I was just reminiscing about watching the winter Olympics as a kid with my family. Or course, at that time, there wasn't any smart phones, tablets, computers and whatnot to watch TV. Heck, the average household still only own one TV and it probably had a maximum of 5-6 TV channels and that's including the UHF ones. So my family would gather in front of the TV and watch things together. And since there wasn't any internet or onscreen programming guides, I had to rely on the newspaper and TV Guide. I remember looking at the new issue of TV Guide and circling the shows that I plan to watch that week. It seems to ancient the way I grew up in comparison to today.

 

Yeah, now it's not circling shows in order, it's "what's on" or "what can I binge." The romantic in me misses those days.

 

Right!? There was something to those days when you had to wait and watch a TV when it aired, as there were no DVRs or VCRs or OnDemand programming. So the Olympics were event TV. Much like the limited series "Shogun," "Roots," "The Day After Tomorrow," and "The Thorn Birds." Speaking of limited TV Series/event TV, "V" is being remade again.

 

Everyone in school looked forward to it. "Hey! You set to watch ------ tonight??" The one thing I don't miss is if you couldn't watch for whatever reason, you just missed out.
