I know. As far as I'm concerned, it's like Christmas come early. Only six weeks until Middle-Earth beckons again...

And, before I forget about it entirely, a very happy birthday to Peter Jackson.

Many heartfelt thanks for being brave (or crazy?) enough to take on Tolkien, and for rendering the world of Arda in such loving, painstaking detail, proving once and for all that Fantasy films could be taken seriously (and be Oscar worthy, even!).

I hope he took a sliver of time away from the frantic preparation of TDOS to celebrate amongst his family and friends, and wish him much success in the upcoming years.

    Some shiny new posters:

Note the similarities between the Mirkwood ones, and how Thorin's pose varies from his usual badass-with-a-kubrick-stare stance, in favour of a more thoughtful mien.

And a link to some scans of interviews and reports from F*** Magazine:

I appreciated the different points of view about the life as a Dwarf and the life as an Elf from the main characters' actors, which make for some very interesting food for thought. Dwarves suffering from the Little Man Syndrome? Elves as enduring mountains? Not so far-fetched, as it happens.

so excited to spend more time in middle-earth. with naked dwarf swimming gags and bilbo staring at an irrelevant broken sword after he and Hugo Weaving parade shoehorned dialogue from the book.

I thought that was the best DOS trailer yet... but that webdoc was BRILLIANT. So much larking about on set... I love it. My two favourite moments were probably Gandalf fluffing his lines and Tauriel's rude gesture towards Thranduil. Or maybe the hot tub discussion. :p

TDOS closing credits song - "I See Fire"

Ugh. Way too "boy band" style for my taste (and the melody was completely generic, I could've sworn I've heard bits and pieces in other songs). Completely inappropriate genre for Middle-earth, IMHO.

On an iPad so can't listen to it, but it can't be any worse than Annie Lennox's offering for ROTK.

Which won an Oscar for its efforts, so YMMV on what constitutes "good" music, as always.

    Oh... wow.[face_plain]

I really wanted to give that a chance. Really I did. But even the lyrics don't save it. It's completely... unoriginal. Like, the same dang phrase over and over and over again.
