well well well. someone had to hack my icq it seems. if i find out exactly who did this, you're going to end up with fried electronics, even if i have to fly down to you and smash your computer myself.

anyways. my old account at 12188941 refuses to work. i installed icq 2000b and upgraded my non-working 2000a account, but still no luck. my roommates icq 2000a works fine and he has no problems connecting. i was in the middle of transfering a file from him when my icq froze, it refused to work, but after rebooting several times i got it to work, then it crashed again. then i couldn't get it to work at all. icq server is fine, school server is fine, my other settings are the same as they always were...this is compelete BS.

so i hastily uninstalled icq completely from my system, (um, neglecting the fact that I had 50+ contact on my machine, some from friends long gone that i'll never be able to get authorized again) rebooted, installed icq 2000b, tried to active my old account, couldn't establish connection, Blah blah blah.

so i signed up for a new account, some ungodly number over 100 million, that wasn't easy to memorize like my old number (which I have had memorized for over 3 bloody years. And the strangest thing is; it worked.

so, whoever did it, i dare you to create a new alias here at tfn and post here. if you didn't i would not recommend claiming respondibilty for this act because (any further words on this would have to be edited here). hope you have some money saved up, let's just say, and i will pursue you with until it results in a highly negative outcome 4 you.

i've got a new number that works, but its not going to be released at this time.

in the even the someone didn't hack my icq, well, i'll keep trying. all i know is that these icq hacks exist, i've seem them, and you can better believe that they will be in my possession shortly just incase. among other things.

or maybe, this has just been a long monday.

i might have found a lead, i'm pursing it now. it seems possible i might be close to isolating the problem, and it might not have anything to do with anyone else.

but not my fault either. might have found a bug with icq that i'm going to have to report, that involves it not being smart enough to recover after a crash, and it possiblity involves my previous installation procedures with it.

if any of you want a game you're going to have to pm me till i get this worked out.

well to start things off, icq crashed while i was recieving a very large file from my roomate. this crash completely screwed my icq, somehow, someway. this is the root of the problem. it just wouldn't let me back on no matter what i would do. so i completely uninstalled icq (or so i thought) with the autoinstall, and reinstalled. it left behind old files that conflicted with the new ones, however, and that prevented me from logging on till i poked around and saw of all things duplicate uins as well as my older number showing up in other folders. after i manually deleted EVERYTHING this time i was able to reinstall correctly, albeit with a completely naked contact list.

No, ICQ is better. Every messaging program has its bugs and that is one of ICQ's. And a particularly nasty one at that.

    For the other thing....

Just thought I'd point that out. =)

to be fair, the average user of icq probably doesn't make transfers of a 600+ MB file at rates approaching 1GB/sec. that's what was happening when it crashed. :]

hey, at least he didn't mention aol... which reminds me... 2000b automatically installs a Free AoL icon on your bloody desktop. you'll have to go into your icq folder and delete the entire folder called Aod, within that folder contains all AOL crap, that ensures when you delete the AOL icon on your desktop it will reinstall itself next time you boot up. Evil. they couldn't of course name the folder Aol, that would be too bloody obvious, the bastards wanted hide the source as long as possible so that the only way people would figure they could rid themselves of that AOL peace of crap was to click the icon and find out more.

yep, AOL really does own icq and they have for a while. it's only a matter of time before we see the death of our beloved program, most likely in some horrific morphing as it is slowly but surely going through.

    i bloody hate AOL.

Hmm, you have quite a bit of hostility towards AOL.

That icon popped up as soon as I installed it. I immediately sent the icon to its death. But it never popped up again even though I didn't delete the folder. But I just deleted it for good measure. =)

edit: i'm home from school, so i'm just flipping through the channels and that screensaver show was on techtv. the dude calls in and says he has this internet problem relate to icq. the two hosts of the show went on for a little on how icq is buggy and keeps getting buggier on every update and such. they say that they've had 4 years to get it right, but it's still one of the buggiest programs out there. oh well. it's still better than everything else out there.

"Hmm, you have quite a bit of hostility towards AOL."

no, its just brotherly love. i take jabs at 'em every once in a while, but deep down i love them for a being a monoply that's a respresentation of internet newbies that's trying to push itself into a more serious and dedicated computer market (where i reside) buying out programs i like, eventually phasing them out or morphing them so they can monopolize them and force me to deal with all their advertising, bs, and internet newbie crap, all the while attempting to prevent other companies from putting at anything that might actually be better and with less mind-numbing commercialism. :D

come'here, AOL! family hug! *reaches out with one hand to embrace AOL, hides dagger behind his back with the other*

Dan, I don't think he has any more hostility towards AOL than you do towards MSN. :)

I really need to get my Direct TV hooked back up. I don't watch much TV, but ZDTV was the one channel I could watch for hours. Especially the Screensavers, Call For Help, and Gamepot.

Yes MSN sucks and so does its sucky messenger. Nobody should ever get MSN. It's a waste of money. Get Earthlink or Mindspring if you're forced into dial-up modems.
