The Game Group Introduction Welcome to the Game Group. If you're a Game Master or you want to be, then you're in the right place. In this thread we discuss everything to do with being a GM. That includes, but is not exclusive to: designing a game, writing an opening post, attracting players, accepting sheets, running a game, working with co-GMs, dealing with player departures and ending a game. We will also discuss general gaming "philosophy" (for example, the merits of large, sandbox-style games versus smaller, more linear games) as these discussions normally take place from the GM viewpoint. At any given moment we will have an item on the operating table, be it a game proposal, a slice of theory or a competition. Everything else will be placed in the waiting room until it gets a chance to surrender to our collective scalpel. Every item will get a week on the operating table, roughly speaking. We're all about flexibility, so if a discussion is going very well or very slowly, we can adjust the time limit accordingly. It's okay for simultaneous discussions to take place, as long as the general focus remains on our item of the week. If you want to get something into the waiting room, either add it yourself to the bottom of the current list or start a Conversation with me and I'll do it. Priority is given to your contributions (e.g. opening posts that you want to discuss) over challenges and so on, and they will be shunted up the list as appropriate. As this community's primary hub for analysis and discussion, anything of your own creation that you post about in here is considered fair game for critique. So if you don't want other people's opinion on it, don't mention it. In addition, all feedback regarding another user's idea is expected to be constructive in nature. Suggestions for improvement are welcome. Blunt put-downs are not. As founder of this incarnation of the group, I will serve as an administrator and chairperson. Above my head are the forum moderators. Do not be fooled by their cuddly exterior. Their wrath is swift and terrible- so try not to give them reason to bring it down upon us. Play nice with each other and don't steal ideas.
