Lit A/V The Force Awakens and the EU [TAGGED spoilers.]

Honestly I don't buy it for a second. Any EU, even Story Group-sanctioned EU, will always be subservient to the films. All I see Pabland Hidalchee saying is that they're going to be a lot more cautious with the EU 2.0 to make it consistent with itself and ensure it doesn't step on the movies' toes. They'll try to avoid doing anything that future films could conceivably contradict in the first place, not blaze new trails secure in the knowledge that the movies will have to follow their lead. I doubt even they seriously believe they're setting up a system where the events of a short story published in the Insider next year will force a complete rewrite of the Davin Felth spinoff film coming out in 2030.

 

Davin Felth should be in the ST.

 

If he's not I'll shout at the top of my lungs "LOOK SIR, DROIDS!" from the time the credits roll until the lights come up.

 

In my experience there'll be someone doing that anyway.

 

The thing I remember from the prequel trilogy midnight releases was for someone

the eu is critical to read to me. take away Shadows of the Empire and the classic trilogy is a more confusing place. I alwasy wondered when i saw the ROTJ in theaters in 1983. I wondered how did Luke go from being weak and mentally and spiritually unprepared to being a bold, confident Jedi. An EU book is the answer. It brings light to an otherwise darkened universe

 

I don't foresee anything directly contradicting SotE.

I think it´s pretty safe to asume that is Chewie returns the whole EU from NOJ will be non-canon. But I wonder what are they going to do with the pre-19 ABY EU. If I had to interpret the rumors, I´d say Anakin Solo won´t be on the ST neither.

 

I mean, they could always establish that Chewie miraculously survived somehow, and have him reunite with everyone after the Vong War. It would be pretty unbelievable and comic booky, but they could do it.

 

i feel certain that Chewie will have never had a moon crash on him. it wont be retconned, it will be ignored completely as never happening

 

I think it's best to start from a position of total reboot, then be pleasantly surprised when certain things stick around. If they're throwing out 80% of the EU, better to be 20% happy than 80% disappointed.

 

That sounds like a positively sensible idea.

No one gave a crap about Tatooine in 0 BBY, but that might not be the case in 34 ABY.

 

Was it Darksaber that had a Skywalker Tour of all the places on Tatooine associated with Luke's life? I always liked that concept. In my mind it was clearly organized by Star Tours, too.
