On Thursday, Japanese scientists off the coast of Japan's Bonin Island captured the first pictures of a live 26-foot long giant squid in the wild. The squid was caught live on a camera attacking a bit of bait hanging off a cable attached to the camera which had been operating in the sea since the end of October 2004. In the struggle the Giant Squid lost part of its tenticle before swimming off into the deep.

    Poor Squid! [face_beatup]
