as the EU will most probably be. They won't make the spin-off films with Lucas' input forever. A Han backstory I can see being based on some notes and interview snippets to get basic guidelines right, but beyond that it's every continuity for itself. Don't get me wrong, it will still be an "official film continuity" like they still try to glue all X-Men movies together, but the expression "G-canon" will be so early 21st century.

[Edit] Just thought of Babylon 5, where the creator gave input for later novels to "canonically" enhance the series continuity, and cherrypicking two of an overall nine old novels to be accepted into his official world view (and wait for it, one at 99 and one at 70 percent - if that's not creative control obsession I don't know what is). I think that's a good outside reflection of the way Lucas probably accepted some works by other creators in line with his vision since he kicked that stuff off with a set of guidelines, while others do nothing for him since he could only give a few commandments (e.g. the big three shall not die) and otherwise couldn't execute creative control. He probably got Jedi Trial as a present once and swore to contradict that as much as possible, and thus was born TCW.

NJO: Vector Prime , Balance Point, Star by Star, Destiny's Way, Unifying Force

i can see why you picked these as they are pivotal novels. but i would throw in Traitor, and The Final Prophecy in their as well. great books, and Conquest was pretty awesome too

True. G-canon will morph into D-canon with time.

Especially Traitor. That book is a crucial part in Jacen's hero's journey.

I've heard the rumor that Abrams might drop out stated elsewhere. But I think that Latino-Review said the fake casting call was legit. I think they need to follow through on the Episode II rumor and cast Justin Timberlake.

The sad thing is that JT is actually a pretty active actor nowadays, and that possibility is not too outlandish.

Ryan Gosling is a fantastic actor . . . who isn't going to be in the sequels, because there is no way this level of speculation is not pointless.

But... Latino-Review broke the story that Harrison Ford was returning for Episode VII!

Nevermind that it hasn't actually been confirmed.

After seeing beyond the Pines, Gosling would be a huge coup as the lead, since he has the good looks that Hollywood love but also real acting ability and a great screen presnence.

OTOH remember the great news that Natalie Portman and Sam Jackson when they first signed on for the PT, which sunk the second they both hit the screen.

As for Abrhams meh a by the numbers journey man, who uses Len's flares and directly copies superior films for his own inferior works, losing him would not be a big loss.

For me the issue with E7 and the whole ST is not G-Cannon etc but whether it's a a good film with great script/story and characters with great locations that feel like you are transported to other worlds, thats what counts.
