Yes I know about the young Indiana Jones series. I was just wondering why Lucas Books never decided to make more Literature for Indy as it does with SW.

I mean there could be a whole series of books about what Indy is doing between films, Maybe novels about Henry Jones on an adventure. The possiblities are endless.

Could you imagine Matthew Stover writing a really dark novel about Indy?

I just think it would be interesting if they had some Indy novels.

    Thoughts?

I agree. The Indy merchandising machine needs a good kick in the behind to get it going again. A book series could do the the trick.

Maybe they'll start around just before Indy 4 comes out.

Yeah, get some interest back into the series.

You guys want to discuss any possible plots for any possible novels?

The problem is that a story in the star wars universe can have the main character as any one of 20 or so players.

An Indiana Jones book can only have one lead character, which in turn limits a lot of creativity when it comes to plot.

I don't think all of the books have to focus on Indy.

Some could be about Marion Ravenwood and her father.
Others could be about Henry Jones Senior
There could be a Belloq book.

But yes most of the books would focus on Indy.

A Marion Ravenwood trilogy would be interesting
    or a Belloq Trilogy.

I beg to differ. I really do.

I like the mystery of these characters in the movies, do they really need a star-warsesque EU backstory?

JP, I agree that the mystery is good,
I have never said they need a backstory.

Why can't there novel trilogy take place after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I don't won't to know too much about their early lives, just about a future adventure.

A future trilogy about Belloq, set post Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Uhh, I admit I've not watched the movie in a while, but doesn't Belloq, y'know, die?

Yes Belloq dies...that comment was more about Marion Ravenwood.

Even if there was a trilogy about Belloq set before Raiders of the Lost Ark, it would not have to take away from the mystery of his character.

    That is just my opinion.
Certain characters are so great because of their mystery like Yoda, Palpatine and James Bond....I really don't think Belloq is one of them. Adding to his character would not be a bad thing, in my opinion.

I'm just trying to provide some examples, where Indy novels would not have to focus on Henry Junior.

Do you honestly believe there's a market for those kinds of books?

Indiana Jones is a very popular trilogy of movies, hence the reason why they are making Indy 4. Do I think the books will sell? YES
After all some SW books have nothing to do with the movie characters and are still best sellers, such as some of the NJO books like Traitor.

Anything can be successful if it's done right.

Why not cash in on America's love affair with Asians and make a book about Shorty becoming the next Indy? It would sell. It really would.

I would really enjoy a well written Indy book right about now.

    Guys,

There has been a series of books, I read them about 10 years ago. There were 6 by one author named and these books were linked, had continuity. Indy gets married and then widowed. I liked them quite a bit.

Then more by two other authors were made. Indiana Jones and the Sky Pirates failed to hold my interest, the style was similar but the fun was not the same, so by the time this new author's second book came, Indiana Jones and the White Witch, I completely lost interest.

The complete list is as follows:

    By Rob MacGregor
Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi
Indiana Jones and the Dance of the Giants
Indiana Jones and the Seven Viels
Indiana Jones and the Unicorn's Legacy
Indiana Jones and the Genesis Deluge
Indiana Jones and the Interior World

    By Martin Caiden
Indiana Jones and the Sky Pirates
Indiana Jones and the White Witch

    By Max McCoy
Indiana Jones and the Philospher's Stone
Indiana Jones and the Dinosaur Eggs
Indiana Jones and the Hollow Earth
Indiana Jones and the Secret of the Sphinx

I recommend the first 6, and the Sky Pirates was ok, but I cannot vouch for the last 5.

    Happy reading!

I thought you were joking, but it exists! I guess Indy beat Mr Potter to it!

Just another piece of evidence that JK Rowling never had an original idea in her little head.

    Thanks for the info.

"I was just wondering why Lucas Books never decided to make more Literature for Indy as it does with SW. "

Because the Jones'series did not sell as well long term as the SW books did.

The Jones books seem to have had a good intial sale, but then fell sharply off and there has not been a new one for about five years now. If they were finiacially profitable, the series would still be alive.
