The Procedures and Conduct was put together by Pashatemur and myself for GAW IV

    PROCEDURES

    1. Your goal is to write convincingly and credibly. Use good conduct and follow the rules of the thread and of the Role Playing Forum.

    2.
    a. To enter the game, consult the Library Thread for GALAXY AT WAR: Episode V: Emergence for Character Sheet (CS), lists of characters, factions, availability, map, technological specifications and general information.

    b. Submit a character sheet(s) (CS) and a first post draft via PM to the GM.. Upon receipt of the GM’s approval, you may begin posting.

c.Synopsis, back stories and cultural and organizational histories may also be sent to the GM for posting in the Library Thread.

    d. Returning writers – Incorporate your plot synopsis briefly in your introductory posts to avoid frontloading the thread and overwhelming other players.

    3. Observe proper grammar, punctuation and spelling, and please, no “e-mail” short hand or “leet-speak,” e.g., Zomgz0rz and 4|?D teh |1|<3, etc., or you will be sent to the principal’s office – joking.

    4. No God mode-ing – You may not “control” the actions and outcomes of characters other than your own without the express permission of the character’s author in which case, both you and the other writer must post a statement via PM to that effect to the GM.

    6. No creation and/or assuming of super-technologies, abilities, or weapons beyond the reasonable scope of your character. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis upon discussion with the GM.

    7. Out of character comments (OOC) are used to convey administrative, technical, or general game notices and information. They are inappropriate to airing your complaints. Avoid using them to share witticisms unless you have the GM’s express approval. Brief encouraging comments to your fellow gamers, however, are welcome.

    8. Absolutely no public posting of grievances will be allowed. It doesn’t solve problems, is disruptive, inflammatory and thus, counterproductive and demoralizing. Reconcile your disputes in an amicable fashion via PM. If you need help, go to your co-GM and if unavailable or unable to resolve the issue, the Game Master (GM) is your last resort and the ultimate authority in game.

    9. Begin your post by identifying your character and location and end your post, by requesting the interaction of the desired characters as in the following example:
    [ul]
    IC: Anakin Skywalker, Jedi Knight
    LOCATION: Cato Neimoidia, Hatcheries

    body of post...

TAG: General Obi wan Kenobi, Commander Cody, ARC[/ul]
    10. Keep current with the thread (ask your fellow players and read), respond to TAGs to your characters and answer your private messages in a timely fashion. Repeated failures result in disinterest and soon you’ll find your characters and plot irrelevant.

    11. Give “power of play” to another gamer if you anticipate being unavailable for an extended period. Wrap up your plots and notify your GM via PM.

    12. Credit your sources when using other’s work by making a notation at the bottom of your posts. Do not plagiarize. Do not use undeclared “socks” or guest writers. Do not submit characters under false guise in any way. You will be banned from the game if you do any of these things!

    CONDUCT
    [ul]
[li]The apprentice, Zi gong once asked of his Master: "Is there any one word that could guide a person throughout life?"[/li]
Master Kung Qui replied: "How about 'shu', reciprocity: never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself?"[/li]
    [/ul]
Allow “your” actions to be guided by constraint of common sense, good manners and observe the rules of nature and the laws of physics unless a logical way for acting differently is well delineated.
    [ul]
[li]“The warrior’s tool is an extension of the self, by its wielding shall you be known, let it not be a clumsy inarticulate thing!”[/li]
    [/ul]
The enjoyment of a character driven game of writing depends on the suspension of disbelief. If your character is impervious to time, blasts, and the foibles of being mortal (even if your character is a spirit), such lack of personal challenge to your character usually results in lack of interest and interaction from other writers’ characters and from readers. Keep it real!

Take care to be clear and descriptive in your writing. Stir us with your words. Unless characteristic of the individual or situation, single lined posts are poor gaming.

If your character isn’t within the sphere of another, even if they have the power to suddenly “materialize,” observe the chain of command and social protocols appropriate for your character and those with whom you wish your character to interact.

Assuming knowledge for your characters to which they are not privy or have no supported and credible way of obtaining, robs your plots of suspense, the game of dramatic tension, and ultimately robs you of your challenge and your peers of enjoyment in a worthy player. If the knowledge is critical, then take the opportunity to craft a credible way of obtaining it and produce an exciting plot.
    [ul]
[li]“The quill is mightier than the sword”[/li]
    [/ul]
No rewriting of history. Once you have characterized your characters and plots involving other writer’s creations in your own, do not suddenly change direction or ask for a “do over.” This muddies the game. Be creative and write your way out of the dilemma. Don’t drop your characters and plots; accept the challenges presented your character. It makes for engaging narrative.
    [ul]
[li]“Under the sword lifted high, there is hell making you tremble. But go ahead, and you have the land of bliss." – Master Musashi[/li]
    [/ul]
Do not renege on supporting your character’s inferred responsibilities and abilities. For example, if you are a Guardian, be prepared to write about movement and timing and don’t bore the reader with techno-jargon. If you are a pilot and your Commander heads into battle, do not suddenly contract a little known disease to avoid writing battle sequence. Again, if you do not know, ask, research. “Man up” and live by your sword!

The Game Master works to provide you with rich ground in which to grow your characters and plots. However, you’ve got to walk on your own. Please do not turn constantly to the GM to generate and fuel your individual gaming. GAW IV has an epic setting with plenty of material upon which to build and “hitch your wagon.”

Accept the consequences of your character’s actions!

Remember, while you are expected to write convincingly to attain your goals and those of your faction, this is a game. Enjoy!
