I seem to remember in a part of The Beginning on the TPM DVD where Lucas and Williams were discussing the score and Williams was holding a sheet of music titled "The Great Dual". I've searched for this online, but can't find it anywhere. Was this track ever released? Was it retitled? Does anyone know?

I believe that it's the same as Duel of the Fates. In another part of the documentary, JW is conducting DOTF, and the music sheet for it is labelled "The Great Dual" (sic).

I think that was just the duel of the fates before it was titled duel of the fates. I think the beginning was also the original title for the phantom menace? Or just a what do u call it.....thingy.

The Beginning is the name of the documentary on the DVD, and was also used as the working title for Episode I.

I believe The Great Dual is a piece of music written and recorded as part of the final duel. But the part in which it was featured was cut.
However, this piece was used in the TPM videogame. The cut part of the duel can be briefly seen at the end of a documentary on the DVD (not the 12 part series, the longer ones... can't remember which, though).

GL removed all of the score that JW composed for the end duel and replaced it with fragments of the concert suite of DOTF. One of the lost fragments was a version of DOTF called "The Great Dual". You actually probably can find it on the net, as it was used for one of the TPM video games. I have it on my other computer, but it's not hooked up right now.

I found it on this website once, and it's REALLY good. Starts off with this neato flute/woodwind up-and-down the scale really fast or something, and the rest of the piece is way cool too. :)

"The Great Duel" is a great minute or so rendition of the DOTF theme and should have been included in the film. It has an energy and sense of urgency that is lacking from the concert suite of DOTF.

And is has a really kick ass ending. :D

    Good luck finding it.

I wonder whose end the "Dual" typo was...
... or was it intentionally a pun?

I found it as some site that's an archive of cut scenes from the SW movies. Saw the link in another thread somewhere, but I don't remember it.

Can you hook a brother up with a track with better quality? I went to that site but it didn't sound too good. Thanks.

Not until today. Since there wasn't any better quality, I went ahead and ripped the music from my TPM game, edited it in SoundForge. Hope everything sounds fine. :)

    Mp3, 128 kbps, 44 100 Hz.

I ripped it off the TPM game (Not Racer or any other, just TPM. The one in which you play as Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Panaka and the Queen). I used a program we use in fanfilms to get the blaster, ship, lightsabers, whatever... sounds. In case you're interested, you can get this little software here

    :)
