Obi-Wan also mentions a 'great disturance in the force' when Alderran is destroyed.

Oh, there are, I was joking. You have to move up the hierarchy of the Jedi Order, take a Padawan, train him, etc...I don't know the specifics, but you know it has to be like any other "Order," there are certain things you must do to advance.

That's one way, yoshifett. Like Palpatine said, "The Sith and the Jedi are similar in almost every way...including their quest for greater power." They both are basically fighting for the same thing: domination.

"Good can exist without evil, but whereas evil cannot exist without good." [face_skull] [face_praying]

The way it works in the Jedi is that there are Younglings. They are trained by certain Masters in not only the ways of the Force, but in school teachings as well. The Younglings are also Padawans as well. The Padawan then is paired up with a Knight or Master, for the next several years. When the Knight/Master and the Council agree that it's time for the Padawan to take the Trials, they begin at the discretion (sp) of the Knight/Master. Once the Padawan has succeeded, they become a Knight. In time, once a Knight has proven that they are ready to be a Master, they are then made one. Once there is an opening on the Council, a Master will be nominated and voted on. The Council always votes which is like a democracy.

The Sith are bound by the Master and Apprentice tennets. When the Master dies, the Apprentice becomes the Master and the cycle continues. Sometimes that Apprentice will kill the Master, feeling that they've learned everything that they can. Other times, the Apprentice will wait until the Master dies. If the Master finds another Apprentice, he will pair the two against each other. Whoever is left standing, will continue on as his Apprentice.

OK I see that, but why the surge with Anakin raising higher in skill number than Obi-Wan. This must be the part where he wanted more?

Anakin made it a point to become the most powerful Jedi ever. In training himself to be stronger than he was on Geonosis, Anakin has brought himself up through the ranks to reach the potential that he's destined for. But by using his emotions to get their, he's made himself stronger than he needs to be at this point. He reaches a point where he can be consumed by the Dark Side. Yoda and Mace have spent years learning to how to be as powerful as they are, while in control of their emotions. Anakin has obtained that power, but it's too quickly for him. And he lacks the proper control that's necessary to resist the Dark Side. Most Jedi can reach a point where it'll be a long time coming to reach the level of Yoda and Mace.

In other words, as Gillard puts it, most Jedi reach Obi-wan's level. Which is level eight. Yoda and Mace had reached level nine through their careful training and control. Anakin's too strong to be at a level nine, this soon and this young. Without any of the control of the senior Jedi Masters. Thus when they fight, Anakin's bursting with energy and nothing to control himself internally.

I like this description of Anakin's "level" of power Sinister.

While I've never been one to "rank" the Jedi, this explanation makes alot of sense and clarifies Gillard's comments.

    Thanks.:)

That is interesting, but Mace still cannot touch Yoda's abilities. Why didn't Mace push back the lightning like Yoda did. I cannot see Mace that high no matter what. YOu ahve to be able to defend, and push back in order to even out. But that is me!

Mace did try to deflect the Lightning when his hand was cut off, but without total concentration and both limbs, he could not summon up the same defense Yoda uses. Mace is good, but then he has only had 63 years versus Yoda's 877 years.

Few Jedi had the reaching effects of the Force willed to their command as Yoda. I actually wouldn't believe it as easily if any Jedi beyond maybe Yoda and Mace would sense it.

When you say Mace sensed it, are you talking about him stating he senses a plot to destroy the Jedi? I see that as different than sensing the execution of Order 66 as Jedi die across the galaxy.

Mace sensed Order 66 BEFORE it happened. That's why he says, I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi. And then when he finds out from Anakin that Palpatine is the Sith Lord they're looking for, he decides to take action, to smoke out the plot.

Obi Wan felt it, they all felt the plot that has nothing to do with what was asked

once Mace died, why did they other than Yoda not feel, that or why didn't Luca show the disturbance?

Yoda senses that Anakin has turned to the Dark Side, thus the Force is totally out of balance now. After that, Yoda senses massive deaths all at once. Yoda has been spending the last few years communicating with Qui-gon Jinn, which requires him to use both the Living and Unifying Force. In doing so, Yoda has become aware of his surroundings and can sense a massive disturbence all at once. Yoda probably did sense Mace's death, but Lucas opted not to show it after it happens.

Palpatine was exaggerating about the Jedi and Sith being similar just to further sever Anakin's loyalty to the Jedi. Basically, the Jedi and the Sith are nothing alike on the count of the following:

-The Jedi protect and serve life.

-The Sith wants to destroy life.

    -The Jedi are peacekeepers.

    -The Sith are troublemakers.

There's more but you got the idea.

Yes, but there are similarities. The actions are the same (gaining power) but the intent is different (to serve/to dominate). At other times, the intent is the same (peace) but the actions differ (protect submissively/protect dominantly).
If you know how to dance that dance, as Palpatine does, you'll be able to twist any truth in surprising and convincing ways.
