ST The good faction, and it's iconography?

I wonder if the Republic will use the TPM senate guard uniform to symbolize a return to the pre-Palpatine era.

 

I think Galactic Federation would be a good name, but it would sound too much like Star Trek.

When the Third Reich fell, Germany went back to the flag of the Weimar Republic, so I could definitely see the New Republic using the symbolism of the Valorum era Republic.

 

I'd vote for either the Galactic Republic or plain ole' Republic. I always thought New Republic a bit too close to New Order.

 

I think a "New Republic" made sense before the prequel trilogy, but I don't think we want to go back there after seeing what the old one was like.

I actually do think they would look hard at getting a "Fed" word in there somewhere. If I may make a brief real-life political remark without blowing up this thread: to Hollywood liberals, federal authority is good, while state authority is neutral at best. I think that to symbolize that the bad times are over, their minds would reach for "Federal" or maybe "Union" to symbolize good authority rather than the unresponsive world of the Republic.

While I don't mind having Federation in there, I feel a lot of regular science fiction fans it would sound too much like the Federation in "Star Trek."

I have a feeling we're not going to get anywhere near the Senate in the ST.

Seems like JJ & the producers are trying to return to the outlying-worlds aesthetic of the OT, and to get away from the polish and politics of the PT.

 

I doubt it. The symbols and uniforms of the Republic were very similar to those of the Empire, and the audience might get confused if they just return to the visual cues of the PT. Plus, they should really (and undoubtedly will) make new symbols and details for a new trilogy.
